I'm really over this Backward Ball style game, pass backwards and just defend and defend and defend and hope, or play for a fast break.

Its a dangerous style to play against top teams and just not pretty to watch, but that's me, just not a Jose fan.
I disagree, I think it's less dangerous than having 8 outfield players committed in forward positions and trying to open up spaces using our centre backs as playmakers and getting caught with pace in behind a high line.

When we sit and defend and selectively press where able to we can craft many more clear-cut opportunities and we're able to keep a much more solid defensive shape.

There was a time when people used to think fast direct interchanging attacking play was attractive football but since peps tika taka everyone seems to think you need to have 70% possession to play attacking.

It's a complete lie

The 2 domestic cups ain't worth shit these days.
Wonder if you'd have the same opinion had Poch picked one up. Winning anything is a step in the right direction and could well change the mentality of the players. To a club that's winning everything it's of course going to be less significant. To a team that's won nothing for ages it would be huge.

True, and despite that Man City still try to win them every year, and often do.

Interesting that Steve Bruce said that was the best Newcastle have played for a long time, despite it being the first time they have lost at home since 1st Jan. Bruce also thought we were excellent. When we drew with Man U after defending excellently everyone said it was a poor Man U team who were struggling to score. They subsequently scored 18 goals in their next 6 games. We beat Arsenal, but critics said 'yeah but Arsenal are weak', then Arsenal go and beat Liverpool. Our abberation away at Sheff Utd was considered to be against a poor team, who have subsequently beaten both Wolves and Chelsea with clean sheets. We have won 4, drawn 2 and lost 1 of the 7 games since the restart. We would be third if the season started the week JM took over. I got very angry after the Sheff Utd and Bournemouth performances as I felt we showed far too little ambition or fluidity. Two of the worst performances I have seen since the 4 consecutive 0-0's under George Graham in the mid nineties. Emotionally, I wanted JM as far away from our club as possible. But considering we played 4 games with only two days rest between each, each tiem with the opponent having more rest, I can understand how we played. Now I am seeing things differently and think he does need time. Give him a DCM, new full backs and a back up CF, and I think we can challenge.

I’d suggest that with Hojbjerg likely signing and a clear indication that Skipp is going to be getting more responsibility next season, the only think that’ll stop us selling Ndombele will be a lack of a suitable offer, as he’s run out of time now to show anything this season and if we want to go into next season set up to succeed we can’t afford to place our bets on someone who hasn’t shown he’s up to it yet.

I just hope we don't fall into the trap of taking a crappy loan swap for him if he is to leave. Has to be for someone much more valuable than an Umtiti or Semedo for example.

Unless PSG step in with mega bucks, or Real get interested and could offer better swap options like Jovic and Odriozola, I suspect the most likely outcome is he stays.

Ideally we can get a tune out of Sess and Ndombele this summer, guess time will tell.

One thing about jose is that he has quite a high level of extrinsic motivation (part of this is being motivated to do well so you're recognised by others), listen to any of his press conferences and as much as he tries to deflect it to say its not about me its about the team etc, it is absolutely 100% about him but that's fine because he needs the team to succeed for him to succeed.

Anyway as I studied this element of Sports Psychology a while back it got me thinking about how the Tottenham job in so many ways is perfect for what Jose wanted:
  • Ultimately this is all about winning with a slightly underdog club so people can say oh ok so Jose isn't finished and look what an amazing job he did at Tottenham
  • Club has only won one trophy in the past 20 years so if he can just win one League Cup with us that will be a huge success in his and other peoples eyes, if he wins anything bigger than that, FA Cup, Europa League etc or two trophies then he'll be hailed as the messiah and his legacy won't be tarnished it will be reinvigorated, as he and others will be able to always say you have to rate Jose pretty highly, he's won it all, he even won trophies with Tottenham
  • The FFP rhetoric against Man.City is another great blessing for Jose as this adds to this siege mentality of oh poor Spurs and other clubs they can never compete with these clubs and whilst he and we know it will be very difficult, its certainly not impossible, Leicester have proved it, to an extent Liverpool have proved it and we proved under Poch that with our resources (which should only now improve financially once fans and events are back) that it was possible for us to make a CL final, 2 title 'challenges', FA Cup semi finals, League Cup finals
  • PL top 6 club, its his favourite league and also the main neysayers are the english media after his recent times at Chelsea and Man.U (which were actually very successful anyway so the stick he gets in the media is very unjust) but he's now got this job in almost the perfect 'underdog' club in the PL, one who don't have the riches of some of the other top 6 but one which has an amazing infrastructure and who keep improving on and off the pitch.
  • If fans and events come back then Jose will know that he will have a reasonable amount to spend to improve what he knows is an already talented squad which does need some improving and tweaking but not a complete overhaul, it has the nucleus of a strong side: Lloris, Toby, Dier, Sanchez, Lo Celso, Son, Kane
So to summarise I just thought it would be interesting to bring this up because whether you like or dislike Jose or his football, the fact he's so extrinsicly motivated for me is partly why he's so successful as this drives him to keep going, it can be a slight negative as we know he doesn't react well to criticism but there will be a huge fire inside him which is determined to make a success of this with Spurs and to win something with us, I think ideally he wants to win something in his 3 year contract and if all is going well mabye extend a year or two to win more than one trophy, otherwise if he can just win one trophy for us and then walk away I think he can move onto International management a happy man with the press and fans singing his praises.

Fingers crossed we back him and he can be successful with us.

COYS.

I think he is definitely one to keep an eye on. But we don't need a project manager right now. Get one of those in you will see the old guard move on pretty quick I think. In a few seasons he might be ideal.

Agree about Potter and prefer him to Eddie Howe but we have José and, although he wasn’t my first choice, I’m coming round and believe we should back him
No the footy isn’t great but he’s getting a few results now and if we can have a bit of a clear out this Summer and he can get a few players in then we can kick on next season

I am old enough to have seen every trophy we have won except for two 1901 / 1921 / even I am not that old .
I would be so happy to win any trophy and this looking down your nose at the two domestic cups is just plain daft and misguided and at worst bloody stupid with arrogance beyond relief . Right now I would settle for an egg cup as it is more than we have had in 12 years .

Only lo

Yet all our best performances are against top teams. Just the trust the process, this man has consistently won trophies and we're consistently losers.

yeh he has, with clubs with unlimited funds and considerably better squads than we have, and been sacked by all of them

sorry, just not a fan and he wont last here in my humble opinion

Jose likes to win and won't want to see his time at Spurs end without a trophy, and if Levy doesn't back him, he'll be off tout suite. A season out of Europe could be a blessing in disguise.
