Worries me how deep. The defenders are and how he keeps all 4 defenders back at the time, very defensive and invites pressure

He’s trying to fix the defense. We keep leaking goals. Better to have the numbers back there. I realize the aim to stop conceding so much is made even more difficult with Gazzaniga in goal but he needs to try something.

But Serge’s positioning is seemingly where ever the fuck he wants to be. And he is decidedly not playing deep.

I don't know what the weather conditions were like at WHL but it was blowing a gale where I live. If it was anything like that I can understand him having a few problems with the flight of the ball. Having said that though, he does sometimes seem to have a few issues in that area.

It is so weird. Have never seen a defender misjudge so many balls in the air. The higher the ball or the bounce, the worse the misjudge. Wasn’t just last night in the wind. Happens a few times every game. Really wonder if there’s not some sort of vision/depth perception issue, although you’d think that sort of thing is fully checked.

There was a moment viewing the game from the North Stand last night where the ball spun back on itself after being kicked out by the keeper to the touch line. Wind was blowing the ball all over the place. Not quite sure last nights game was a good measure of heading ability, but that doesn’t mean Sanchez doesn’t have a problem he needs to work on.

Starting to believe all these reports about Mou wanting another CB and sadly I don't think it's to replace Foyth or Vertonghen. Sanchez gives me so much heartburn and I can only wonder how Mou must feel about him. Against Pool I thought maybe he'd taken a step forward. After that horror show against Boro I'm wondering if it's always going to be a step forward and a step back with Sanchez. I thought he could be properly taught the kind of situational intelligence and composure needed to dominate in the air. It just doesn't seem to be happening. I thought maybe the competition was dragging him down, but I think it's just that he's just a liability in the air, plain and simple, and that liability gets exposed more often against lower level competition. If he can't be relied upon in the middle of a back three to win in the air, then his only role is going to be on the outside of the back three covering the channel and his lack of ball handling ability is unfortunately a big liability in that role as well. I don't think he fits Mou's system and that's a problem.

I take it some of your concerns about Sanchez was last night? I don't know where you live, but the weather was awful last night where I live which is only 20 miles from the ground, and the wind was an absolute horrendous

see it comments like this that make me believe you should stick with American football

we are set up when on the attack to only have 3 at the back, with Aurier more an attacking winger, when they are defending when the oppo are starting from the back Aurier drops back to make a 4, if it's on the counter either the deeper lying midfielder covers the right, while the rest cover the left side until Aurier recovers.

do you honestly believe that he would have been in the team for 2 consecutive games let alone nearly every game under Mourinho if he wasn't doing what he was asked to do?

Aurier is getting game after game due to necessity. We legitimately do not have any other options

I think Mourinho has limited options, that's why Aurier's playing. Doubt he will still be here come the summer. Certainly won't be first choice RB. Even if he was playing right wing and not wing back, he'd still be expected to cover for the kid making his debut behind him. And you could see Mourinho barking at him in the first half v Liverpool to do just that.

he still wouldn't play him if he never told him to do so. I think theres a video somewhere on here stating what he wants when on the attack

That's fair about the weather. And another commenter noted he's only 23. Which is also fair. If it had only been the Boro game that I would be properly criticized for overreacting. But it isn't just the Boro game, is it. How many times have we leaked needless, easy goals from simple flick-ons since our form started plummeting a year and a half ago. I'm not trying to place all of the blame at his feet for that but he has been given ample game and development time since joining up to become the man at the heart of the back line. I'm sorry to say he hasn't been able to meet that expectation yet. To me, he looks out of his depth when isolated against physical strikers in the middle and when the ball is in the air. Against Boro and others. We need to think ruthlessly if we want to fix the defense and all I'm saying is I wouldn't be surprised if Jose really does want to bring in a CB like Dias despite lots of holes elsewhere in the squad. We saw this before with Jose and Eric Bailly.

weird thing is there only seems to be 1 player that I actually know that when he makes a mistake it doesn't get punished is VVD.

So the first additions he’s made to the squad have been Tanganga (20) and Fernandes (21). So much for bringing in old farts.

That said, a lot of his old fart players have retired or are now managing teams against him lol.

Mourinho’s comments about signing a striker in the press conference make me slightly more hopeful we’re looking for a long term solution rather than any old lump these agents are throwing at us...
