this article is utter garbage with no verified quotes , probably written by a deluded gooner journo still bitter that Ade left the scum for a bigger club (city not us lol)
the press have been so harsh on spurs since AVB replaced harry , they are trying to get us fans to turn first on our manager and now some of our players , its not going to work , we can all see through these BS articles.

I'd drop him yes, or rotate at least. Defoe has scored in 4 of 11 games. Hardly prolific. we need a muh more physical presence up front to link with and get the best from Dempsey, Sigurdsson, Bale and Lennon IMHO.
Adebayor offers that.
I want to see us just go out with out strongest 11, which would include both Lloris and Adebayor. I cant believe we find ourselves in a position already where two of our big summer signings, Lloris and Ade, are both already questionning their longterm futures at the club. Those two on the bench at the expense of Friedel and Defoe? Hilarious really.

I can't believe that you believe it!

I understand that Paul Jiggins and Rob Beasley - celebrated Sun journalists - are collaborating on a story about Ade and Hugo leaving Spurs and starting their own Premier League team. Apparently they intend to recruit other team members from a dressing room in turmoil, who wish to escape the frequent arguments and fist-fights. They are reported to have already pencilled in the noted Harry Redknapp as manager of the new team - which will be based at London's Olympic Stadium. Jiggins and Beasley further claim that a source close to Richard Scudamore says that he has secretly given the go-ahead for the new team to replace Spurs in the Premier League.

The above can be absolutely believed, as it is from an impeccable Sun source (a mate of mine who once wiped his arse on a copy of the paper).

Is he fit?

Would you drop Defoe with the goals he is scoring?

Not easy decisions, Ade didn't have a pre-season, needs to take his chance. Simple.

Exactly, you can't drop a striker that has scored 5 goals in 8 PL games so far this season that easily.

Also with Ade's lack of fitness and pre-season training he can't expect to waltz straight into the team.

The press really do seem to be on our case about Ade and Lloris and yet it is clear to see that AVB is brining both those two players into the team in probably the best way possible.

Cocks.

AFAIAC Freund's not doing his job properly.

He was clearly bought in to injure players the manager wanted out of the team sooner rather than later.
And his failure to injure Defoe and Friedel has now cost us.

I can see crisis meetings with DL/Freund/AVB. (with lots of shouts of "arbeit" heard)

I'm sure AVB wants to be seen to give the players already used (and done fairly well) a fair shot rather than a token, "ok, thanks Jermain/Brad but now Ade/Hugo are fit so your time is up"

It's about time more clubs worked together and took certain elements of the press to court, much like Frankie Boyle recently did. As far as I am aware the laws covering protection of sources no longer apply so they should be more careful when making things up.

article in the Times today saying he doesn't want to play on Thursday as that will stop him playing Sunday. If it was the Sun it laugh it off but the Times is a bit more respectible.

If they said he cant be arsed flying out to Slovenia, then I'd respect a bit more.

Wouldn't be that surprised if he had another 'knock' though that meant he could lounge around until friday

Defoe is undroppable at the moment.
AVB has his way of playing and that doesn't tend to feature playing 2 up top. If Ade wants to sulk about it I'd tell him to jog on. It's not like he's contributed much when he's come on as a sub either.

Of course, should Ade break into the side in the coming 6 weeks, I bet he still goes to the African Cup of Nations with Togo in January and will then expect to waltz back into our line-up afterwards.

AVB did say that two upfront was a very strong tactic for us, or something akin to that, so I wouldn't be surprised to see it happen, and against weak teams especially at home, it has to happen

He made his bed by skipping pre season to go on holiday and dragging every last penny out of City instead of concentrating of having a successful season with us. Much better suited to our system than Defoe but if he wants to kick up a fuss he can fuck off, needs to earn his place in the team like everyone else, no wonder he's got the reputation he has

i absolutely agree. i can certainly see why there is support for defoe: he is scoring goals. but while there is no way to prove my theory, i suspect our team as a whole would be scoring more goals if ade was getting defoe's time on the pitch. defoe is playing well according to his standards in that he is scoring. he has a striker's instinct, and there is certainly merit in that. the trouble is, this also means he is only looking to score himself. he rarely looks to pass. when he does pass, it is usually because a ball has been played wide and he has no sight of the goal, and can only pass. 9.7 times out of 10, he is looking to shoot. this is part and parcel of the striker's instinct. there was a telling moment in the first half saturday when defoe found himself just outside of the penalty area with his back to the goal. caulker and lennon were in acres of space, both gesticulating for the ball. rather than passing to one of two open team-mates who had a clearer path to score, defoe turns and shoots. i readily admit it took skill for him to even get a shot on goal. but cech easily gathered, as there was very little pace on the ball. simply laying off for caulker or lennon would have been his better option. and this sort of thing happens all of the time.

adebayor, on the other hand, has great awareness of his team-mates. he operates like a midfielder in the body and position of a striker. he gets players involved. he maintains possession. many have mentioned that sigurðsson looks so much better when adebayor is on the pitch. the same could be said of any of our players when playing with adebayor, even defoe. you can see in his body language that he is growing frustrated. he needs to play regularly.

defoe is scoring goals at an impressive rate as of late. but he is so frustrating. his goal on saturday was met with initial jubilation. obviously, we went ahead, and it was an impressive goal to boot. but my very next thought was, 'that's bought him at least one more start'.

if he must start, he should be pushed out a bit wider and paired with adebayor. drop either dempsey or sigurðsson because they are not nearly as useful if they are playing with a lone, selfish striker.

it will be interesting to see how avb continues to play this. i fully trust him. but i also think adebayor and lloris are superior to the players ahead of them in the pecking order. the longer the situation drags, the more perplexing it will become.
