The problem is you've expressed your opinion..ad nauseam. But as soon as someone posts a dissenting opinion, you pop in to 'rebut' with a dismissive comment that doesn't contribute to the conversation in the slightest.

Finally, I never suggested you're a right miserable and self-righteous twat, but I'm glad you're at least self-aware. :)
Maybe i am a miserable and self righteous twat as you smugly suggested

Just realised we're not allowed to discuss Dele Alli or Harry Winks anymore as they've had their threads moved into the Transfer Forum.

That's right, we're not allowed to discuss Spurs players, in the Spurs Chat section of a Spurs forum.

Right. o_O

To be fair, all I said was that your posts were repetitive and getting boring. I'm not dismissing your point of view (though I disagree with it), and didn't say you were miserable or a twat. In any case, let's draw a line under it and hope for future Spurs success (even if that success is realized under Jose). (y)

JM is a walking contradiction.

He demands positivity, aggression and big balls from his players.

But when you analyse his own actions tactically they are negative, defensive and cowardly.

I wonder if the first half performance was a strategy to make Southampton confident to naively play a suicidal high defensive line. It's one of the shitshows that I can clearly see Mourinho doing it.

Or perhaps we are just shit.

I’m sure it’s been covered but wtf was all that about telling Son Harry Kane was MOM? That came across poorly.

Yeah I thought that. I felt bad for Son in that moment. I'm guessing Son knows JM is a nutter and Jose probably spoke to him properly afterwards to let him know how well he did, but it was a weird decision. It's not like he needs to motivate Kane either by pressing the point that he should've been MotM. Kane is well up for it already as we can all see. I'd get it if Alli got the 4 assists and a goal and he was just trying to man manage him.

Joke just seemed to fall flat with Sonny. He just needs to lighten up.
I think what you see on tv could be taken out of context. They could have said aboutnit jokingly before hand and.you dont know what expression Jose was pulling off camera.
I will say it didnt look good but meh, nothing to see there I feel.

The first half team shape wasn't good. From a possession point of view I think we suffer from

1) Lloris not having faith in his CB's and kicking long too often.
2) Sanchez not having faith in his CM's and kicking long too often.
3) Dier playing horrible, slow diagonals to a static Doherty.
4) Winks dropping between the CB's but them staying the same distance apart, achieving the square route of fuck all.
5) No passing options for our fullbacks after they receive the ball.
6) Moura not dropping anywhere near enough to make an extra option in midfield.

Defensively

1) Dier and Sanchez don't deal with the Southampton striker/s dropping off. They didn't pursue nor...
2) Did the CMs have any awareness of the man behind them. Could be because they didn't get the shout.
3) Son leaving a gap in front of Davies meant that they could effectively drag Winks across and stick their RW or Ings where Son should be.

The state of some of the posts in here earlier are borderline embarrassing.

Give the guy some bloody time, and let him have some time to build the squad he wants. He inherited a squad which needed a massive overhaul after years of stagnating. It's clear he is and will be backed so let's see what the squad looks like at the end of the window and then give him some time to work out his best team from there.

I loved Poch but if you asked me who would I rather give the money to strengthen the squad, it would be Jose everytime.

My prediction is he will be given the backing to put together the squad he wants and that this season he will be expected to deliver something whether that be top 4 whilst the new squad gets used to each other and Jose and then he will be expected to deliver big things the following year.
Didn’t José say our squad was great and almost didn’t need new players back in November last year?

You're missing the most obvious one of all. Spurs were effectively playing with 10 men for the first half. This meant we kept being pegged in because we couldn't get hold of possession. This emboldened Southampton. Mourinho rectified that at half time.

It might be the joint I just smoked, but todays game validated something I've been thinking about Jose's game strategy for a while.

We have seen this poor 1st half strong 2nd half type performance pretty often. Almost too often to be a coincidence. Running, intensity, movement, tempo, risk all seem to lack in our first 45 minutes of games.

Perhaps as a solution to lack of early season fitness and the insane schedule Jose is using 45 min periodisation? To reserve energy in the first half. Concede position, stay tight positionally with a view to being a close scoreline at half time and still in the game. Also allowing Jose an opportunity to assess the opponents shape and weaknesses.

Then increase the tempo and intensity 2nd half. Allowing us to 1) expend less energy over the course of 90 mins and 2) Have more in the tank than the opponents later in the game (also the high quality of our forwards, furthered by Bale support this strategy as they need few chances to score).

I saw a post on twitter saying how Mourinho’s entire philosophy and merit right now (especially with regard to our mentality) is to turn us from a talented side plagued by an inferiority complex into a rabid bunch of ruthless ****s. Dele and Dier fall into the latter category but they’re both essentially our worst players who consistently play. Point being is that being an absolute troll and nuisance on the pitch means nothing if you don’t have the talent to back it up. I feel Jose went from an extreme of thinking our issue is that we were too nice and focused on making us super pragmatic. The truth is somewhere in the middle.

I hated Eriksen shirking challenges as much as the next guy but give me that and his creativity every day of the week over Dele flipping off the opposition and being a **** but not producing on the pitch.

That has always been the catch 22 with us. Every time Jose mentioned in the documentary that we had to be assholes on the pitch I was slightly confused because we largely have been that way for a while.

RE: Battle of the Bridge
In 14 years of watching football I have never seen anything like the BOTB. That was literally the most petulant petty and violent match I’ve ever seen. To be very honest Chelsea were lucky that no one on their side walked away with a broken leg. We were rabid and ruthless.

But there’s a difference between being a shitty hard to play against opponent and a shitty hard to play against opponent who also has the talent to hurt you.

Obviously Amazon left out a bunch of hours of footage but I feel like Jose might be over compensating telling us to be ****s on the pitch. Although he did say we have to “smart ****s” that one time.

idk what ok even saying anymore I’m drunk ?

Is amazing people chose to interpret so many negative angles of Mourinho in that few seconds of interview interruption, but got no positive contextual understanding of him in 8 and half episodes of AON documentary.

OK I agree with most of what you said.

But we don't knock it long because the players don't have faith in other players. We play it long because Jose wants us to. For me, this is clearly part of a plan, specifically to hit long balls into space or into Kane and hope someone will get at the end of it. The idea being when successful it creates high quality chances. It is super annoying.

Jose is not a manager that cares two shits about possession, I think he prefers quick and direct attacks than patient build up from the back, like Poch does for example, and you can tell that there is often a dysfunction in the players not being sure what to do as unlike Poch, who would coach, even overcoach, what you should do in transition, who should you pass etc. This can make us predictable, but also gives an identity and clarity to play when done right. och's way of building attacks would be tweaked but it's the same thing game by game, copy and paste (with minor adjustments), regardless of opposition its a completely different concept of football than that of Mourinho.

Jose doesn't seem to have a clear template to how players should build attacks but maybe more to look for options, and he does like long direct balls and seems to prefer them when they are on. This is nothing new. I think how we attack is also more on a game by game basis. I mean pre-guardiola that's how most teams did it. I think part of the problem is that our players are not used to acting more on instinct or 'game plans' but rather are used to follow a clear 'philosophy' and way to build up attacks. P

This can provide hesitancy in our play and a lack of fluidity. Hopefully players get used to it, and it might well be that players are still struggling to unlearn what they learnt under Poch and might be overthinking things a little bit and making poor decisions as a result. The other possible problem, is the way Jose has us building attacks is simply outdated and doesn't work so much in a world where every team is able to build from the back, every team plays a relatively high line and every team applies some sort of pressing. Football has changed an awful lot since his most successful sides.

In any case, the second half our build up was much much better, and we even controlled the midfield, which is a very hard thing to do against Southampton, who are a team whose play is built on giving you as little space as possible in the centre of the park. We also started to try and build from the middle a lot more, and hopefully we will push towards that more now. I'm not against a long ball, but hit and hope isn't working for us, playing these percentage passes isn't working, and I am doubtful that they ever will work, and it is Jose's responsibility to find a solution to that, not the players.

The good (or bad) thing for you is that I'm not gonna let you get away with that stat which needs a load of context added to it, here 10 months correct, 4 of those months we've been in lockdown and pre season, come on it's not Twitter, you're better than that.

There was concrete evidence of forward planning post lockown, whether you chose not to see it due to our own personal bias is completely up to you, the alarming thing for me and I'm agreeing is that we looked like we're not as solid as we were last season, whether that's due to fitness or confidence or not playing up to instruction I'm not sure but to say there's been little evidence of a plan forming is entirely nonsense. Last week we attempted to press Everton high up the pitch but were pressing in the wrong zones, today we picked Southampton off on the counter due to them having a high line and Jose exploting their weakness dropping Kane deeper after HT.

You clearly have an agenda, the problem with people like you is that you're too quick to jump on the bandwagon because whatever you'll see you'll turn it into a negative in order to strengthen your confirmation bias. Coming into the thread at HT is just foolish, it's your own fault you're embarrassed.
Bit of a low blow there to talk about embarrassment. I didn’t think twice about my posts as I played with my 3 year old or ate dinner (chorizo and potato tacos with an IPA). I didn’t think about my post when I was doing a couple of hours work last night. So embarrassment? We’re not 19. Let’s not foment forum politics :)

The refrain from Mourinho in the early days was that he couldn’t work on anything with the players because he had games every 3 days. After lockdown he didn’t have that excuse because they had time to work on tactical elements. I don’t think the improvements in performance were acceptable.

I think you’re right to say that I am biased against Mourinho but I have acknowledged he deserves more time. But he needs to make progress in that time. The problem with him will always be that as he does not improve playing style, he must improve results. From this season there is no excuse. He is being properly backed, expensive signings from last year have had time to bed in and he starts the season on 0 points with everyone else.

Let’s see what happens. I’ll be the first to give credit where it’s due.

We are rapidly approaching a year. He’s not any old coach. He’s Jose. He’s amazingly fortunate to have no fans in the ground, as some of the football has been dull as.

credit where credit is due tho. Today. He put a smile on our faces (well, the result did).
Second half was heavy quick counter attacking football

What more do fans want
