I did forget and sounds like I'm moaning but since when was jose on insta? I don't think that he should be on that thing or the very least to use it other than person stuff... Not many managers I'm aware do this...
Jose is a media/marketing entity all in his own. His social media presence will be mostly about his own endorsement commitments. You're right in that there isn't another manager in the game that has this level of proflie.

I dont mind if he has insta but the playing stuff ie. the photo of him on the coach and saying what he said - I dont think it is the best thing to do.

I dont mind that he has insta because like you know, he is his own entity - I mean a huge global presence. Just puts you into a difficult situation at times I think.

Don't disagree.

I had hoped for subs at half time, but 4 was OTT and was akin to a teenager tantrum. He could easily have made 2 which would have put the rest of the team on notice and given it 10 minutes to see if there was a response. I don't think anybody last night from the coaching staff to the players came out with any credit last night.

One thing I like about Mourinho that maybe some of you may not is that he is willing to shred the players out in the open and gives them nowhere to hide.

As much as that may be a demotivator to some, to the true winners it's a refreshing kick up the arse and a reminder that you can never take your foot off the gas if you want to be the best because that's what it takes, 110% effort each and every game.
I disagree. I don't think it leads to anywhere good re team spirit in the end. Might work ok in the short term with a couple of players, but keep that message in house. Think his siege mentality in his Chelsea days worked fine re confronting the media because that was more about protecting his team as a group.

This stuff is more about Jose defending himself and sometimes deflecting from criticism re his own management of the players. All coaches get that line of questioning from the media...Pep, Klopp etc., and it just creates unnecessary resentment and division to call players out in public however it's done.

What's all the hand wringing about here?

I see nothing contentious about what he's put in his Instagram, bad performances DO deserve bad results on the whole, he's expressed his sadness, not anger, and he's stated that they'll be training at 11am.

He hasn't called out a single player, not thrown a tantrum ... It's a nothing post really.

The lengths some people will go to to find criticism is astounding at times.

Fair enough observation but its just a difference of opinion.

Winning trophies is hard, you cannot have a soft approach to any aspect of it. A private tea party to discuss the shit effort we saw last night wouldn't change a thing, and I think this soft approach is the reason why we can't cultivate a winning culture within the team. Sometimes Jose will be an absolute bastard, and it will get the results from the players who take it to mind and improve.

Those that don't sadly won't have what it takes to win under him, and maybe its better for us all if they move to clubs with a softer approach and if they find success there then good for them. I highly doubt it though. There is no place for soft emotions on the football pitch, all winning teams are ruthless.

The only thing I can agree with is doing so in public, but that doesn't really bother me either. If I was naughty when I was a kid, I would get a hiding there and then regardless of whether it was in a shop or at home. He didn't really hang them out to dry either, he just said that this is why they don't make the starting 11 and it just proved him right once again. If you get given a chance in such a strong squad, you take it with both hands every single time. It worked for GLC. It worked for Ndombele. It can work for whoever has an open enough mind to understand why Jose does the things he does.

We need to stop making excuses for our players because we have to protect their "feelings". There is no room for complacency if we want to make it to the top.

I have no problems with the subs at half time.

Dele and Bergwijn were very disappointing, Lo Celso clearly off the pace.

As for Vinicius, I think it was pretty clear at half time that we were going to need Kane at some point and that Bale was going to be given 60 minutes but no more as he still needs to regain match fitness. Since Bale can adopt the striker role for 15 minutes it made sense to get Son on for Vinicius.

Well if that is because of my post... Making a remark isn't always criticism but a point worthy to make.

he screwed up today. didnt need. wholesale changes. but for a moment of individual craptitude by Davies we'd have been level at the half. The 2nd half squad looked no better and maybe a little worse.

he would've been working with the team that started straight after the game against burnley, they should be the ones ready to play.

in regards to the HT changes, yes it was a bit dramatic but it was the sort of move that would've worked at every other club he's worked at. can you imagine him at Chelsea bringing on Lampard, drogba etc? those players would have shown a reaction.

I just don't know how many of the players really want it apart from Kane.

Perhaps Jose's taken to Instagram following the photo in the dressing room of all the players on their phones. Maybe he's trying to get his messages across via a medium they regularly use.

Maybe he’s trying to get down to their level? That seems to be the way young people communicate these days ( I‘m aware this makes me seem like an old git :D).

Don't worry, my oldest friends currently kinda hate me because I refuse to use Uber or participate in their stupid group video calls. So no, you don't sound old to me at least.

What have you seen that makes you think Jose is the one?

The list of trophies that he's won at every club he's been at?

We are not strong enough at the back to win anything.

Not yet, but he signed three defenders and a DM in the last transfer window to try and improve the defence. He also missed out on another CB target.

Interesting, he seems to be using social media more and more to communicate with the players.

Is this a good idea?

He's been doing it for years in interviews. It's just a modern twist.

I agree with the public attitude of Jose but he must explain why he subbed vinicus and lo Celso at half time.

If he wanted to make a statement. 3 subs would have been enough. Bergwijn Dele Winks for Son, Lamela, Hojberg

I don't know why he needs to explain it in public, but in light of some of his comments I'd hope that he has a word in private with some of the players that were taken off. We'll probably see who he's really upset with when he names the squad for Sundays game.

Only criticism of Jose this season is why sub Vinicius at HT today when he was playing well. If it was tactical to play with more pace then the gamble didn’t work this time. Seemed like a strange move to me but suppose he can’t get em all right.
Agree with this - I completely get why he made wholesale changes at HT but I thought Vini deserved a little longer. Also his comment about wanting to sub all 11 players was a tad harsh on those who were playing OK (appreciate not many players fall into that category).

Jose is slowly creating the mentality we lack, the players that can't cope with this will leave the others will go on his journey with him they have been warned.

It's funny how everyone seems to picked up on the fact that he said now you know why I don't pick certain players, yet they seemed to have missed the fact that he said that he'd take full responsibility for picking the team but I guess it comes down to what people want to read and a certain narrative they want to pursue doesn't it ?‍♀️

Completely agree.

Also think JM is completely wrong to come out against the squad players like that. It's far more difficult for 11 sqaud players to play as a team than for a few of them to step up into a settled first team.

In fact we were no better in the second half after the changes and were lucky not to lose the second half by 2 more goals! They missed two open goals and we barely had a shot.
