The view I'm taking right now is far better than throw your toys out the pram, lacking any rationale knee-jerking thinking, I prefer that.
That comment shows you up a bit as you don’t understand the criticisms. You can disagree with them but you should understand them first.

We’re 10 months in and the squad is more talented than it has shown under Mourinho. There is precious little evidence of a plan forming beyond relying on moments of inspiration from his very talented forwards.

That is falsifiable so go ahead and explain Mourinhos plan for the side if it is apparent 10 months in.

Similarly if there are reasons for optimism in the past 10 months then please share them. You might turn to fewer goals conceded than under Poch? The improvement is extremely modest. And xG conceded is higher than under Poch over comparable timeframe.

So beyond blind optimism or endless patience, there is not that much to support your view is there?

Not going to fixate on it, as it was a glory glory day but it’s a bit shocking how open we still are.

You expect ups and downs in attacking quality with Mourinho, but you accept that because he sorts out the defense. Hope he can sort that aspect out.

Well that is what we’ve been waiting for to see, scintillating and devastating 5 goals 2nd half.

That 2nd half showed exactly what Jose is trying to do, his teams have always had a strong defensive base and world class attacking players to play on fast transitions and counter attacks.

At Chelsea he had : Duff, Drogba, Robben
At Madrid he had : Ronaldo, Benzema, Di Maria

Jose now has : Son, Kane, Bale

It took Klopp 3 seasons to properly overhaul the Liverpool squad and even just finish above us, Jose had had half a season picking a squad up mid-season with tons of issues and injuries.
We are now seeing with the players he’s brought in to suit the way he wants us to play that it can be devastatingly effective. Let’s not lie, the first half was very poor even though we had the ball in the net twice and their high line played into our hands but ultimately we won 5-2 and it could’ve been 7/8-2 on another day.

There will still be bumps in the road but the next steps are now:
- More signings to keep rebuilding the squad the way Jose wants it, if that means sacrificing Dele so we can play a fast 4-3-3 and bring in a CB, CM and ST then so be it
- Time, time for the signings to bed in, time for the new team to get used to the tactics and time to let the players build confidence and belief together with more wins and performances like that

I think that 2nd half could be a real turning point under Jose and add to this Bale, Regulion and possibly / hopefully others coming into the team it’s actually quite scary how good our squad could be.

Also fair play to Jose with yet another set of good substitutes and good use of squad management.

Exactly the same player we saw last season. Four lovely bits of play in 45 mins from our central midfield playmaker

Needs to be sold and replaced in the next 2 weeks
Nope. He’s a player. Managed perfectly today. Fast forward a couple of months and we’ll have the player we need.

Nobody is questioning his ability. He’s a brilliant footballer. Does not do enough, does not offer enough

Our record signing needs to show more, do more, create more. Run more
Needs to do everything more in a pivotal role in the middle of the park...

I know the Q wasn’t to me but see my post earlier in this thread regarding Jose’s previous teams and styles.

Jose obviously does give attacking instructions but his successful sides have always had a plan where they ‘control‘ the game by being solid and organised and controlling space and then attacking via fast transitions and counter attacks. It might not be tiki taka and lots of possession but there is a plan for sure but just like with pep and klopp it takes time and the right players to play the way the manger wants (Jose in this case).

Yep he was fine, that 360 spin and pass to Kane to then set up our first goal was amazing. Boy just needs more time and minutes, that sub at HT was just managing his fitness it wasn’t a ‘hook’ at HT for playing poorly at all.

positive signs for TN moving forwards :)

Give this man time. Some of you would see him out the door purely because he's Mourinho. The way he's training us is to be super deadly on the transition, that's how modern football is played, its all about the transition. Its how Liverpool and City enjoyed success. No more whinging please, let the man work :)

And now is the time for him to do it. He’s had a season bedding in and clearly it was difficult but now is the time to persevere. This guy will be a star and I’d prefer it was with us.

This 100x over. It amazes me that people are still slating Mou and not the players. These are the same players that got Poch sacked by playing gash football for a year!

Mourinho is trying to change the entire mentality of the club and also bring in new players. Can we stop the constant knee jerk reactions after 45 mins of football and give the guy atleast 1 season to try and prove himself?

Sorry, this is BS. He was by far the best of the midfield three in the first half. Winks was embarrassing, players going past him like he wasn’t there.

Yeah I do feel given more time Jose will have to overhaul more and get shot of some of our poor players, but we NEED to win now to keep Kane.

Positives are we have two truly top class players in Bale and Reguilòn to come in but midfield still worries me. Lo Celso is only top top player we have there at the moment, with hopefully Ndombele getting there, although even then we have no back up options going to show how thin our squad is.

I’ve always been a Winks fan and he has shown he has the ability in the past but has been poor for too long now, seems more a confidence / mentality thing than ability though, but that’s no good if can’t unlock him.

Seems he’s having to buy players to solve the problems though as we still have a lot of shit in there - Dier, Sanchez, Winks (sadly, even though he has the ability so hope he still comes good).

Looks like we’re gradually having to replace most of the team!

Hard to know if when we’re poor it’s because of Jose’s tactics being a bit off at times or just our squad being so poorly managed.
Think the squad just got to such a poor level, pre last January tw barely any of our players would get near a city or Liverpool or Chelsea or man.u side, now we have plenty: Lloris, Doherty, Regulion, Ndombele, GLC, Son, Bale, Kane and we have much much better squad depth. @Archibald&Crooks and others said it mid last season, our squad and team were mid table because that is what the quality of the squad had become, Poch mentioned the painful re-build, last season was painful, the pain is lessening more and more and this isn’t just a rebuild this is a much needed overhaul, no more average players or passengers or ones with the wrong attitude, be ruthless and be the naughty words Jose says.

Calm.

I just hope PEH and Doherty work out as I have concerns, but could be they’re settling.

Probably just from years of being a spurs fan and aside from the golden Poch period being largely disappointed! ??

I must have been watching a different 1st half then, because what I saw was the ONLY player in that half to have any composure and look almost every time to play incisive passes - The build-up to our first goal was all about him, he showed strength in the challenge, tenacity and superb vision to set Kane on his way to that first assist. What I am seeing is a player in transition, getting match fitness and fitness in general. No way should TN be sold - the opportunity of the player that we could have is most definitely worth persevering with.

Yep agree we need to win now, by time I just mean people were writing Jose off one game into this season lol, let’s let the transfer window finish and new signings bed in a bit and if we are still in all comps by that point we could do very well NOW.

This is also why I’m ok selling dele if it means getting in a CB, CM and ST NOW as that is about all we need now to have near on the best squad in the league, we sign those 3 positions and ship out a ton of deadwood and honestly name me a better premier league squad than this :

lloris
Hart/Gazza

Doherty
Aurier

DIAS or other top CB
Dier
Toby
Sanchez

Regulion
Davies

PEH
New CM

Ndombele
Sissoko

GLC
Winks

Bale
Lucas

Kane
INGS/ another top ST

Son
Bergweign / Lamela

id only swap that squad for Man City’s that’s it.

Lets goooo

The state from some of you.

Play poorly and badly - Mourinho's fault.
Just won a game 5-2 - no credit to Mourinho.

Always the gaffer fault when things went wrong and always the players awesomeness when things went right.

He's here for barely a year but just incoming players alone, we have upgraded 4 of the starting XI, and Hart, being a personnel of experience and mentality so much needed in the dressing room over Vorm.

Mid-game calls of sacking him will be so ridiculously prevalent this season unless we lead 2 goals in the first half.

But for better or worse, today's show this is a sport of two halves.

Bear in mind the current squad is the most balanced we have in a long long time. And we may still be adding a few more quality players in the coming weeks.

The prejudice against Mourinho is getting ridiculous ffs .

Just concerns me that Doherty is so attacking and maybe will leave us exposed at right back.

Also saints fans (although admittedly salty) were saying PEH average and he has been a little iffy for us thus far.

I’m just stressing as so concerned we have world class players like Kane, Son and now Bale and hope rest of team don’t let them down.
