To be fair to Palace, if someone came in trying to sign arguably one of our best two players who we didn't want to sell, we'd either dismiss it entirely or ask for way above market value before even considering it. So I don't blame them asking for sixty mill, certainly not when United may well even cough it up. While I do think we might push the boat out moreso than we have in the past, perhaps even breaking our transfer record two or three times in the process, I can't see this one happening at the suggested prices. A shame as the lad would have been ideal. Fortunately, there are a fair few decent right backs doing the rounds, so it isn't a massive issue.

I really want him here. Think he’s perfect for us. Yes he’ll be expensive but that could be our RB position sorted for the next 10 years.

Also the way the transfer fees are going, if he doesn’t work out, we would absolutely be able to get our money back.

I’m not convinced, especially for the amount that’s getting talked about. I appreciate palace aren’t a team on the front foot most of the time but he hasn’t shown anything going forwards and to me looks a little awkward on the ball. I know he doesn’t get beat one on one too much at the moment but a lot of it looks last ditch too me. When we played them towards the end of the season he got rave reviews on here but to me we attacked a lot down his side and he looked out of position a lot of the time, it was only his telescopic legs and pace that got him out of trouble a few times. No doubt he’s got a lot of attributes to work with but that amount could be put to better use imo.

If Utd is after him, I am sure we will be too. And where will he want to go? The only thing United can offer at the moment is wages. They are a FAR bigger club than us, yes but there also in a dilapidated state with a manager whose days have got to be very numbered unless they get off to a hot start.
I agree with all of that - I just have this feeling he's the one who'll slip through our fingers. Don't get me wrong, would love to have him - I just don't see it. Not based on any info, just a feeling...

AWB is an outstanding defender BUT he’s not known for his attacking prowess which is something we need as we’ve been reliant on our full/wing backs for years or provide the width. For £60m I want a full back who can both defend and attack... not someone who doesn’t fill the 2 attributes we require.

Great player but really do feel there will be value elsewhere in europe and the difference in quality will be marginal.

That's fair enough.

There's an open question as to whether his relative lack of attacking production is down to ability or to the tactical role he has been given at Palace. Watching his highlights he looks a capable dribbler with a decent low cross, so I wouldn't be surprised if he proved to be a much more effective attacking threat at a top six club where he wouldn't be as constrained as he is in Palace's relatively conservative setup.

That being said I can't see us spending the money Palace will demand for him given how much of our funds appear to be going toward shoring up the central midfield. Atal for £35-40m probably makes a lot more sense for us than AWB for £55-60m. We'll need that extra £20m to go elsewhere.

Completely agree that there is value in Europe and beyond. However we do need homegrown players. For that reason and his ability, I prefer this lad.

Excluding Janssen and Nkoudou who are long gone, we currently have 1 overseas slot available in the CL and I think 3 in the league. It isn't as much of a concern right now. We could maybe do with a couple of homegrown players, but cant imagine we will go anywhere near the expensive ones.

Completely agree. Even beyond the current availability of slots, when you look at the players who are likely to leave they skew overwhelmingly toward non-HG.

Vorm and Llorente are out of contract. Eriksen and Alderweireld seem very likely to leave. I wouldn't be surprised to see any of Aurier, Wanyama, Dier or Lamela leave either. Of the HG players in the squad only Trippier seems nailed on to leave, with Rose a possibility as well. We should have significantly more breathing space with non-HG slots than we have had over the past few seasons, so I doubt it will affect incoming transfers very much.

I just don’t think there is any chance this will happen. I’m sure we probably have some interest but the fact Palace’s chairman hates us, doesn’t want to sell, and even if AWB rocked the boat would probably ask a stupid price for a RB. Means there is zero to no chance of this happening.

Parish when talking about levy is always gushing with praise.

Funny, I watched his highlight videos and I agree that he had to go to ground for a lot of his challenges and that always looks a bit last ditch. I also think there are questions about his ability going forward.
I did feel that he has good feet, and I thought, he's got potential to play CM.

He attacks well when he has the chance to. But more than that, he's a developing player who we can work on their game.

For what its worth, he got 3 assists last season, same as Rose and tripps. He also makes 1.7 dribbles a game, which is more than any player in our team (interestingly Foyth is first for us, followed by Son, KWP, Moura, Kane and Rose)

I haven't seen much of him, but what I have seen doesn't match his valuation. The attacking part of his game is lacking as far as I can tell.

I'd rather a natural attacker lacking defensively, than a defender without attacking technique.

Teaching defending is easier than teaching attacking talent.

As said above, you're paying 60+mill for a fullback they should be the complete package.

£60m lol. Would make him the 3rd most expensive defender in history.
