Interesting, was that the summer we sold Walker? and around the time that his now infamous Sun story came out?
Wonder who pulled the plug on that one.

Levy after reading the posts on SC probably thought nah fukdat.

But seriously though can you imagine selling both our full backs to our rivals in the same summer, would have been absolute carnage.

ha mates told me to go over. He was with all the coaching team. Went and had a meal.
Riggi, im so triggered by you not going over there or shouting come on you spurs to get a reaction. Come on! The potential for some gold content was right there before you

That ain’t me mate haha. I think they all fucked off quick when they saw a load of scummy Essex recruiters holding stellas trying to get a peek...

He looked pretty serious. The barman said he goes there a lot. All quite odd to be honest but hey. He hardly wanted to blend in..

Wearing a tracksuit anywhere other than the training ground or a match is a pretty wild move.

Is the hotel in Fulham by any chance? I saw he pulled that move when he was appointed.

Not sure ive been around there. When i went over there last year for palace away and the manchester derby, we stayed in Fulham(right next to the overground), been around by stamford bridge(and tried to get picked up by an eastern european hooker at a pub by the underground there - apparently chelsea has a brothel pub they all go too lol) and was i guess in the touristy type areas like victoria, trafalgar square etc. i dont know i was drunk the whole time

It was carnage and we only sold Walker...there would've literally been riots if Rose had gone to the chavs.

This is where we've gone wrong. We haven't sold at peak time due to wanting to deter negativity or be seen as a selling club and due to this we've lost out on vital money we could have reinvested.

£55m for Rose, £50m for Dier, we could have got double what we did for Trippier the summer before when his stock was high. How much have we missed out on due to keeping certain players for far too long. Maguire got sold for £80m, we need to take a leaf out of Leicesters book where we couldn't not care less how we are perceived, we just do what's right for the club and know when to stick and when to twist. It ain't a family it's a football club and this is where we've gone wrong.

At the time it would have been disastrous. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. In theory we would have got close to £250m for selling Eriksen and Dele not so long ago. Imagine the response from the support and the football world though! The new stadium would have been torn down!

Also, and this is quite important, given the last few years of recruitment, we’d have just pissed it up the wall on poor purchases. Would have meant no champions league runs ( or possible qualifications ) and certainly no sort of title challenges.

We don't know that for certain. Everyone could see Danny Rose had a ceiling that was 100% the rumoured £55m Chelsea bid, Dier the same at £50m. Dele I stand by is a special talent but Rose and Dier? Are we really saying that we couldn't replace those two more than adequately for the £105m total both were being linked with away?

Sometimes you retain, sometimes you sell. I just feel that there are a few we weren't cute enough with when knowing they'd bring in more financially than they gave us talent wise.

Lol surprised Mourinho wasn’t wearing an Adidas tracksuit as wasn’t on club business at the time! ;-)

Was just reading this article where he’s saying he’s gonna give four of our young players a start again Bayern - good to hear and in particular look forward to seeing Skipp given a game!

Almost half a season is played and those two have completed a bewildering 21 minutes total this season. I think others are trying too hard to come up with line ups that simply are not rooted in even a farfetched version of reality.
Strange argument. Is your argument that it is far fetched to hope that the coach plays tens of millions of pounds worth of exciting, young talent in positions where we are weak?

There may be arguments for preferring other players but your line is off.

In his explanation about Sissoko's best position and why he had to play in the 2 despite Mou knowing that it's not his best position, Jose said "he's not an organiser".

Which sheds a lot of light on to our midfield problems.

It's not just about having a DM, but someone who can organise the shape and bark instructions at the players ahead of, and beside, him, and which is why some of the best captains, and readers, of the game, play this role.

Which also reveals why Jose likes Dier, because Dier has the personality for such an organiser role. Just needs to have more emotional control and mental fortitude.

And why Ndombele and GLC will never start as the 2 cm.

For those who watch the youth teams and the reserves, perhaps can shed light on whether Skippy can live up to this?

Also, worth pointing out that Jose was the one who groomed Mctominay to play in the CM role, and he was the palpable difference (Rashford was up for it of course) as compared to Utd's previous games with Perreira and Fred as the 2 CMs
Exactly this. Mourinho is looking for his leader in centre mid and at the back. All his best teams have had it and all the best prem teams have it, Keane, Toure, Lampard, Kompany, Terry, Adams etc. They are the ones that make the difference and set the tone. We are lacking that, but I think Mourinho sees it in Dier and while he's not the most technically gifted, he will continue using him because of his mentality until he can find a replacement who has both talent and leadership.

Pochettino is a fantastic coach/manager he achieved miracles on a shoes string comparing his budget to his immediate rivals. Mourinho has the trophies nobody can argue he had too the financial backing ... will he get that at Spurs?

Imo it’s a robbery we didn’t get to see Pochettino with more financial backing that was the next phase in his and our development (IMO)
