Dan pouring some cold water on things. If it's sell to buy then nothing will likely happen until the last week. Maybe Hitchen was there to convince the player and discuss potential deal options with Inter but never with the intention to close a deal right now?

I hope I'm wrong of course!
I'm not going to dunk on Dan KP but after Hojbjerg we had to sell to buy and then got Doherty without a sale. Then we definitely had to sell to buy and got Reguilon and Bale without a sale. Now once again we have to sell to buy... Like at some point you drop the story because we're not following the narrative right now.

Agreed. Just seems that we're prioritising quality over urgency though which I suppose is no bad thing but the CC game against Chelsea is going to be huge.
We’re clearly not going to get a striker in by then, unfortunately. Will be interesting to see how we lineup for that.

Had a quick look at an Inter forum to see what they thought. They really aren't happy but interestingly the reaction seems quite similar to how some reacted to the idea of losing Dele - a player that's maybe fallen from his peak but shouldn't be sacrificed for a manager that might not even be there at the end of the season.

But Skriniar has been below average for 2 seasons now. Different systems, different coaches. Gone is the confidence, gone is the warrior-like attitude.

Maybe he will rediscover it, maybe he won't. But at this moment, it doesn't look like he will every justify the lofty expectations and valuation we all had.

With every player, the timing is important. Sell too early or sell too late. Another poor season by him, and we won't get 30m as well. And at this point, he doesn't seem to be worth saying no to a 50-60m number. Even if we revert to a 4-man defence tomorrow, we have De Vrij and Bastoni for it. Getting another competent CB would be cheaper than keeping Skriniar, and taking the gamble that he doesn't reach those levels again.

Skriniar joins a long list of fantastic players that Inter (out of their own stupidity) has let go and/or lost. Dickheads.

Good luck Skriniar.

sadly i think therea a huge chance that we will let him go, maybe 50m + add ons
I just hope whoever they decide to buy with those money is fucking worth it
Because they just sacrifice the most loyal player of the club

Now we have Skriniar who carried the team for 2 years and became one of the best defender in Serie A. He struggles in a new system and we are very quick to dismiss him with the same old reason "he isn't good anymore and he doesn't fit the coach's system". There are too many things I would list as an argument why Skriniar should stay but I am too lazy to write it. I am just sad that we will lose another passionate Inter player and the coach will likely leave not long after.

Similar comments on reddit, basically they don't want to sell him but they have De Vrij and Bastoni who start ahead of him.
Two years ago he was a wall. Last year he had problems to understand Conte’s way of playing in 3 in the back. He has long legs, thanks to that it is very difficult to overcome him 1vs1. He is very good with the head. Great difender, and only 25 years old.
Would Spurs paying €50m for him be a good deal for them?
Yeah for sure, he is perfect for PL
Watch Conte leave us in two years in a worse state then we were after the treble. Hopefully the board has some sense. Are we even linked with anyone? Does he plan on starting D'Ambrosio in the back 3? FML.
But the problem is, after Conte leaves next season, and we get Allegri (in all probability), we will be missing a core CB in Skriniar who would have been perfect for Allegri.
We still have de Vrij and Bastoni, both of whom performed better than Škriniar so far. I mean losing Škriniar would suck, I was just explaining in another thread why he's worth keeping, but losing him wouldn't destroy the project we have and leave us in a worse state than after the treble lol.
People were saying that he refuses to leave. idk if that came from a reputable source or people are just wishfully thinking. eitherway, 60m is just not enough when Maguire is going for 90m. but i understand the rationale here. selling him will unlock our market. Milinkovic and possibly a good leftback could come in return.
Why risk it? What if we couldn't find a player? Our season is starting in few days, we'd rather have Skriniar's services than 60M cold cash on our books.

Interesting that the want a new left back, Sess on loan could come in to play. Or even better, I'm pretty sure Conte wanted Rose at Chelsea!

It's definitely all about opportunity. Again, if JM thinks this guy is one of the best in the world, yet Inter see him as a depreciating asset in the current financial landscape, then I'm sure Levy can get on board that if you can get him for 40-50 million and he shines in the PL, there's no reason he can't be worth 70-80 in a few years time. That's my thoughts on why Levy is agreeing to all this.

i think in a region for 45million euros will be enough for inter to bite. seeing rival fans raging at us oh how are spurs spending money with a new stadium and covid etc.... well we haven't spend this much since 2013 and don't pay ridiculous wages its about time we invest

With Poch it was player X or no one

Heard from someone who has good links at Liverpool that Klopp is similar when it comes to buying players for the first team. Whereas when looking at players to fill out the squad, he is open to alternatives.

Have they fuck. A quick check on FIFA or FM, watch a 2.5 minute youtube clip and job done, player scouted.

This is SC.
Sorry @Archibald&Crooks but there's a lot more to it than that.

Does player play in top 5 leagues? If no, not good enough.

Has player been linked in media to elite European teams? No clearly shit

Has player ever posted about Arsenal on social media? Yes ... Do not sign!
