Wouldn’t say he’s wrong though
Well it isnt wrong but lets be honest, Jose is much more up front than this. He’d say it as publicly as possible, in a press conference for the entire world to hear. So it is bullshit and trying to give bulletin board material to United.

If true that's not the case.
Jose is being very very smart by undermining the manager and not the players. Maybe some of them agree in which case they would question OGS decisions even more. He's undermining the person who can't respond on the pitch.

Again...if true which is doubt

The travails of Spurs ever since Redknapp was in charge have been linked directly to the existence and/or form of a defensive-minded midfielder.

Whether it has been Palacios, Sandro, peak Dier, GOAT Dembele or Wanyama, Spurs have done well and progressed when they have played well. When we haven't had one and they didn't play well we've started a slow descent into awful football and results.
Once JM has a DM we'll see the team he envisioned

My concern is that we still concede silly goals and haven't learnt to defend as a team under Jose, to be fair we were doing that in the latter years of Poch but since we've transitioned to a new style of play we're just giving up chances even more now. Do I expect that to chance on the restart, not really no but the difference is that we now have attackers back who can win matches so we could potentially outscore the opposition - however I do expect us to improve over time and when we get some defensive reinforcements.

I agree with you but I don’t think the bold bit is true. I’m sure I saw the stats that we were actually giving up less chances since Mourinho joined. It hasn’t felt like it Though, I was surprised when I read it. But it really illustrated how bad we’d become under Poch. I’m sure it's on SC somewhere.

The athletic has become very daily mailish. Guess those massive layoffs were of the editorial staff and they kept the writers good at clickbait and stirring the pot.

Ive had a look through the recent Athletic articles and I can’t see that anywhere. I guess it could be regurgitated from any time in the past though, which I expect is the case.

I know I'm detracting from the excellent point you are making, but you forgot Scott Parker, the man who gave Modric and Van der Vaart such freedom.

This is so true.

We've had some brilliant DMs but the position is cursed. Every pure DM we have had, has been incredible for about 6 months-1 year and then completely fallen away for some reason: injury (Sandro, Wanyama), age (Parker) or family issues (Palacios). I suppose Dier is the outlier, but I'd argue he's the least natural DM of the lot (though he was decent for a couple of seasons).

Let’s buy two then!

Someone mentioned Palacios ; today I read an article with Palacios and he says he " wanted to play for a bigger club than spurs " you must forgive me but
" delusions of grandeur " comes to mind and he said he wanted to play for Real Madrid .
His name was made with us and before he came to us he was a minor player with a minor club I always feel that if any player has left a legacy with a club this kind of statement completely destroys or tarnishes it leastways .
It for me comes across that the player feels spurs were below his capabilities whether that is true or not it comes across that way and players that make such statements I find myself wondering if the were giving their all or playing half cock because the felt they deserved better .

Why shouldn't a footballer aim to play for the biggest club in world football?

If all our players had the desire to play for Real Madrid we'd be winning trophies very regularly.

He was fantastic for us up until the moment a member of his family were taken as ransom and eventually killed and he was never the same player after that understandably, I'm not offended if he had dreams of playing for Madrid, it's his life and career and it's a shame he wasn't able to fulfil those dreams due to devastating things out of his control. If you want to be offended that players have aspirations bigger than us especially our stature back then well that's up to you.

Do u honestly think foreign players grow up dreaming of playing for Spurs?
Blimey, he's only being honest.

Don't ever underestimate fans ability to make players career ambitions an attack on said fans family honour.

I always remembered him as a very strong player for Wigan. Lampard was the one who told Redknapp that he was an absolute monster to play against and whilst he didn't have the best attributes of all DM's, the man put himself about and bullied other midfielders.

Limited as a football, but an incredible destroyer who had a fire burning inside him for every fight - sadly that died with his brother.
Think people should remember as well that Spurs weren't much of a club in Palacios' life time up until the point he joined us.

Agree. His debut at home against the Scum in that otherwise forgetable 08/09 season was a joy to watch. He was instrumental in our 1-0 win at home against eventual champions Chelsea as well. Seemed to up his game when we really needed it.
