The mark of a good manager is when they identify something the rest of us don't see and make it work.
And that is summed up by that back five.
Not one of them had any form coming into the Covid break so when I saw them together I was more than a little worried.
But those last couple of games we've looked more solid at the back than we have for a couple of seasons.
Still early days but Jose seems to have identified the right combination for his style of play.

The preferred front three of Son, Kane, and Steve is a no-brainer and the inclusion of Lo Celso and Sissoko in the middle is also a must in our strongest eleven.
Just leaves that third CM role to fix and we're back to a CL place challenging side.

That's a big improvement over the 14th place car crash he took over.
100% spot on

But do you honestly believe that it is just about winning? It is about so much more. Even if you disagree and believe that it is just about winning, it must also then be about being able to sustain winning. Jose plays in a way that I do not believe will lead to sustained success. Yes, he may win something next season, but what about after that? If your play requires that you sit back and soak up pressure, eventually you are going to come unstuck.

Apart from all of that, my belief is that you go out and win games not wait for mistakes from the other team. I want to watch good, proactive football not this passive rubbish that is being served up.

It's great to have beliefs, I believe Spurs will win the league one day however being realistic it's not going to happen this season though it may next season.

I think out current manger has the experience to take us there and the ability to bring players to the club that other managers wouldn't.

I think you have to take each game as they come and treat with equal importance and having the experience there of a manager who can mould the players to do that and not give away sloppy goals at the end of a game is what Jose can do. I also like the way he reacts and often has a plan B.

Why dont you focus on the here and now rather than whether we can sustain future wins as the landscape is forever changing.

Brendon Rodgers would be in the bottom three of the 20 premier league managers as a pick .
I may be wrong but I believe that man is so in love with himself that anything and everything else comes second to him .
That man is just one egotistical lump he obviously works out and spends many hours cleaning his teeth where as most other managers are a little overweight or at least not too fit because their main focus is getting their team right with him its secondary get himself looking pretty then concentrate on the team . I expect abuse for my thoughts but I have met the likes of him many times myself and I can tell you his type is not to be left alone with your missus I would not be surprised if he carries a Combe and a little mirror around with him .

In the first 30 minutes it was quite even. Then we slowly took over and pressed them back. They lacked ambition and didn't really push forward. But it was all very predictable and slow. We struggled to create much. I personally do not think that is how we should be playing.

We were playing against an awful team who let us do what we wanted. It was not great in my opinion.

I agree regarding the first 20 or 25 minutes (until the drinks break) being uninspiring, but it was no different to how a lot of teams have begun games since the restart. After that we were so on top it was embarrassing and could of won the game 4 or 5 nil with better finishing.

I don't agree they let us do what we wanted. They were pretty strong defensively until the 40 minute mark when they tired and mistakes crept in.

If we play like we did on Tuesday for the remaining games there was more than enough to show that we will do well in the matches. Here's hoping anyway.

It was reminiscent of a latter year Poch performance, the only difference is that we didn't piss around at the back with the ball.

I thought we created some good chances the other night, the finishing will come as long as we keep getting into those positions.

Also has everyone forgotten how terrible our form was before the break? How terrible our defence has been all season? How many of our key players are just back from injury?

You could see a clear gameplan against West Ham and players working hard to stay in position and get organized. Of course we look rusty but the 2 things we needed most from that game were a win and a clean sheet and we got both. A few of them in a row and we'll see some tasty football I'm sure.

Just listened to a podcast with the people on there bemoaning the fact that Jose does not play attacking football like Man City etc.
I was thinking perhaps if we had the spent the amount of money "teams that play attacking football " then perhaps and almost probably
we would . But us supporters have to live in the real world and not some dreamlike state where you can magically play winning attacking football without the players to do so .
The most attacking spurs manager in my time watching spurs was Ardiles but he did not have the players to be successful in the manor he wanted to play therefore he was an abject failure .
Myself for one am fed up with people wanting the best team playing the best football without the money required to do so .
For that reason I am happy with Jose and I honestly believe that with the right personnel that he is looking for in the summer albeit out of contract players and players costing compared to what City Chelsea Man unt will pay it will be peanuts he will bring us a trophy or two in his tenure . Those that dream about playing like City / Barca / Real / are just teasing themselves because unless we are taken over by some uber rich Arab country or some company like Amazon its not going to happen .
So here is a thought " get behind the team and the manager " and stop daydreaming and teasing yourselves.

I have a feeling that lot of fans or pundits expected from Mourinho, that he will instantly made this team play like in pick Poch era. Everybody seems to forget that since best Poch era which was like 1.5-2 years ago we regressed back to the team from which Poch was building for the rest 4 years. And yet everybody expected us to play like City or Liverpool. We are building almost from scratch. Yes, lot of good players are still here but the team is gone. The spirit, culture, aim is all gone and we try to rebuild that. Don't know if Mourinho will do what all of us want to see but we definitely progressed in those two games after brake in compare to what was before. Jose himself told us that we are still not playing the way we should in attack, that we should be quicker, faster, more fluid. So it's a good sign that he sees that and wants to improve. It was totally justifiable to focus on defense and team organization first before polishing attack. Everybody was laughing at Liverpool before they sorted they defensive game. And look where they are now.

We did play a better brand of football but Levy never backed the manager at the vital point and it all fell apart. I am prepared to be bored for the next two years and be left in a worse state because we hired the man with the biggest ego in the world. West Ham and Man utd were both poor performances, against Man Utd we were lucky they could not finish, then against West Ham we fluked a goal and then we started to cut them apart.

I think this is true, but only partially. In reality I think it was a perfect storm of lack of investment, having to move stadium twice, and various players and staff including Pochettino himself become unsettled. It was always going to be long way back from that.

Even if things go tits up I struggle to see Jose leaving us in tatters like he did United.

Recent signings like Bergwijn and Lo Celso already look better fits than pretty much everyone Jose signed at United, while other players like Tanguy and Sess are clearly talented but just need to find their roles in the side. The core of our side are on long contracts and probably won't be sold anytime soon.

I'd also say that, compared to his Chelsea and Utd, our team is a relatively ego-free zone and is known for being a very decent, respectful group of lads. It's difficult to see them collectively turning on Jose in the way that some of his previous teams have - certainly not to the same degree anyway.

If Jose moves on in a year or two, there should still be a pretty strong squad left for whoever comes in to work with.

At this point, having only ever seen us win the FA Cup in 1991 and two league cups in my many, many years supporting Spurs, witnessed the dross of Gross, all hail Bale and the "triffic chap Redknapp" years, I can honestly say I'd just like to see us lift a trophy.

Just one FFS. A 1-0 at Wembley. Just so we can get that off our backs. At this point, I don't care how we win it.

I've enjoyed the exhilarating football we played under Pleat, Jol, Redknapp and mostly Pochettino and cringed at the Ramos, Francis, Gross and AVB years. The 7-1 defeat to Newcastle and 7-1 win over Hull.

But now, the "so much other stuff" is all done. We've done all the other stuff. Except win. Something. Please. Just. Win. Something.

I couldn't agree more, but for many fans just winning isn't enough.
That poster you've quoted not only wants to win, he wants to win whilst playing good proactive football (no passive rubbish), and if that wasn't enough entitlement its also got to be sustainable.

I don't think anybody can argue that we haven't looked more solid over the past 2 games relative to the rest of the season. I'd also put forward and say that our moves in terms of switching the ball from attack to defence after a turnover have got a lot faster which is a good sign. I'd say reworking our defensive foundations was always going to be the first order of business as it should be for any team and the attack will hopefully come in time.

I haven't particularly enjoyed the football but have enjoyed the improvement of midfield 2 and the two CB's in terms of solidity even if it isn't perfect yet, it's a big step forward and it should give us hope that a reasonably good summer would vastly improve things further.
