I know that this is going against the grain and that everyone is understandably emotional right now. But, in some respects, I don't believe that what we just witnessed was such a terrible all round performance.

Sure, there were three howlers at the back that cost us dearly. And I concede that that is what counts. Football - all sport, even - is about pivotal moments and the best make sure that those pivotal moments go their way. On such criteria, today's game was a categorical failure.

But I was encouraged by the way that the team tried to play, at least. Dominated possession. Passed and moved well. The intention was positive. But we were badly let down by the final ball. We worked so many good positions down the flanks but not once - not one single, fucking time - did Aurier or Davies put in a good final ball. Absolutely crucified us. We need good full backs. Desperately. If we had them now, we would have won that game. Comfortably.

This one isn't on Mourinho.

Absolutely spot on. The organisation, tactics and style of play were good. The combinations in midfield and the movement were good. It was as good as we could get out of the players.

Jose even said that we collapsed after the VAR decision. If this man who has an amazing track record of motivating huge egos can't get them to believe then they need binning.

I’m sorry guys at the minute I’m still a BSODL but I’m certainly thinkin about a paternity test. The players look uninterested and Jose really doesn’t look that bothered. I’m a club man before anything but I’m really starting to miss Poch. That performance was error ridden.

Mate honestly doesn’t matter who the manager is the squad is a mess and is overrated, this is on LEVY/ ENIC
Yep.

Nagelsmann would come in, sort the system out, look dangerous, have a good spell, state we need investment, club would not support. club would regress.

When under ENIC have we ever gone from one coach to another with a temporary bump inbetween? It's always new coach, bit of hope, bump, next coach, really bad experience, bump - repeat.

Contrast to Chelsea who in some occasions have won, fired the coach, new coach in, back to winning.

Aurier, Sanchez, Davies, Moura and Sissoko - all five first choice players for us. All bang average mid table players. Hence we are now alongside the likes of crystal palace in the table .

While I am skeptical about jose's ability to turn it around, it Seems a bit premature to make that decision. The problem with this team is their mentality. The amount of fight that they have to day is so much smaller than what they had in years past. I am skeptical because of the lack of progress, however, I think Jose needs a chance to get some of His type of players in house. While dm, left back and right back may be higher technical priority, my opinion is that we need a leader on the field in the midfield. Do you think Roy Keane in the middle of that pitch would have allowed players to Put that kind of effort in? And before people get on the it's the coaches job to create a mentality, they are professionally Paid players who are responsible for their own and mentality and the coach is there to do nothing but put the finishing touches on.

We are probably going to have to sell before we buy this summer as Covid-19, no European football and Poch/Jose wages will make things difficult. We will seriously have to lower our expectations over the next few years. Even if we do have money, would you give it to this manager? Probably not imho.

Yeah I agree with this. It feels like Levy chose Mourinho because he’d believed Mourinho would inherit a squad ready to win trophies after the years Poch had spent preparing them.

In reality, he’s been left a team which looks tired, demotivated and in need of an overhaul. Like you say, Jose is not the man to do that.

With that said, I really don’t know who I would’ve actually chosen instead of Mourinho to lead this long term rebuild. I like Nagelsmann but also feel like he’s a bit of a hipster’s choice and he needs to do more before getting a big job in England.
Ralph Hasenhuttl. He's already proven he can work on a budget in Germany (Ingolstadt), compete with a emerging club (RB Leipzig) and keep a struggling PL club up and build on it. Even in his darkest moment (9-0 Leicester) he lifted the players and kicked on with them. It is only a matter of time before a big club gets him. Only problem is he's now signed a new contract...

I would argue with Sanchez & Sissoko in the right system with the right players around them

The other 3 cannot be argued

Poch was sacked after 12 PL games, when we had just 14 points, those games included away fixtures against City, Liverpool and Arsenal.

In the last 12 PL games Mourinho has managed just 1 point more than this, with just one hard away game (Chelsea).

The man lost too many dressing rooms to be inspirational for the players, he's not a good match for Tottenham, and I will be pleased when he and his boring brand of football are gone from the club.

This squad is weak af. No matter the manager we have, our squad is weak.

If we don't improve it this summer transfer window be prepared to fight the relegation battle next season.

The really disheartening thing about this current situation is that even if you principally blame Enic for our current state, they’re not going anywhere fast. The stadium has essentially locked them to the club for years to come because I can’t see there being much interest in buying a mid/ upper mid tier club for the 2 billion quid evaluation Enic have apparently placed on us. And that’s before any investment to rebuild a squad that’s in a stare of decline

All very good points, to be honest we’ve lacked good leaders on the pitch for a long time. I also don’t think having Hugo a goalie as captain helps.

Over the past 10-20 years the ‘leaders’ we’ve had I’d say have been:
Friedel
Lloris
King
Gallas
Jan
Parker
Davids
Van Der Vaart
Robbie Keane
Kane

Mabye I’ve missed a few but of those I’d say the only ones who’d give people a Proper kick up the ass and drive the team forwards would have been:
Gallas
King - in a soft way
Parker
Davids
Kane

This shows a huge issue we’ve had in just not having a proper captain and not having many players who are proper leaders to get us over the line. Add to this our squad is now verging on mid-table quality I’m really not surprised how we’ve regressed.

1.LEVY/ENIC’s squad management and running of the football side of the club simply has not been good enough...EVER
2. They did build a big new stadium which would help us close the gap financially but covid has stopped the benefits of they currently
3. Jose could be doing a bit better but really our squad is a mess, it’s overrated, it lacks leaders with good mentality and we are about more or less where we should be to be quite honest.

Not sure why this got a doh, I agree with you he’s a very good manager and will go on to better things. Southampton tend to pick fairly decent managers.

I’m just not so sure mate, Sanchez I love and thought he has so much potential but he’s just not consistent enough, for a bit guy he’s bullied quite easily and his positioning is no where near say a Toby’s.

Sissoko honestly is bang average, we’ve known it for a long time.
