I think it's clear that unless we literally don't win a game for the rest of the season and get dragged into a relegation scrap, Mourinho is going to get a full summer and transfer window before he gets judged properly. Maybe when he gets Kane and Son back and brings in a couple of players then we'll morph into this entirely new side. Until then, there are a some serious red flags.

1. The defence has been absolutely atrocious. Kane and Son being injured should have no bearing on our ability to put out a coherent, organised backline. Just three clean sheets in the league since he joined, with the likes of Sheffield Utd, Wolves and Crystal Palace having lower goals conceded columns - we are closer to the worst defensive record in the league than we are to Sheffield Utd. Are our defensive players really all that bad? Are they that much worse than those clubs? We have some very highly rated and expensively signed players in our squad, is this really as good as they can get before we start trying to buy our way out of trouble?

2. The attack is also crap. It's just diabolical to watch. We just aren't creating enough chances. Football is a simple game, and in general those teams who create the most also scored the most over the course of the season. We're not doing it, and that doesn't look like changing any time soon. The movement of our attacking players is crap, their touches in and around the box seem way off and to be honest it just looks like poor coaching to me. I think I remember reading about how much time Klopp spends training his teams on attacking moves, I just don't see any evidence of that at all.

3. He doesn't appear to have a clue what his best XI is. Yes, we've had a lot of games and have needed to rotate, and yes, we've had a lot of injuries, but there's just no consistency to our systems or personnel. Again, maybe this changes in summer, but at the moment it's just a disorganised mess.

We're not the first team to have injuries in our squad, nor is there going to be this magical season when everyone gets fit and stays fit for the entire season. The fact that we are coping so badly with the loss of Kane and Son shows as much as anything else a loser's mentality throughout the squad, instead of standing up and making themselves counted the mindset just seems to be a "well what could I do? Not my fault guv". I'll remind you all that last season Liverpool took on Barcelona when 3-0 down with Salah and Firmino both out injured and Robertson going off at half time - we all remember how that ended and it wasn't with them moaning about injuries.

Like I said at the beginning, it's hard to see much changing before the summer at which point we'll get to REALLY judge this side, but at the moment this is arguably the least enjoyable season of the past 15 years. At least Sherwood had us in the top 6...

I'm still surprised that he hasn't gotten the defence a lot meaner than it is currently that was the one area I thought he would target first.
The gooners probably have an inferior back four to ours and yet arteta is getting some clean sheets along with making them harder to beat.
I understand his hands are tied with the striker situation which is a combination of bad luck and bad recruitment, but I certainly thought we would be harder to beat than what we are especially conceding every game at the moment.

Some one posted this earlier in the thread.

We simply cannot judge the manager brought into the middle of this shambles until he has Son or Kane back. He had the third best record this season with strikers, but what the hell is he really supposed to do without any.

Could try and defend at the very least

Good article and the Brexit style "Jose in or Jose out" definitely rings true.

For what it's worth I think we will keep him until a couple of months into next season, which makes sense.

Not at a club without an endless pot of cash he hasn’t. He's also never built anything sustainable anywhere he's been.

It was in response to someone earlier suggesting it was funny people say 'give N'Dombele time' but won’t do the same for Mourinho. I was just pointing out, a player at the start of their career has potential they could reach. Same with a young manager they could get better, not an old manager or an old player.

If you replaced Mourinho with Hodgson then that supports your initial point.still find it silly comparing player against a manager however if it makes sense in your head then that's all that matters!

I’m excited, I’m sure Jose said we can win the league next year and that we have all the players he needs

Oh there's more than just the mental exhaustion at play here for sure. It's just 1 of the issues we have, but it's a big 1 for sure and I think it leads to more issues such as poor decision making, lack of self belief etc.
Also don't underestimate the psychological blows losing 3 key players to injury can have, especially when 1 is your leader and talisman on the pitch, the second is your next biggest goal threat and the 3rd is your engine room.

All parts of a whole host of problems that we are struggling to overcome.

Here's some food for thought, Liverpool got turned over by Chelsea when they'd lost Henderson to injury, Salah didn't play and Firminho was on the bench. They also rested TAA. They created chances granted, but Chelsea were able to limit Mane and, barring a dire finish, should have had 3 goals. So you take out their engine room and main goal threat, remove their number 9 and they end up losing.

See the correlation? 2 forwards missing, their main midfielder (who also happens to be the heartbeat of their team) and they struggle. This is the team with absolute belief that they are the best in the World.

Kind of puts our situation into perspective really.

Again very reasonable, but my point is when things are against you I expect good managers to raise their game.

I might be wrong. I haven´t seen any stats about distance covered, number of sprints etc. One of the reasons why I wrote my post to see how others see the situation. If it is true that we do play with less energy then I am still disappointed that Mourinho hasn´t gotten more out of the squad in that respect. Doesn´t mean I think Mourinho has done a poor job overall. As stated earlier I am quite impressed with Mourinho so far. I don´t think he has done brilliantly, but certainly not poorly. Before these last weeks I would have said he had done very well - now I might bring him down to well. In any case I will not "judge" Mourinho for at least another 12 months. Look at Utd. They looked worse than we have under OGS and now they actually look quite decent.

Seeing as the way over the top 'under the bus' bollocks is getting an airing I'll go OTT the other way.

This is actually an outstanding piece if management by Mourinho. Lets be honest, its refreshingly truthful, a touch brutal and largely designed to give him the kick up the arse he so obviously needs. We'll (hopefully) either see an improvement in the player and therefore a much needed return on our investment or we'll have saved ourselves several months of being 'nice' by pussyfooting around the issue and the player will be returned to sender at the first opportunity. Both parties can cut and run.

There you go, throw that under the bus :D

You may be right but it is a bit premature to say that with certainty. No one in here knows what makes Tanguay tick. Some players wilt under the heat while others thrive send some are in between. Since tanguay is a professional, Jose's comments are ok by me especialy since he gave some embedded compliments, i.e. carrot and the stick.

As an example, moura doesn't strike me as someone who handles a stick well, whereas Dier would.

I am never certain. I'm sure of that much :D
