Eriksen, Holtby and Lamella are all better candidates for that particular role surely. Personally, if we are going to play the up and at em Pochettino 4231, I think Dembele is the most vulnerable of all of our CM's including Carroll and Bentaleb. I think Paulinho may struggle too (in the CM2) but he did play that role quite well for Brazil before this world cup (confed cup for example), the problem then is though, he would have to be more disciplined and if you take away his freedom and ergo his goals/assists (8 last year) what do you have left ? As a disciplined double pivoting, quick ball moving CM2 we have better options including the likes of Bentaleb.

I quite liked the Sandro-Dembele pairing we played in the first half of the 12/13 season, which was in a 4231 if I'm not mistaken, although I can't remember who started behind the striker (Sig? Dempsey?). If Dembele can stay fit (a big if I know), then I'd like to think he has a future here and I think he is certainly capable of performing in a CM2.

Paulinho is an odd one, because like you said, he was quite good for Brazil in the confederations cup, so maybe he just needs a proper coach to make sure he's disciplined. It could just be that he needs a rest, because the Paulinho of summer 13 was making lung busting runs through the middle whereas the Paulinho since he rocked up at WHL certainly hasn't been doing that (Stoke game aside).

I don't really know much about Schneiderlin so I can't make an informed decision compared to our current crop of CM's but despite the talent we have in that position a lot of people seem quite pleased by the prospect of signing the guy so I'd hope that he would make a significant impact should we sign him and we'd have an immediate proponent of the Poch ethos in a key position which is a plus point.

That interview was great. I think it shows how important it would be for us to get Schneiderlin and Rodriguez, 2 players in key positions in regards to executing Pochettino's pressing. It would make our team better, quicker, rather than waiting for all our current players to learn from scratch.

In Rodriguez case, we would have to wait for him to go through rehab, get fit and then adapt to his team mates, so probably wouldn't be quicker, but I agree with your point on Schneiderlin.

Late to the party here so I'll keep my opinion blunt. I think he's a significantly more complete player than any one of our midfielders. Someone said that no one on this site would rate him higher than a fit Sandro? If we're not taking musical ability or martial arts into consideration, I would, every day of the week.

To me Schneiderlin is a poor man's Javi Martinez. He has that strange combination of intelligence, composure, skill, and aggression.

I watched him a lot in Southampton's first season back up and frankly I was shocked a bigger club didn't snap him up immediately. Really surprised he's not already an Arsenal player because they're crying out for him.

If it's realistic, we should do what it takes.

Overall, for me he's a better player than Sandro - and I love the beast. But Schneiderlin's overall game is better and that doesn't come at a cost either ie he's still very good defensively even if Sandro shades him in the pure DM traits.

Having Schneiderlin in that position just offers more. Of course they could play together but it looks like either or.

Thing is I actually am not sure Schneiderlin necessarily is a better player than Sandro. However in terms of a Pochettino team imo he is. A good player is irrelevant if he simply doesn't fit the philosophy of the team as a whole. Example Pochettino would never sign someone like Ozil or Mata for his team.

Well its not a like for like comparison really. They're both better at different things, I just think overall, and on the ball, Schneiderlin offers that bit more.

But in terms of how Poch wants us to play he'll definitely be more suitable.

It would be really helpful to have someone at the heart of the team who knows exactly how Pochettino wants us to play, I think this would be such an astute move. Not to mention the fact he counts as 'nation homegrown'.

Even besides his obvious football ability this deal is packed with plus points for Spurs, I really hope we can get this done.

I think I agree with that, but actually imo Sandro's ability on the ball is a bit underrated imo. I always thought he was a pretty decent passer of the ball and good with it at his feet. His defensive ability is remarkable but one reason we all rated him so highly was because offered even more than that.

Also Poch's midfield at Southampton last season was Schneiderlin and Wanyama - Schneiderlin and Sandro would be very similar.

True. Its just Sandro is the one linked away and ITk seems to indicate if we don't sell him a move for Schneiderlin won't happen.

I just think there has been too much smoke in both cases.

I wouldn't worry on Sunday night Caught offside had a big exclusive of khedira being unveiled on the pitch at the emirates on Monday.

A load of Gooners also think Balotelli is being unveiled this week too, they aren't as sceptical as us. Amateurs.
