That’s always been the thing with Dele, he is a goal threat and produces moments of magic but his general play can be quite average.
Dele, Lucas, and son is a very hit and miss trio to play in one team. Moments of magic but I think they are detrimental to our play as an attacking force when they are off their game. They seem to be 9/10 or 5/10 and nothing in between

I think as we to get the best from them we need more creativity.I think we can get it from Ndombele CM and Lo Celso AM with a good DM behind

Not interested in what the media have to say, you all do it to yourselves if you continue to listen/read what they have to say about Spurs.

As far as everything else goes, I am getting to the stage where nothing is going to change. If Mourinho is already getting to the point where he doesn't feel he is being backed then there is little point to having any expectations about this window and the rest of this season. Beyond that, it's all smoke and mirrors as usual.

Feel the media have really shown their hands towards Mourinho of late. We now have a critical John Cross (of all people) piece to add to the one posted earlier in the thread from Lieuw.

They say fans and chairmen are fickle and not willing to give people time, but these journos seem to be frothing their knickers at any situation that potentially proves he is still the same cantankerous bastard that fucked up at Utd.

You also had the likes of Holt and Delaney bigging up the potential of a 'Mourinho special' before kick off, only to jump all over him as a dinosaur at FT.

It's all a bit like the average football fan whenever VAR starts drawing a line from someone's armpit, shouting disdain from the rooftops. However there's at best a muted applause when VAR correctly overrules a potentially game changing error. So skewed.

Man I really hope he can prove them wrong. I hope once he has more time on the training ground and 11 players he can trust (that are match fit) we have evidence of a front foot philosophy, in this lopsided formation that provided a lot of goals before Xmas. I hope he continues to be intelligent but fair in his pressers as he has been thus far. I hope he is still able to get results from a reactive gameplan on occasions, just to prove that having more than a great plan A has a place in football in 2020.

Have I been indoctrinated by Mourinho into siege mentality already? Gulp.

The liew one is particularly terrible. He’s usually such a good writer but fails 100% to understand anything to do with the club and where we find ourselves at this minute in time. Strange as he’s usually a good writer. I think us sacking Poch on top of appointing Mourinho really has put some in the media’s noses out of joint. All it took was one defensive performance to do it for them to write articles insinuating that’s what it’s been like since he’s been here, which is miles from the truth. It’s laughable really.

It's the same with all the hoofball accusations from our fans as well.

We played very, very similar during the last 18 months with Poch where we regularly bypassed the midfield but the difference was that we used to dick around passing it sideways in the back line before eventually losing the ball in very dangerous areas.

Somehow due to selective memory I guess, fans are now on Mourinhos back after he removed that very dangerous aspect of our play and is trying to make us more direct and effective.

We've also had our own players saying that they're hoofing it due to a lack of confidence and not per Mous instructions.

It's like we sacked Poch for no reason. The club was in a mess when Jose stepped in. He got a very good bounce until the Xmas period hit and the issues he inherited (fitness, confidence, etc...) started to bite. There were no calls of hoofball until around the Wolves game.

We all loved Poch, it had to be really bad for any of us to think he had to go, let alone Levy. We were playing awful in the league for the best part of a year. We didn't sack him at his peak, where Carra said we were 1-2 players away. The issue is that people seem to be implying Jose is responsible for the regression!

Jose is being blamed for problems caused under Poch and especially Levy's watch. How can you expect him to stamp his authority or create a 'new philosophy' on this team with a grand total of around 2 full weeks on the training ground since he arrived? Its madness.

It's ridiculous. They were waiting for it weren't they. Mind you, I think there is a section of the fanbase (not necessarily on SC) that has been too. They cant wait for us, or more likely Mourinho, to fail.

This is only the start of it too. They'll be on at him in press conferences and after matches trying to get the mask to slip. We actually saw the first uttering of it after the press conference on Friday where they tried to make a situation out of him being unhappy with the Kane injury which just wasn't there.

It is definitely a downside of appointing him. We have to go through this kind of nonsense and it won't be anything we have experienced before.

I think the sticking point is whether or not he's adapted his training methods and is willing to delegate. The Mourinho ways with tactical periodisation and thoughts of guided discovery in lack of a better word is somewhat at odds with what the best coaches in the business are doing, where they of course allow freedom, but with lots of predetermined moves and principles. I think Sacramento is more of the latter school.

As long as I see some form of direction and philosohy that's possible to feel will yield good performances and thus results, I'm all for it. Our game must be geared towards getting the ball to our attackers in the best conditions possible as many times as possible, and not on hoping that every tenth hoof bounces off someone favourably.

Football is 90 minutes though and we lost.
Flip the coin and we really could have made a game of it if we'd picked the correct line up from the start.

By the same logic, had we have started with the "correct lineup" and gone one or two down, we would have had nothing to bring on to change the game.

There was a clear, coherent game plan. Keep it as tight and compact as possible, for as long as possible. Run Eriksen and Rose or whoever into the ground then bring on the Argentinians to inject the pressure and tenacity needed at the right time for us to cause them problems. Bar a couple of mistakes at the back and some poor finishing the game plan worked successfully.

Agree with this. I'm no Mourinho fan but I think he got our tactics spot on for this one. Anyone who was expecting us to go toe-to-toe with the best team in the world right now for the whole match without our first choice centre forward, first choice keeper and lack of midfield options is hugely deluded.

Carragher made me laugh out loud when he said that, literally seconds after saying the reason we sacked Poch was that we needed to rebuild the team with 7-8 players. Him and Jamie Redknapp were like the fucking chuckle brothers on Saturday night. Truly awful punditry.

I was very impressed with the tactics at the weekend. For all their possession and dominance Liverpool didn't really look like cutting us open that often and in the second half we could easily have scored one or two ourselves. Picking Tanganga was a masterstroke as well. It was probably totally unexpected by Klopp and you could see at the end of the game that he was relieved to take the three points.

Yep could easily have snaffled a few goals there and the pundits would have been calling for a statue of him outside every stadium in the land.

Klopp's reaction in the post match interview told me everything.

"We were the only team to deserve to win" Whenever a coach says that they are trying to convince themselves (and others) as they know they got away with it.

He really does. I can't remember him being so animated on the touchline for a long time.

They still won. Yes it was the right tactic agreed against a superb Liverpool team but we lost at home again. I was totally behind Poch and could clearly see what direction we wanted to take us but for transfers.

I really hope Mourinho gets it right for our sake and he's... he has the experience lets hope too learnt from past failures (his been hired and sacked in equal measure).

He mentioned the last time off from the game he reflected on the game and a new course since he's got a new right hand. As yet we haven't truly seen a pattern of play that's Mourinho signature ( long ball aside). I'm all for winning football solid at the back and in midfield with a flamboyant attack...for now we need to pick our battles

With the constant games, injuries and suspensions I think it's fair to say Jose hasn't had a chance to work on much on the training ground. He's battling with poor fitness and confidence levels as well as the teams 'lack of footballing identity', which was becoming an issue long before he joined with the infamous diamond. It's why I've found all the articles since Saturday about him being a dinosaur way too hasty, but the media seem very keen on this narrative and will continue to push it until proved otherwise.

We came out in his first set of games with an attacking mindset and scored a hatful of goals, albeit with glaring defensive issues. Let's at least give him until the end of the season and preferably until after a full preseason before confirming either way.
