I think it might be wise mate to put the news/Articles in the first post, and your own opinions in the comments. That the way it's been done for years, no?

Like many last season, Dawson struggled at times. But he's a tremendous club man , in a similar way to Gary Mabbutt. If Poch wants to move him on , we have to back the new man's judgement. But I hope if that's the case the club don't haggle over every last penny, and let Daws go to the club of his choice. He fought for his place when they tried to show him the door before , which I reckon shows great character ,and genuine love for the club, when others bleat and angle for a move or a bigger contract.
I'll be sad to see him go if he does leave.

If Dawson had left last time we would have been fucked and with massive question marks over kabouls fitness and Verts attitude we would be crazy to let him go right now.

passion is second to none and games like stoke away sunderland away is where we need that type of player ...HOWEVER....hes too slow, specially when on the turn.
Also with his age and I believe one year left on his contract ....it would be time to move him on 4-5mil at a guess.
Of course not without a replacement first !!

We were better defensively last season when Daws played.
Kaboul can be casual and positionally ill disciplined.
Chiriches can be brilliant, but goes to sleep and is slow.
Vertonghen is not motivated and I think would rather leave.
Daws is better than Caulker.

There is no room for sentimentality in football, but when it came down to it,
Dawson proved to AVB that that although this high line game does not suit him, it does not really suit any of our CB's that well and his other attributes more than compensated.

The one real negative for me is the number of goals he scores - he should get far more.

IMO

Keep him as back up. At least he is dependable. As rNone of our other CBs are right now.

If he is sold then we need too bye a very good replacement. Young fast and loyal too the club. Yes Dawson has given us good long 8 or 9 years but please people don't put him in the league of a world class player

Most people understand Dawson is far from being world class but you cant deny his commitment to defend. I am not his biggest fan but appreciate what Daws brings 3-4 choice I will be happy for him to stay.

As @whitesocks sort of pointed out in his very good post above, the consensus about Dawson is not borne out by the facts. Yes, he is slow to turn. No, he is not a world class central defender. But we conceded fewer goals in games when he played last season - and that's not a unique or anomalous fact about last season.

When we finally got what many of us (including me) thought would be our ideal defensive partnership - Kaboul and Vertonghen - onto the pitch this year, what we saw was two players who simply did not work well together, rather to my surprise.

In reality, Dawson and Vertonghen or Dawson and Kaboul turned out to be more reliable and effective defensive partnerships than Kaboul and Vertonghen.

As Dawson has matured, he hasn't got any quicker and he is still vulnerable to speedy attackers who play on his shoulder, but his knowledge of the game has progressively compensated for his lack of agility. He gets caught, but it doesn't very often result in a goal - at least no more often than Vertonghen slipping or Kaboul getting sent off, anyway.

No point in selling him. You wouldn't be able to replace him with someone homegrown, with a similar ability for the money we would get, let alone get someone with anything like the passion for the club. Daws isn't going complain with being back up and is a proper club man, a captain, which is invaluable.

The one that's published this article on SC has not put his own views forward.

Though, I think SC should rather make an own article out of these quotes, rather than giving credit to some opionated wannabe journalist blogwriter as in this instance.

If he's been here 9.5 years - I can imagine he will see out the one year remaining just to get a testimonial. Especially after just having kings.

He'll always get games.

Not good enough to be first choice (imo) but have no problem keeping him as back up.

I will reserve my opinion as to whether Daws can play with a high line until I see him play that role with the whole team doing its bit.
The problem has been players in front allowing time for the opposition to pick that pass that obviously leaves Dawson vulnerable. But if as a team we can all press and pressure the opposition from the front, I think Dawson would cope fine, and I actually have more confidence with him along side Verts than I do with vlad or Kaboom. But lets see what happens

Ive no problem with him as long as he's not expecting to be 1st choice every game. Nothing wrong with have decent squad players who love, and play their heart out for the club every time. Thats what a squad is about ... I dont think its a good idea to make him captain though. Give it to Lloris

I love his passion and commitment, but as many of you have pointed out, he was very slow this season and is only going to get even slower. We'll miss him, but I think it's time for him to leave. Bring Caulker back, I'd love to see him heading in Eriksen's corners. He scored what, 5 or 6 goals this year? The fact that Kaboul and Vertonghen didn't perform particularly well together this year was, in my opinion, partly because they didn't have enough time together to form a good partnership, partly because they're both more forward-minded than Daws (it wasn't always clear, who'd cover for whom) and partly because our management was unable to coach our defenders well enough. Also the fact that neither of our regular full-backs had a good season. Especially Rose's defending was horrendous pretty often. And when the fullbacks don't do their jobs, central defenders are forced to drift wider and leave gaps in the middle.
