Can’t see him getting anywhere near the side. Also don’t think he would deal with being a back up. Would be madness to go for him

Oh I like him a lot, but there is obviously a sense that we could do better as well imo.

KWP makes zero sense now club trained or not. Waste of wages and transfer fee surely. At least Edwards offers us some abilities that we are lacking in the attacking areas.

For sure we could make a bigger upgrade on Gil and Solomon.

But he's still an upgrade which adds important variety.

An Edwards profile with more aggression, consistency, and stamina is a £100m player imo.

So the question is what value / usefulness do we place on the things he CAN do?

I'd be reasonably positive about it.

Though retrospectively lamenting not going for Summerville as the second winger instead of Werner.

We gambled everything on getting Neto and lost.

We miss Paratici's skill for playing the market.

To be fair to Fab, who I have a lot of time for given who he brought in and out, we got also rinsed by Mendes with him ostensibly at the helm also for Luis Diaz. Maybe there are some people we just as a club need to avoid entirely, though if it's the manager that wants us to try then I can understand us at least trying.

Not sure we have gambled everything on Neto and lost as you say in that the alternatives are still as available as they ever were given the drought of moves thus far but I'm not sure Summerville coming in as a starter is the kind of move people were looking at as the missing piece to be honest. He is a year younger than a Brennan Johnson that had one game shy of 1/2 ga last season that we'd be looking for him to improve upon.

The football world wants to move too fast these days imo. You sign a player and if they don't obliterate it day one then you're looking at them for the bench the following season which is absolute madness imo when you're talking about 22/23 year old players.

Look at how much time we gave Sess!

Everyone, there is no link to us signing Edwards however there is a link to Juventus enquiring about him. Relevant because we get a percentage but potentially more relevant as we have been interested in 2 of their players.

Sorry for the unsubstantiated bump, and/or if I’m going over old ground but I was watching a highlights reel of him last night and going off off that, wondered why we haven’t stepped up our interest in him. Club trained, quick, likes to take on his man, left footed, plays off the right, homegrown, plus we have a buy back percentage. He looks, albeit on face value, perfect for what we need to add to our attack.

I know highlight reels don’t give you anywhere near the bigger picture, so could someone fill me in as to why we wouldn’t be interested please. Does he still have an attitude problem? Does he not work hard enough off the ball? Do we think he’s not physically strong enough for the PL? Maybe @Ghost Hardware could help me out here.

Plus, do we still think Juventus are interested in him this window?

PS - if YouTube videos aren’t allowed, please let me know and I’ll delete them. Thanks!

he's using his right boot a lot more than I recall! That's a good sign. He'd cause some havoc for the bus parkers.

I think we are trying to get either young raw talent like odobert or very top level performers like neto. Marcus was definitely considered, but probably falls between those two camps.

True, but up to now we’ve failed to land a top level player for that position and Edwards is still only 25. Totally understand what you’re saying though.

Work rate would certainly be part of it. I think the winger to get from that league would have been Conceição who is quite similar in profile to Edwards but has significantly larger potential which is why Juve went for him over Edwards.

We don't need to bring players in just for the sake of doing so.
Definitely. Sounds like his work rate, potentially his attitude as well - which is all tied together of course - is what is putting us off. At 25, it doesn’t look like we see any potential for growth/maturity, potentially due to that either.

I think his fee would be about £9m when considering his contract situation and the percentage, but we sure as hell don’t want a squad place taken up, or more importantly ‘locked in’ on a lengthy contract with a bad egg that we’d be stuck with, due a reputation for not being willing enough to show the right attitude.

I think perhaps his stats are slightly misrepresentative due to some poor finishing, but that’s all academic in the grand scheme of things.

Thanks for the useful insights folks - sorry to bump this thread!

If Ange really wanted Edward's surely we would have moved on him long ago as he seems to have been available for ages , my guess he is not wanted by Ange.

I don't think we are in for him, but it could just mean he was down the list, rather than not wanted completely, and other options were fully explored first - again though, don't personally think he is.
