as a rotation option, probably less bothered by the defensive stats as the games he will be playing (cup games, europa, lower half) it’s games where we’ll be expected to have more of the ball and his ball playing ability will be more important. As a free transfer getting him in and allowing us to allocate more of our budget towards a right winger or midfielder is good business imo

Considering our injuries last season and competiting on four fronts, must say it would be nice to go into next season with a bench consisting of Hermoso, Dragusin, Gray, Sarr, Bergvall, Kulusevski, Johnson, Richarlison etc. We've definitely added depth, just need a RW to take the first eleven to another level.

A fantastic progressive passer and loves a switch. Trained under Simeone so he brings some gamesmanship / experience too. I'm surprised it took us this long to be linked with him. Will command a big wage / sign on fee, but he'd be worth the money imo.

I can see a lot of sense in this move. I would be curious what contract length it would end up being if it happens. One reason I didn't love the idea of e.g., Lloyd Kelly is he was seeking a long contract (signed for 5 years I think). With Dorrington, Phillips, and Vuscovic all highly rated, I didn't see the point of someone like Kelly on a long contract blocking off a pathway. A senior CB like Hermoso on a 3-year deal (or maybe 4), would be a great way to transition to one of the young players hopefully stepping up in the next few years while getting a senior player and leader who can contribute immediately.

This move does make a lot of sense. Don’t get me wrong I’d have loved to see us go for a like for like Udogie backup in Locko or Dorgu. But I imagine this move frees up funds for the rest of this window and helps cover both LCB and LB in the short term before hopefully one of our young CB’s breakthrough.

Would be curious to see if this allows Davies to move on so he can get regular first team football. Although that seems tricky due to the HG situation and Ange seems to love him.

Last thing to add on this one. We’ve lost a few leaders lately and experienced pro’s so perhaps Ange feels we need another experienced head in the squad

When Romero plays he dictates a lot of out playing out from the back, Dragusin and VDV don’t have that same passing ability. Seems bringing in someone with strong a passing game like Hermoso makes a lot of sense for those rotational games where Dragisin steps in for Romero.

Just watched a few videos of this guy from recent seasons and I like him. He looks and acts more like a lb. He’s a great passer for a defender and he willingly jumps into the passing lanes to pick off passes when his club are pressing. He’d be a great pick up.

After a few years where we seemed competent with an actual plan, we are back to throwing darts on a board regardless of fit. Lange continues to shower himself with glory.

Amazing how we just completely failed to get such a crucial appointment right again. Could have kept Gabbanini who orchestrated our best window in a while. Could have gotten Steiden. Nope, a guy Villa recruited over & demoted a few levels was the guy for us.
Thank God you don't do job appraisals for a living.

This is an absolute yes for me, if possible to do, especially as a free.

As much as Davies is a complete pro and seems a great guy to have around, I wouldn't trust him long term covering Udogie or Mickey. And with their history, we definitely need insurance.

Isn't a world beating signing, but doesn't need to be. Great depth and apparently a good leader.

i don't believe his wages would be too restrictive for us, but others may be able to comment on that

I am just not sure he would come to us as a depth option, but we will see.

Seems similar to Davies, but a better passer. He would probably enjoy hanging with Romero and Porro.
