I guess Hitchen being sent out there is a bit of a power play, likely based on the idea that a compromise is easier to be achieved with him being there in person than over Zoom. That said Inter could still stick to their guns and refuse to budge on their asking price, meaning a deal could still fall through.

However if it's true that the player is interested and Conte wants him out then you'd feel there is plenty of room for compromise, I doubt they have a queue of suitors waiting to pay their price right now.

We are looking for opportunistic buys, Inter wants to get rid of him, they owe us some Eriksen money and Hitchen was apparently there. Conte could implode at any moment and new coach could play him and his price could rise to 80m again, now is the time to get him.

Can wearing a wig cause that to happen? No wonder Levy sticks with the shinehead.

This looks like serious reinforcement. And it looks likely to happen. Wow.

I'm struggling to get my head round why we - or anyone - would be paying big sums for transfers and, in the case of Bale, wages when there is no guarantee this season won't be halted again. It seems risky to me.

You can just send out someone to show the other club that you are serious.
Every chance talks over phone have not changed anything the last days so you do other negotiating strategies.

My feeling is we are far away to reach an agreement with us willing to pay around 30m and them wanting around 60m.

Probably been mentioned somewhere, but they must still owe us money from Eriksen, so that'll be factored in.

Don’t see how that makes any difference. We are planning to receive that money so it doesn’t make the potential deal any cheaper.

Gazetta saying only a offer around 50m Euro will make Inter sell Skriniar. At present, Spurs are not willing to match Inter request. If necessary, another player included (they seem to guess here).

If they get the offer close to 50m Euro, they will go in for Kante

A theory... The club knows this is Kane’s last season unless we show some serious trophy haulage and qualify for the the champions league. We are investing big now because if that happens we reap the financial rewards and keep Kane, and if we fall short we sell Kane and the investment is covered by that income. All in the context of a market that hugely favours the buyer due to the pandemic.

What works in our favour is Conte wants him sold and if he doesn't get his way he infamously throws the toys out the pram.

I do love it when we hear stories from Sky Sports like Hitchen is in Milan negotiating but the two clubs are still £25-30m apart in valuation.

Do we really think Hitchen would be over there if that is the case?! I imagine a hell of a lot of preliminary work on the transfer would need to be done and agreed before any thoughts of actually travelling to Italy to meet the representatives take place.

Negotiating isn't 'We want £60m', 'Well we only want to pay £30m'.... The 2 clubs would be far more confident and close to reaching an agreement with each other before actually sitting around the table to 'negotiate'.

IMO.

I suspect we are working on the players deal, getting his terms agreed and then back to the table with Inter.

Pretty clear the player is keen with Hitchin out there with his agent.

Perhaps negotiation tactic? More pressure on Inter to give a bit with Conte wanting him out and money needed to go towards a replacement

As I mentioned doesn't necessary to be the case. Maybe we have figured out lots of different opportunities to structure the deal that we want to present and explain. Maybe put a folder of our fringe players on the table that could be included in any deal.
Its far easier to improve stalled negotiations in person than on the phone.

It just shows there is a serious itnerest from all parties, nothing more IMO.

Absolutely. You’d only start negotiations if both parties knew there was a very good chance of agreement. And you wouldn’t send someone over to negotiate unless the proposed deal wasn’t already well outlined.

This, I work in Aircraft leasing and though obviously a different industry - the principal of moving high value assets is the same kinda and you would only travel if confident a deal could be done or was close.
