It’s still a scattergun approach. ITK’s have linked us 2 confirmed right backs whereas Herc’s has referred to another Portuguese player which a lot of us think it’s a previously linked via ITK Barca right back. The 3 players implies planning but if you look at it:

- one is now EPL proven
- one has only played circa 20 1st team games in the championship and they’re split across both left and right back
- one is an established international playing albeit as a squad player for one of the best teams in the world

It’s one extreme to another.

Not sure how this is in anyway a scattergun approach. It’s very clear we want to sign a young homegrown right back. We’ve also been scouting MA for at least two years now. Couple this with all the ITK about the other young homegrown players we are interested in and there is obviously a clear desire to return to our previous (successful) strategy of adding young British talent to our squad on a regular basis.

Adding Semedo into the mix as criticism is very creative of you, because we’ve had zero confirmation that this is the Portuguese player ITK are referring to, and at the end of the day he’s still a right back, which again is obviously an area we have targeted for improvement.

It’s hardly bloody scattergun.

Ally Gold reporting AC Milan are bidding on Aurier. I’d gladly swap these two or have a full clear out of our RBs and bring in Aarons and Ferguson let them duke it out.

I can't even fathom the fact we are at this point but here we are. Thanks Levy. We should absolutely not sell Serge under any circumstances this window. We cannot be left with zero RB's and scramble to sign 2 youth RB's to fill that place midseason.

Don’t worry we will just throw Sissoko out there in a wheelchair.

Seriously.
If Mourinho is going to persist in his assymetric back three (and his comments at the presser this morning strongly suggest that's what he wants his system to be) with a high wing-back / defensive winger, I feel like I'm the only one who thinks:
1. Aurier has been improving incrementally in that role. His game against Pool wasn't terrible, had several moments of spark and a relatively smaller number of boneheaded lapses than usual.
2. I don't know anything about Ferguson other than the fact that his contract is up and I don't think a lot of people in this thread do either. Anyone suggesting an Aurier-Ferguson swap is an improvement in this assymetric setup Mou keeps rolling with is not thinking clear-headed.
3. Not convinced Aarons is a 40 million pound player.
Personally I would be glad to continue to have Aurier in the squad at least through the summer and until a real and proven option emerges like Atal. I just wish that Mou would rotate toward a left-assymetric setup with Sessegnon in the defensive winger role to give Aurier rotation every few games.

I’d be shocked if either of those guys couldn’t be as good as Serge.

I don’t know. If someone is dumb enough to offer us a decent fee for Serge we absolutely should move him on. And immediately upon receiving the offer. And we should bite their hand off to get the $.

We can patch together RB for the rest of the season.

If nothing else, I’d love it because it will give them no option but to fix it. We won’t be able to go another season saying - we can postpone, at least we can play Serge.

Hmmm, if we could get our money back for Aurier. I'd take the money and run. Play Tanganga, Foyth, Lucas, anyone from the academy, whoever the fuck at RB. Getting that for Aurier is a chance you might not get again.

Serge is also on 70k a week. Doubt Aarons and Ferguson/Bogle/Spence/etc. would make that combined.

If lo celso could finish a happy meal, aurier would have yet another assist. Aurier wasnt the worst against pool, if we need to buy i would be happy to keep aurier if we were gonna spend big on a quality dm

Also, I think the Dragon ITK about the mid-20s Portuguese international Mendes client is probably about Semedo, but could it possibly be Cancelo? Can't imagine he's loving playing sparingly on a 3rd place City team, would be obvious first choice here.

I wondered this too, but couldn't see past how much he would cost tbh

I'd sell Aurier in a heartbeat.

Having watched brainfart after brainfart live in front of my eyes, I’m definitely sliding that way too.

Moaning at everyone at the weekend - which prompted a fair few “why don’t you fuck off Aurier you prick” type comments from the Park Lane.

Not flavour of the month that’s for sure!

If Aurier could be redeemed that's one thing, but the ITK has been that he's also a headcase which, I'm translating to mean he's a bit of a wayward character.

Be good if we could get back to some sort of squad harmony and I think if we had trouble moving on Serge before, perhaps we should be biting peoples' hands off if they offer anything useful for him - one less problem for the summer.

Plus, we have Timothy Eyoma in an emergency - got some minutes there in pre-season IIRC.

The focus then should be bringing in someone like Semedo. And working on Aarons for summer.

Swap Aurier and cash for Piatek.

Sign Semedo and Ferguson/Bogle.

Done!

Norwich want £45m for him this window according to our correspondent at the Athletic so we won’t pay that for him.
