I’ve been quite sick for the past two weeks and haven’t been at work. In the meanwhile as I’ve been getting better I’ve been more active here and thus also reminiscing.
There used to be two YouTube videos each about 10 mins long that showed luka’s brilliance in his final season with us but it seems the copyright bandits got to it. For now there’s this one and a few others. It only goes to show how lacking we were at this position currently and also how blessed we were to have him. I mean this lad could do everything.

It's the perfect timing and weight he puts on his passes that's so special - it gives the receiving player a big advantage as he's already on the front foot. It sounds trite, but it really is an underappreciated aspect of the game.

A completed pass can still be a bad pass if it's half a yard behind the receiving player, but Modric always seemed to get it right.

So agree. So often a player passes either to where his colleague was or exactly to him. The pass just in front of the player is so much more useful as the ball has momentum and the player has momentum. Much more dangerous for the opposition.

My favourite player to watch. Could literally sit and watch him all day. The way he just glides around the pitch and moves the ball. A phenomenal footballer and we were blessed to have him at our club. Madrid got a bloody bargain when they signed him for 30 million.

Hope you're feeling better @ClintEastwould

Cheers for the reminder of how good he was, we have seen some fine players grace us over the years.

Memories.

Fans didn’t realise how good he was until he left us. Definitely a player I would go to a match just to watch him. I said at the time he was a bigger loss than Bale because he made the whole team play rather than just dragging results from some individual brilliance...and don’t get me wrong I like Bale

Hope you’re feeling grand now. You might be interested to know that it’s either meanwhile, or in the meantime.

His book is everywhere here in Croatia, might buy it to see what he said about Tottenham, Redknapp, Levy etc.

I am in the Modric fan club.

A player of his attributes will take this club to another level. The problem is their aren’t many around. He still has 2 to 3 years at the top and i believe we should try to sign him.

The only players that I can think of in the past 28 years are pirlo, xavi, iniesta, scholes. Just look at what those players have achieved in their careers including modric. These are the types of players that control the game in midfield and are massively underappreciated.

You could add carrick and xabi alonso to the list too but they werent as good as the 5 mentioned above; however still had excellent careers.

And to think old Harry had input in his development.

This... I was always hearing people complain that he doesn't score enough, doesn't get enough assists.

He was one of our best players this century.

Just lucky I suppose he came through unscathed

To be honest I think Harry deserves more credit than that. He played Modric wide left instead of just throwing him into the middle allowing him to grow into the league, eventually finding his true roll as a deeper playmaker.

Exactly the same thing was said about Carrick too, imagine the team we could have had if ****s didn't want to leave all the time.
