Genuine question, why is it different at Spurs than other top 6 clubs?

Every player making a step up is getting a salary increase and nicer facilities.

I don’t know. But it is. And I’d wager a guess it comes from the top. I could of course be wrong.

Kids need opportunity. Today , we should have atleast brought on Bergvall in final 15 minutes. What good is another forward like Werner when there is no midfield. Son dropping down to midfield was hardly going to work

I hope he get the games now and push likes of Maddison.
I think that’s an unrealistic expectation. Today wasn’t the day for blooding untested youngsters like Bergvall. Gray at a push maybe, Odobert too.

I also think it’s unrealistic to think he’ll be pushing Maddison for starts this season.

People need to get real.

Oh so no one has said that then and you've just made it up.
@Donki you're laughing at this but I've just gone back over the last 10 or so pages and no one has said they want Jose or Conte back, so yes you did make it up.

There have been a few including myself who have said there are similarities between now and then but that is not the same thing at all as "wanting either of them back"

I wasn't in here for the match and didn't see the game as a negative.

But have since seen some reaction that has dumbfounded me...

Ange got me actually enjoying watching us play again after 5+ years ago so he gets at least the rest of the season for me.

One thing I would like to see is younger players get more time in positions that we are not doing well in.
CM/WF.

We've seen what those established in CM/WF can do and it (apparently) isn't much.

I'm hoping for some stand out performances in midweek to give Ange a nudge...

I think it's easy to blame Ange, his stubborn persistence with the formation and patterns of play etc but so far this season, in my opinion we have drew when we should have won, won when we deserved to, lost to Newcastle when we should have won and then today we deserved something.

Although I am a massive fan of Romero, his errors have really cost us this season and on form Draguson probably deserves a run of games.
I think Romero is the type to fight like mad to get his place back and we would see him back to his imperious best of we dropped him.

I'm Ange in- I can't see any alternative- but the facts are that the trajectory of the last 32 games places us around 9th or 10th. Unless results improve, to give us at least a chance of getting European football, Ange will be dispensed with, I'm afraid.
Not sure, maybe the club have decided to invest in Ange and give him long term backing. This cycle of changing managers hasn’t worked and needs to stop

I think I’m the movies they would call that

Nailed it tbh

Did he? Literally 2 of the players he mentions in the "Give me" list were from Leeds, one was from Derby and the another from a West Ham team that had just been relegated and then says "we sign players from bournmouth Burnley Leeds and Forest then expect championship results".

It's typical O'hara dumb post.

I zone out on the transfer nonsense mostly over the summer, but if those were the priority targets then doesn't exactly fill me with confidence.

Pedro Neto I've never been that high on, and to my eye test has always looked more like a counter-attacking dribbler/ball carrier who needs space to attack. I think there are question marks about his effectiveness against bus parkers and where his space is condensed. Be interesting to see how he does at Chelsea.

Eze I'd have considered a puzzling signing. He isn't a winger, he is a left half-space player. The same as Maddison. People can argue competition for places/squad depth, but Maddison is clearly an integral part of the team so a big signing on someone who wants to play the same role I don't see the logic. Really a player for the other side in the centre/right channel, maybe a left footer like Kulu/Lo Celso, I could have understood.

I agree with the gist about who we target etc. and that they seem to have to have certain strings attached. Certain wage level, mustn't do all the transfer budget on it, the club have to deem it a good opportunity/bargain, working with certain agents, etc etc etc.

I would say as well I don't think we have to target elite players/talents, but skillsets more akin to the football we want to play would help I suspect, even if it's only a short term solution. Kyogo and Hatate for example at Celtic, two lovely footballers who would know the tactics immediately and would have been gettable you imagine. Even if after a year or so they weren't quite good enough for very top tier PL and you looked to upgrade, I suspect they might have helped bed in the style and provided some needed attributes. Marcus Edwards is another, I don't personally think he would be good enough ultimately and doesn't work very hard, but then neither do a lot of our attacking players. He'd be a free hit for us as a cheap HG player and he would give us characteristics we don't have and can play 1v1 and beat opponents easily. At least having some erratic threat and ability for some wing play, rather than fuck all, on the right flank would have been something at least short term. They're just examples, I'm sure people could give other ones, and fans seem to sniff at signings for the sake of signings, but sometimes you need to fill a hole with characteristics you need.

Those limitations from above don't help, but I'm not liking at all our work in Talent ID and who we're getting and going after. That might be Ange, it might be the recruitment staff, but it needs to be a lot better.
It's a puzzling one cause we seem to get linked to the right kind of player but then that gets talked down.

Or the obvious ones that would be great in the team now that everyone screams for and the club seemingly have no interest in.

I think the younger targets have been exceptional tbh. Gray was my pick for a long time and Bergvall looks special.

But it's that age group above that where I'm struggling.

Johnson was clearly a work in progress but also has big limitations. For the outlay on him, it doesn't make sense.

He's not got exhilarating speed like Lennon to counter balance his lack of technical ability. Nor does he have the crossing ability that makes up for his inability to beat his man.

I think the club are deluding themselves when it comes to Son.

We all love him and he's been a special player for us. But at the same time, he isn't a player you hang your attack on, especially as he is on the wane.

He doesn't retain the ball particularly well, he isn't effective stuck out wide and he needs to be running off players which isn't really our style now.

Like you said, we are a possession team who try to sustain pressure in the opposition's half, that requires highly technical operators.

He’s purely click bate now, liked him as a player, but always came across a bit thick.

We’re only a “possession team” because our opponents are just letting us have the ball with the knowledge that we’re probably not going to threaten them too much.

Arteta was backed by the club. You can tell Ange is not being 100% backed in the same way.

We just need to hope the kids come good, otherwise he is screwed.
What's different to how Ange has been backed? In those first few years, they got rid of high earning under performers, and got in exciting young players and he developed a few youth. They bought 2 prospects in Gabriel and Saliba who were their 2 best players today. When the squad had been shaped they splashed on the game changing signings.
Ange is being backed not only with incomings but also outgoings, the squad is taking shape but like Arsenal we need time. He's only had 3 transfer windows.

Not sure who we could change to and given the players at a new managers disposal the only significant change would be to go five at the back to shore us up but that leaves issues up front with all our wide players

Whats unrealistic here ? Bergvall been pushing Maddison since preseason - so much so that many in this forum wanted him to start our first game.

Unrealistic expectation is if I say, Bergvall should start ahead of Maddison. I didnt say it though.

I was just saying, why drop Son into midfield when bringing on Werner - rather give that minutes to Bergvall who is actual midfielder for the job...

We gave Ryan Mason PL debut away at Emirates. Its not new to play youngsters in NLD. Arsenal gave game time to Nwaneri today.
