Dont know why but i still rate michael owen and will be keenly observing how he gets on now he has moved. Wish he had gone somewhere years ago and im still hoping he gets back into the England squad and bangs a few in.

What do people think, is this transfer going to be a disaster and spell the end for him or is this going to be a new defining moment in his career where he returns as a premier league goalscorer and earns fresh England caps?

I remember watching the demolition of Germany in 2001 and thinking there was no way he wouldn't break Sir Bobs goal tally but that's not going to happen. Unbelievably it's been 4 years since his last cap!

Anyway im going to go to the bookies and put a tenner on Michael Owen being in the 2014 world cup squad and scoring at the finals!!

I think he's done.

Pace was a big part of his game and he lacks that acceleration now. He is still injured on too regular a basis.

I don't think he'll score more than 5 this season and if he got into the England squd again that'd be a slap in the face to all the strikers currently playing regularly and doing well for their clubs.

I always thought that MO had a good reading of the game and his pace was just an added bonus. I still maintain he was one of the best finishers in the premier league at his best. I think the only thing that may work in his favour is the rest of Englands strike force is shit!

Him and stoke deserve each other, an arrogant 'footballer' who has done sod all for ages, with a caveman team who has quietly spent a lot of money despite purporting to be underdogs all while plumbing the depths of anti-football..watch him score a winner against us that's 10 yards offside that Foy fails to see..

Hate him. Money grabbing son of a bitch.. He plays for the money not for the game. Been riding the wave of his goal for England for faaaar too long.

Not sure why I despise him so much, I just think he's a massive prick, it's a shame he doesn't play for Arsenal :sneaky:

Done. Finished. Past it. Top level career over. Living off his name. If he gets past sn average of a dozen games a season over his contract at Stoke is it? I will be very surprised. Won't ever win another England cap. Was very good in his day, injuries made his decline ever so swift.

I didn't expect him to be so hated really! I guess I like him because he was the mainstay of the England team the last time I actually cared how we did, the '98 and 2002 world cups were the last ones I game a damn about really!

Lets resurrect another old thread, as i think we can all agree that, in the last four years, he's now completely barking.

He goes on TV and rifles through his flash cards to find cliches to describe how amazing Ferguson is, watches completely different matches while supposedly commentating on another it seems, and now it's starting to become a bit concerning - his statements are becoming even more mental as each day passes. Now he's claiming that Stones is the only English player who could walk into the Barcelona side.

The video doesn't appear to be working for me, but that's most likely my end, i just went by the splash underneath it. Honestly, Michael - get help, mate.

Michael Owen was class back in the day and he didn't just rely on his pace - do some people actually watch the games he played in and see some of the top notch finishes he produced?

Sure his pace gave him even more of an edge but he was still one of the best finishers about even without it.

Also tellingly, the ONLY decent tournament Rooney has had for England (Euro 204) guess who his strike partner was...

He may be a bit of a bellend now pundit-wise but as a player he was class, albeit did make some really stupid decisions after leaving Liverpool...

That'sfantastic. I don't know what blokes he's talking football with, but if they can't come up with three examples of John Stones ballsing it up, then they probably aren't watching football at all.

"So, they keep saying that John Stones is so prone to mistakes, but I fucking dare you to come up with even three examples!"

"I'm Stevie Wonder, I don't watch football, and you're interrupting the concert"

"Facking told ya!"

He was good for about 3 or 4 years while he had youth and pace on his side... as soon as they went he was shit. Kept up the pretense of being a footballer so he could afford his horses. Tit.
