Has a manager ever gone back to a club for a second stint and done better than the first time he was there?

Genuine Q.

FWIW, i'd have him back, purely as I think he's the perfect fit for the current squad.
David Moyes at West Ham

Maybe its just wishful thinking on my part - but, I wonder if some of the inaction by Spurs board is related to Poch.

Even if we thought he was amenable to returning - he can't leave at this precise moment - US is in the middle of an intentional break and team training camp, they just played Venezuela, and play Costa Rica on Wednesday.

At that point, there would be a natural break, if Poch was willing to leave and come back to Spurs.

Poch seems like an honourable guy so i cant see him ditching the US job anytime soon.

Moyes at West Ham? Won a trophy in his second stint.

NOT SAYING it has to be poch but i quite like the idea of the next poch revolution coming.

Ange sacked and the new manager has a talisman in Kulu (Kane), a rising once-in-a-generation in Moore (Dele), and the Belgian mafia at the back (Romero/VdV). Spence, the loanee nobody wanted is now Rose, and the whole place has a sense of love.

He took us to the next level. We were spoilt for CL footy.
I think we had hoped that Ange would be bringing some of that magic with him too.

He loves Spurs, he would walk over broken glass to come back here.

We have the right mix of players again that he can mould into a team.

I'm still backing Ange, but if we were to sack him Poch is the smart choice.

He has worked with Levy before, knows how to build a team of young players and plays the right brand of football.

He also comes with far more experience and a couple of trophies to his name.

He did miracles even when we didn't have a home ground. He made WHL a fortress and saw us unbeaten at home in our last season there.

We thought we could do better and we just needed a world class manager to get us over the line. It didn't work. We needed a refresh, Poch needed a break.

The stage has been set... if Ange's does go, it's time to bring Poch home.

Stop it lads.

I do find it a bit rich how so many on here wanted rid of him and were all stoked for Jose, while a small minority of us were slandered for saying that he deserved the opportunity to build another team; And now a great many of those very same are now saying they'd have him back in a heartbeat.

Tough. You got what you wanted and we sacked him. Those times are done and they're not coming back.

I would probably always take him back for another hit, but only after we have finished with this experiment that I don't think is at its end. And neither is his own.

I never wanted him to go but I don't know what the way out of the situation that we got into would have been. The weird press conferences and going on about fucking off after the CL final. He was burned out, spent, and needed a break from the club, and there is no way to just do that in this industry. If there was a way for him to take a year sabbatical and then we go again, great, but he wasn't a project manager for a tech company running a dating app. It's football.

In eighteen months he leads out the US on home soil during a WC, who in their right mind would sacrifice that to go and work with Levy again having not been backed previously?
Makes absolutely no sense to me.

I didn't want rid necessarily, I foresaw him staying for a long time.

But it was clear through Levy's operations that Poch was checked out mentally. The summer 2019 window was too little too late. Poch knew it wasn't going to get better but probably stayed in hope.

It's the only reason I thought he needed to go. For us and his sake.

Even after the CL final and that summer window, I never dreamt he'd be gone.

Poch pulling a Dier during the US match and running off to use the bathroom. If that isn’t the biggest “come get me” ever then I don’t know what is.
