Mourinho knows how to build a team / squad for sure. He also knows how to get into players heads and instil a winning mentality, and be streetwise. But his coaching and tactics are not top tier any more and appear outdated. That is the main problem. Hopefully Sacramento lives up to his billing as a progressive coach and he starts having more influence. Or alternatively, putting top tier players like Son, Kane and Bale in a front three and letting them do their thing negates the need for too many offensive tactics. But we're still a playmaker short of fluidity and penetration. What came first the chicken or the egg movement or the incisive pass? I think a lack of the latter has led to a severe lack of the former, compounding the lack of a playmaker. But get Lo Celso and Ndombele in the team and we have all the creativity we need.

I disagree. Judging by the best performances we've seen under Mourinho, I actually like the tactics I think he would want to play with. I'm wondering if they are making it a bit too complicated or that there is another obstacle in terms of getting the right understanding throughout the squad.

Jose’s got some weapons now. An all-star front three, decent backups for them. Some pace and penetration out wide.

if he can find a CB and a back-up No 9 he will have close to the squad he wants.

Now he’s got to find a way to get this team playing post-Eriksen. To me, the team itself was struggling with two things last season. One was the CL final loss, which sucked the zest out of a lot of players, and secondly the reliance on Eriksen to conduct the side. We still haven’t really put in a real performance of note without him, and it’s a mental barrier that other players need to take responsibility for.

Maybe we go for a faux-Liverpool style and try and use our new fullback as wide creators, let the front three loose and use midfield as base to operate from.
All true but once we sign the ST and possibly another CB then all we need is lo celso to stay fit and ndombele to get fit to play regularly 90mins at a top top level of performance otherwise we also need to buy another creative CM because Son Bale and Kane won’t score any goals not getting the ball.

Very exciting and rebuild is looking amazing once Bale and Regulion are done (also two more winners to the squad, Bale has won it all and Regulion has won the Europa league)

And Wanyama for me. Without the respective qualities of him and Dembele, we've always struggled for any control with 2 in CM. I'd have personally preferred a more conventional 'destroyer' type DM than Hojbjerg, or at least how Hojbjerg has been deployed so far. I think for now 433 or something else that doesn't rely on a pivot is the way forward for us and have been saying so for nearly 2 years now.
Dembele in particular was a massive loss because he gave our midfield control and greatly limited the amount of shots our defence faced, which has jumped up ever since he left. But we still put in good performances when he was here and injured, even when Eriksen was here and off form or out the team couldn’t find any fluency or way of reliably creating chances.

The best thing about Dembele was that he never looked like he needed any help. He could hold off opponents like nobody else which allowed the rest to find spaces and angles. It never seemed the least bit likely he'd lose the ball once he had it at his feet. Unique player.

Its Dembele who has been the biggest loss.

He totally enabled that system because he could literally do everything himself in midfield. Like when we played years back with Dier as DM dropping in between the CB's when we had the ball so we had a back three, that left Dembele literally on his own in the middle of the park. And he still bossed it.

Hopefully because Hojberg really seems to have a brain on his shoulders he can adapt his game to be more of a screening midfielder rather than a go get 'em ball winning one, that way freeing up both the full backs.

Yes agreed. He was an incredible all round midfielder and for me our best player.

You can see how good he was because after he left everyone else looked worse. He was carrying a lot of them.

I think that said he did need someone like Eriksen around him. The two of them were great.

Gut feeling is that Kane will be off to Real Madrid next season.

Don't see why they are helping us when they blocked Bale's China move but maybe I'm too cynical.

Real don’t want Kane. They are obsessed with Mbappe and he’ll have one year on his deal next summer.

For Kane to put himself back in the shop window for a Real type move, he needs a massive season for us stats wise...a massive season for us gets us in the top 4 or a trophy or both.

I am too just really curious as to how Jose will play. With the signing of Bale, everyone is mentioning how good a front 3 of Kane, Son and Bale would be in a 4-4-3, but I just really hope Jose doesn't persist with what he has been so far with the 4-2-3-1 and have Dele in there....

I think we need a change of shape and approach even more or as much as an upgrade of personal.

They blocked the china move as they wanted a fee like they were offered for Rodriguez

They've changed their tune because Zidane won't play him at all and bale has pretty said he is happy to not play and pick up a check every week

I like the team they put on sky with 3 CB's,, doc and reg as wing backs. PEH and lo celso and a front 3 of kane, bale and son. On paper that looks good.
