Redknapp and AVB both wrote off Daws before changing their minds about him and making him a lynchpin of the team. Sometimes you see a player differently when you work with him rather than watching him from the stands. If Daws decides to stay and fight for his place he will be back in the team by Christmas. If he goes I think we will regret it.

I think this has as much to do with getting a few quid for Dawson while we still can. He is not getting younger or faster, so now is the time to sell and use the money to reinvest in the club.

...awesome! we'll be full of mercenaries next year, none of whom will fancy the cold mid-week trips up north in December. They'll all be 'injured' after 10 games and we'll be relying on our 2nd - 3rd string. When are we ever going to learn!

That, my friend, is modern day football.

Loyal Spurs player who's just not going to make it under Poch and the system he wants to play. Wish him well but the game has moved on and fresh blood is needed in our CB pairing.

Obviously a top bloke but couldn't make the extended World Cup squad. Rated below Jones and Smalling. What more do you need to know? And look who is likely to be in for him! Hull, QPR etc.

I can't see Daws staying again to prove his worth. He must feel a bit hurt by it all surely?! His pride must come into play at some point, and he'll move onto to a club that rate him. He's always been too slow to be a top central defender in my books, but no one can question his attitude or commitment. Daws was our most reliable central defender last season, so I hope we find a replacement, cause Kabaul is a bit crocked.

Nothing against Daws. Think his loyalty was never in question. But his leadership was. Personally never felt he was captain material. Ledleys shoes have yet to be filled and it shows. I wish Daws all the best and hope he'll go somewhere he's appreciated. As for whos going to be the next captain. My votes for Hugo (assuming he stays)

I think Poch has looked at the players and decided he doesn't want older players filling squad roles. I'm putting 2 and 2 together here and thinking Veljkovic's recent interview with the OS means he's likely to play a bigger role behind Kaboul, Vertonghen, Chiriches and possibly Lovren.

Dawson will absolutely dominate for a lower half team, where he can play in a narrow and deep lying defence and wont be isolated in one on ones. He'll have some good seasons left, and should be given a roaring reception at the Lane.

Because he's world class. Our only player that is at the moment.

Not sure that makes him captain material. He seems quite shy, dunno maybe ive got that wrong. Just the impression I get.

I'm glad Dawson rejected the chance to move when AVB accepted a bid for him and I think it reflected well on AVB to change his mind and pick him on many occasions.

As others have said, Dawson gets the Huddlestone treatment on here regarding his movement and speed, but his contribution is often much more integral to our robustness and organization than other more-lauded defenders. And as with HUddlestone on occasion last season, I think we'll end up watching a dominant display of Dawson's sometime during the season and wonder why our players aren't able to produce the same.

But, for once, I'd like to have accountability at Spurs and for Pochettino to be given full control over squad personnel (within our budgetary constraints). If he's decided it's the end of the line for Dawson at Spurs, then fair enough, and let's treat the man well on his departure.

If Dawson outlasts Pochettino at Spurs, as he has done a few other managers, it'll probably not be a good thing.

I'm not sure a player's ability is the deciding factor in whether he will make a good captain.

I think his influence over his team mates, his courage and determination are far more pertinent qualities.

If he's not good enough technically he's not going to make the team anyway so it's obviously going to be someone from the first 11
