Not to labour points already made, but I really don't think he'd have taken the job if he didn't believe he could win things with us. Big things.

I agree. As he's intimated in press conferences, he loves winning too much, hates losing too much, to put himself in a bad position

He's said, for a lot longer than it's even been plausible that we'd be looking, that he wouldn't accept a job where the owners didn't share his requirement to win. He's turned down a lot prior to us, too, so there must be a mutual plan for this.

Jose is probably a work in progress. He sounds as If he realized his approach in the past was less them 100% effective. He is probably motivated by both challenge and legacy. So in one sense it may be a marriage of convenience, but that doesn't mean that it is destined to be loveless. Spurs and jose may be perfect for each other at this stage of each of their lives

He needs to restore his reputation. Finishing 4th in the league for 3 years and not winning any cups doesn't do that.

It's also a chance to be the person to finally turn Tottenham into winners, maybe his biggest challenge yet :cautious:

Exactly and I winnered your previous post. I found it extremely arrogant and dismissive from Neville. Carragher was spot on, we've hired Mourinho to get us over the line, although he was wrong about it just being domestic cups. We were in the CL final last season, and Carragher thinks with Mourinho we couldn't get there again? Leiceser won the league a few years ago ffs! with Mourinho in charge and a few astute signings we can definitely challenge for the title.

Liverpool came from nowhere under Klopp to challenge. People like Carragher think the top 2 are a closed shop, its nonsense. Two years ago Liverpool were finishing behind us ffs.

Neville went on a weird rant, like Mourinho had gone to Spurs because he was desperate. Mourinho clearly coveted the Spurs job, and I'm not just saying that as a Spurs fan. London based, CL regulars, very talented squad, world class infrastructure, it's literally one of the most attractive clubs to manage in the world, and because we've been starved of true success for so long, the upside of managing Spurs is fucking massive, bigger than any club in world football. Mourinho isn't stupid, this is a hugely attractive job. Neville is still stuck in the 90s, excellent analyst but his opinions on other manager and clubs is constantly shit. For people like him they just can't process that Spurs are now an elite club.

Well bugger me. You actually can write a post without having a dig at Poch ?

GN’s marriage of convenience... daft and bitter. What else can it be in the context of managers.

Marriage of love....well that was Spurs and Hoddle.

Marriage ordained by the gods....Spurs and Hoddle again.

Anything else is convenience to suit both parties. The fact that this marriage is so perfectly aligned for both sides means it has a great chance of working. GN is worried. That makes it even sweeter.

Spurs are the perennial bridesmaids; the team that never quite makes it over the line.

Jose's legacy will be up there with Sir Alex if he wins us our first league title in 60 odd years.

And he knows it!

Jose has come to Spurs because... he's always wanted to come to Spurs. Since day 1. He just couldn't turn down Chelsea's mad offer all those years ago. Its been a long road but he's finally got his dream. I bet he was pinching himself during that Inter Legends game.

Yiddo.

Love how in the press conference he said his record out our stadium was played 1 won 1. Everyone including me was like "huh?" then he paused a bit and joked "with inter legends".

He has so much confidence and knows how to butter people up when he's on form. Even the journalists, or saying hello to "his" Joe Cole, Crouchy and the Norwich fan presenter in the studio at the start of his interview. You can see why/how he can get the best out of players and that's even before discussing tactics.

I have a theory that Levy has shared something with Jose that isn't yet common knowledge. Naming rights/NFL/Amazon/new owners - dunno, but we know that Levy is pushing the boundaries of what makes a football club, and my instinct is that there is something in there that Jose wants to be part of.

Our 'runway' is so big. The new stadium can give so much. We have NFL games. We have arguably the most followed / biggest name in football management in Mourinho, in Son we have the biggest player in Asia (surely due a pay rise and a new 5 year contract?), in Kane we have England's captain and arguably the best #9 in the world. Our profits, with the increased capacity and extra spend in the stadium on food and beverages, will be massive and that is not inc. the NFL games, potential naming rights and sponsorship (we haven't even sold sleeve space sponsorship yet - surely this is waiting for the stadium naming rights to be sorted), and all the extra events we can stage. Imagine if we became the home for an NFL franchise and someone like Visa or Nike rocked up with a mega naming rights deal. Super complicated I know, but I bet it would make us the richest club in the world. As I say - we have a massive runway. Those funds will allow us to sustainably buy the best players, pay the best coaches, etc. COYS!

This is a great post. Our potential is massive but it's also a massive 2 years. Can't afford to mess this up & waste the opportunity. As much as there are lots of external factors/opportunities that can make enic lots of money I still think the key is a successful Tottenham & pretty confident Levy thinks this too. Which is probably why he had to pull the trigger on Poch
