I've calmed down a bit now and am back to where I was before the game, which is that Jose is going nowhere and it's probably unfair to judge him in the current clusterfuck situation.

I'm not optimistic it will work out with Jose but it's unfair to judge him until he has a squad to work with. I do not think we will go on a mad spending spree in the Summer but am hopeful a few that are clearly past their best/not working out will be replaced - probably LB, DM and swap one of Moura/Lamela for an upgrade. I suspect he will want to replace Hugo partly due to his mistakes and partly due to him being Poch's main man.

He would've been criticised for throwing the current players under the bus if he said we needed a rebuild, like Poch was.

Of course but even so we have to take what he is saying as factual, especially after the comments Levy came out with this week, with no CL & possibly no europe at all, i find it hard to see us making the changes needed.

Yes we have an abnormal amount of injuries but Jose's constant negativity shows that he has thrown the towel in for the rest of this season. Why would the players give their absolute all for a manager that is looking forward to July as opposed to the next fixture?
I know I am.

SC when Poch lost vs SC when Jose loses

View attachment 64497

Funny but not really true is it?

When Poch lost badly early doors people were at his throat.

When Poch lost even at our pomp - people said he wasn't a "winner".

Now those people have their "winner" and we are worse than ever.

And it's the way we are always losing that is a cause for concern.

Poch got sacked for bad performances. The precedent has been set. That's no one's fault but those who wanted the precedent set at the level. We have to deal with that now. Jose now has to deal with a lazy squad who got their high-performance coach sacked cos he made them work hard.

That's fucking hard.

Lol? Mourinho hasn’t lost 8 knockout stage matches with us.
But he has lost his last 8 knockout matches

Mourinho has won 13 major trophies since we last won a single trophy.

I like Mourinho and always have - but this stat is meaningless.

The question is - will he be able to take us forward as a club now?

The trophy gambit is dust. We were sold trophies "now". That's gone.

Focus on whether or not Mourinho can rebuild us and take us forward now we are a shambles.

I hope he can. Not sure his record suggest that.

It would be his biggest triumph..

The ENIC thread should have 500 pages and this one 90 odd.

It's this reality which means our reality wont change much. And we're not alone. This game is hollowed out. The only ones that still truly care are the only group with no say in anything yet they keep forking out money with plenty more eagerly waiting for a chance to do likewise.

Meh, it'll be a fun summer anyways. Slight uptick before the next shitstorm or it goes wrong and Jose walks and we get instant shitstorm.

Where will Daniel go then. Perhaps he can sign BTS to play in our midfield and kill two birds with one stone.

Everyone knows we have issues. A team in transition, poor form, fragile confidence, and now injuries on top.

But some of what is happening there is no excuse. Even if you accept we're in a difficult situation and that we will probably lose games, personally I'm expecting a bit more resolve than I am seeing. For us to roll our sleeves up, give the whole the world the finger, tell it to fuck off, and at least go down defiantly.

At the moment everyone involved, players and staff, are just turning up and going through the motions. There in body, but definitely not in spirit. We're not really attacking and giving games a good go, we're not really defending and trying to keep the opposition out as if lives depend on it, individually we're getting loads of mistakes and players not looking switched on, collectively we're non-existent and just eleven individuals doing their own thing, tactically there is very little evidence of any plan whether we have the ball or don't have it, most players are just moping about, and in the dugout there is no energy compared to the opening weeks under Mourinho everyone is very subdued.

Ultimately it has to be on the manager as the figurehead to be responsible for the culture, environment and atmosphere around the team and what it transmits out on the pitch. I do have suspicions that he has so obviously given up on this season and that's fed through to the players. Whatever the issues we're facing at the moment though that is not good enough.

I don't honestly believe we're doing everything we can though, and that those involved are giving 100%. There is some responsibility towards your fanbase to try and attempt to put on a show. We could get everyone in behind the ball and defend our way to a glorious 0-0. We could, preferably, just throw men forward, get the ball in the box (even if he has to find a couple of big lads, even if that's Gazzaniga and Dier FFS, to put up there and chuck the ball into), and have a right good go at games. We could just chuck youth teams out there as a last resort. But if it's just going to be like this, where they've all obviously given up and just going through the motions, they should come out and be honest about it so fans don't have to waste their time and money turning up or watching on the TV and having hours of their lives wasted and their support being completely for nothing.

I got back and forth on whether we can judge him now or not.

He didn't get the summer to bed in his players and install his identity on the team. He inherited a team with aging defenders and shortage at key positions. He has been struck by a huge amount of injuries and lost Son, Kane and Sissoko for extended periods of time. And one of his January purchases now out for the rest of the year as well. That is a lot to give him a break on.....

But then plenty of managers have come in with aging teams or teams that they didn't pick and made it work. Pulis and Fat Sam (neither who i would want) have made a living out of being airdropped into a team and making them defensively stout while being dull in attack and they do it with far less talent than Jose has available. We look confused at the back frequently. Our attack looks toothless most matches. A big chunk of that comes from coaching but can be helped with bringing in the "right" players.

But the part that genuinely bothers me is that the players just don't seem to be fighting. That part is 100% on Jose and strikes me as the squad just not buying into what he is preaching. That is much harder to fix and usually is what ends up costing a manager his job.

No we weren't.

I never bought it but yes, we were.

That's why so many people are so angry. I'd say"irrationally" but actually they were promised a "winner" with immediate results. Over a manager who admitted a "painful rebuild".

That's reality.

The club has to deal with that.

We have a shit, imbalanced squad, have been ravaged by injuries for 2 years and lost our 2 best players to long term injuries. We have made 6 signings in the last year and only Lo Celso has made an impact on the first team. I have no idea whether Jose will work out in the end, but I don't think there is a manager out there who would be doing well in this situation. There is a long list of people to blame for this before people should start blaming Jose.
