But we didnt have anyone to hold that type of ball up. Moura and Son are not those kind of players. Perhaps Parrott then? I appreciate they pressed well but all that type of ball did was just give it straight back to them.

I don't think we hoof it that often.

It seemed everytime we had the ball we gave it back to them... at times our poor passing but second half we just hoofed it to the sides and expected Lucas or Son to battle for it.

Better to give it back to them in their own half rather than on the edge of our area.
We aren't good enough to play out from the back, it would be suicidal.

We've been terrible against any decent press for years, it's not going to get better with Dier and Sissoko in midfield. We don't have a consistent deeper midfielder who's good against the press, and most of our attacking midfielders are terrible at receiving the ball under pressure too. Ndombele has shown signs he could be that guy for the deeper role and Le Celso seems good in tight areas, but both have been too hit and miss so far. I'd rather play a few percentage balls that watch us attempt, and fail regularly, to play around teams.

The problem tonight is a lot of occasions they had three narrow between of back four but two holding their width. It caused them to go narrow and leave space out wide. It's a similar thing to what we've been doing and what we always look like we have a free man out wide. It's the four, in front of them that's the problem.

I don't think so - he seemed to be quite transparent about that imo. It was a B team match, in many ways, but I think he should be criticising those who came in for not trying harder.

Oh yea I totally agree mate, I said that in my other post. Jose’s hand was forced and it just shows that if we’re going to okay this 4-2-3-1 style we need a back up big mobile striker and also better quality pacey back-up attacking players although if we had that back up striker then Lucas could’ve played RAM, lo celso CAM and sess LAM like he did so that would’ve worked a lot better for how we want to play.

I agree and I hope you’re right about jose using dier now as he has nothing else but ideally we upgrade in summer

RB back up
CDM
CM
1-2 more paces attacking players
Big Mobile back up striker

5-6 big signings needed
