I think hes choosing the tactics due to the personnel available..

We cant overpress due to the lack of bodies out top...

Our forwards apart from "ice ice" stevie dont seem to have to strength to hold off opposing cbs and are better running at

We dont have that specialist dm to win the ball back immediately

Gio is the only one in the mf who can take on the ball and beat a man consistently

Ndombele can only last 20-30mins atm

Only tactics he can play atm are keeping it tight at the back going quickly on the counter with our pace and then going for the jugular with ndombele on during the last 30 when the oppostion tires

Not the most aesthetically pleasing way of playing.. but certainly the most effective
:)

In addtion to this, im sure that this is an audtion of sorts for the players..he'll be ruthless and get rid of the players that arent a good fit of the system or give him their all in the summer

That was OK to start with when he was using Dier in CM and we had Kane up front. We now have Lo Celso, Winks, Gedson and sometimes Ndombele for CM who are all good passers and yet we're still launching bombs from the back without a target man or hold up player. He has to change the way we're playing and compensate for missing players. We need to get the ball down on the deck and play some football.

The Guardian have been nitpicking Mourinho since he joined us. Usually they run with an emotive headline that sounds like Mourinho has said or done something outrageous, but when you track through the article, you soon realise what’s been written isn’t true, or it’s exaggerated or just obvious bias

I mean, welcome to sports journalism.

He had a bad game he got subbed if that's going to destroy his confidence maybe he should take up crochet instead.

True , but this is a contrast to managerial Presser norms . Poch was v careful to emphasise the collective .Singling out a player like this is unusual .

Jose is an exceptional manager and I agree with him re Dele...but I also agree with the writer that this is a bold move which could backfire .

It may be brilliant man-management too , lets hope so eh .

Well the collective approach never got the best out of Dele come the end of Poch's reign, so maybe its time for the 'kick up the arse' approach and see what reaction that gets.

Winning football matches entertains me, however it's done, and we've hired one of the best managers in the world at doing that. I'm hoping that's what Tottenham becomes all about.
Exactly this.
And while our football may not always be pretty, I haven't enjoyed our victories like I have recently, for some time.

It had got to a stage previously where I wasn't that emotionally invested in us - in that I just didn't seem to get so excited about us scoring.
Jose seems to have put the fire back in my belly as I realised that I've got a lot more 'shouty' in the pub again. Proper jumping up celebrating, shouting and fist pumping!

I hadn't even realised that I'd kinda stopped doing that.
Maybe the dire football (and results) over the previous year or so had dampened my spirits without me even noticing?

Not really.
It perhaps refreshes the parts
other results can't reach
but entertains?
Satisfies, encourages maybe
but entertains?
It's mainly anti football
and to clutch at it
as entertaining
is an admission
of how far we've fallen
and failed our fans

Entertaining
no matter how un-entertaining
is nonsensical
and I hope
we are not
just reduced to that

I’ve heard some utter shit over the last few days. Certainly seems to be agenda against him in the media for whatever reason.

Apparently he’s yesterday’s man, changed our style to boring football, hanging all the players out to dry and not giving youth a chance ( based on Parrott )

Yep, because the previous 12 months was full of free flowing entertaining football, with a progressive tactical approach, a happy family within the dressing room and the side was littered with fresh out of the academy homegrown stars.

In reality, we were pretty awful to watch in the 12 months prior to Jose arriving, often tactically outthought ( diamond in midfield anyone? ) absolute wronguns like Danny Rose and Eriksen having too much input within the dressing room and no real sniff of a youth player making his mark ( Japhet is now doing that...under the youth hating Jose )

It’s by no means all rosey but it’s such a load of tired old cliche bollocks. People actually get paid money to arrive at such conclusions? Guess it’ll make it all the sweeter when they eat humble pie next season ‘IF’ Jose is given what he wants by the club.

Im all for that as well.. problem is lucas and sonny couldnt hold off the defenders with the ball on the deck resulting in a swift counter attack .

I saw glimpses of lucas or deli coming short and playing a 1-2 into space. Hopefully thats in the works :)

Problem is we dont have that commanding person in mf or def to take the ball off em.

Perhaps an extra helping of dark arts classes may help in the summer.

I just feel that our players are too nice.. leipzig were cynical as hell in the first half

Any coach who had to rely on a squad of geriatrics would have been challenged. It would be interesting to see how Hoddle would fair managing this squad.
At 26 Spurs have the 5th youngest squad in the Premiership
(and all the latest recruits are 23 or under: Bergstijn, Sess, Ndombele, Lo Celso. Fernandes + Jack Clarke still on loan

I think this is what people are struggling to realise. A large part of our much discussed rebuild has already been done. Sure, there are a few more still to move on but it's now about settling in the new players and them all learning how to play together and to the managers instruction which is the bit that takes time.

I believe we will be in a good position for next season assuming we can finish the rebuild in the summer.

You've been around long enough to see us win things, Jimmy, and big things at that - FA Cups, UEFA Cups, and maybe the League?. With the exception of the 1999 and 2008 League Cups, I haven't. Beggars can't be choosers: I just want to see us win trophies and once we've got a few more of them under our belt, maybe then I'll feel like the style of football we play to do so matters to me.

Yes true
but we won things in style
as Danny Blanchflower said:
"The great fallacy is that the game is first and last about winning.
It is nothing of the kind.
The game is about glory, it is about doing things in style and with a flourish,
about going out and beating the other lot, not waiting for them to die of boredom."

Playing well over the long term is more effective than playing poorly and wining sometimes.

He finally picks a decent midfield then takes Alli out to play a flat 5 at the back. When anyone looks to play forward, they will see something like 3 v 6. For the second game running, Jose has invited the opposition to poke at our flimsy defence.

the two Belgians were absolute dogs hit on the goal.

where’s the equaliser coming from? It’s have to be something like the corner or freak Tang effort
