Thought this could do with its own thread

Mancini back-peddaling now

It's dawned on him that Citeh are no longer in the driving seat and that his position will not be that secure if they don't get 4th and if a big name is available in the summer....I love the bit where he's saying he needs pre-season. He's correct but it says a lot that he's resorting to pointing it out

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini says he should not be seen as a failure if his team fail to finish fourth and seal Champions League qualification.
Mancini's side are currently sixth in the Premier League, one point off Tottenham in fourth with three games left to play this season.
The Italian was brought in to secure a Champions League spot and had until now been bullish about achieving that aim.

But he said on Friday: "I don't think I will have failed [if we finish fifth]."
City have spent over £100m this season in their pursuit of Champions League football and there is huge pressure on Mancini to deliver.

"We want to finish fourth and that is what we are working for," said Mancini.

"But we have improved a lot in the last five months and we must improve more if we want to be a good team. I think the owners can see that."
Mancini arrived at City in December, taking over from Mark Hughes who had lost the faith of the club's owners in their quest for a Champions League berth.

He has at least given City a chance of achieving that aim, but failure to do so could see Mancini following Hughes out of the exit door at Eastlands.

Mancini's side have games against fellow Champions League chasers Aston Villa and Tottenham as well as a trip to West Ham on the last day of the season.

The former Inter Milan boss accepts he is not in charge of his own destiny but he does expect to be at the club next term and would benefit from having a full season at City.

"When you work with a team in pre-season it is easier to do your job," he said.

"I imagine I will still be Manchester City manager. I hope so. I have a contract. I don't decide but I think I will be."

Quite impressive that the BBC know what he is gonna say tomorrow, unless he said it last Friday.

It will be perfect if he does not get 4th and gets fired.

That means more new players, more new managers/coaches and more time to adjust and less chance of them being a threat to our TITLE challenge.

Yes I said title.

Hence, all the more reason for Spurs to keep hold the best players i.e Modric and Bale.

Look what happened to Spurs when they changed their personal and Manager, they were fighting relegation! Hopefully that is where City are after 8 games into next season.

Has he done anything of real note since 'Moon River'?

I think not.

And Nicola Berti and David Ginola both had better hair.

I'm not a racist my any stretch of the imagination (i'm an asian and everything) but his English is absolutely awful. Watching interviews with him is like having my pubes tweased.

Agree with the 'mind games' post
But, it's good that the git is back-tracking! Both he and Benitez have been, what I think is, disrespectful towards Tottenham. Back in December Benitez suggested anything but Liverpool finishing in the top four was laughable. And just a couple weeks back Manci-boy said 'we will finish fourth'... arse!
To give Harry - and to a lesser extent O'neil - his due; he's never been dismissive to the other clubs in this battle, not even Villa at times when it looked like they were way off the pace.

I see no reason why we cannot challenge... chelsea are 15 points ahead? that is like 4 games....off the top of my head, the sunderland game, wolves and some others would have helped alot.

he's only been there 1/2 a season. he's got a good argument for his defense.

That's not quite correct. He had half a season as a player at Leicester in the early 2000's. Though having to share a dressing room with Robbie Savage ain't going to improve his English.

His interviews are pointless, as his limited command of English allows him to say sweet FA and what he does say is bollocks and irrelevant

I'm at a loss to understand it, but what is it about Mancini that makes me grind my teeth?

I don't have any problems with Mancini, i've plenty of problems with city getting in a new keeper, but I don't blame him for that.

whether he's got City nearer to 4th than Hughes would have done I'm not sure, but I think he is preferable to listen to than his predecessor
