i would say if you dominate possession high up the pitch and plan to keep the ball as much as possible, 3 at the back is not needed as the centre backs usually won't be touching the ball. At least from watching how celtic played 3 would be wasting a player who could be higher up and controlling the midfield.I found Ange's reply about formations interesting as I still can't shake the nagging feeling that right now we would benefit from playing a version of 3 at the back
Yes yes I know people hate it and yes I know he probably won't but when I look at our players I can't help but think a 3412 could be sensational.
We have some amazing wingbacks, now we have Maddison who would play in the hole behind Kane and Sonny , it would be lethal and doesn't need to be the turgid defence obsessed rubbish that Conte served up.
I know it won't happen but it's something I would like considered.
