Then its down to coaching them better?

It's been the same argument under Jose, under Conte. They all got hounded because they weren't doing enough coaching.

Why should Ange get a free ride? Because we have loads of possession vs what we had under those two?
We badly need more quality in the final third. I'm not sure even Son would start for the other top six sides. Odobert, Werner, Johnson wouldn't.

Because at some point we have to stop the churn and actually back our manager.

The man has got to start tweaking his tactics. Without VDV covering Romero cannot keep picking up these positions in DM when we’re in possession.

It’s on Ange to tell Romero to sit just for this game or any game without VDV.

You are missing the forest if you think Romero doing that is the problem.
We can change players all you want, that nothing will change.
We have top players in every defensive position, but we defend like a league one side
Every player is static and our only defensive tactic is the high line.

If Ange doesn't have the knowledge to train our defence, sign a proper defense coach. It's truly embarasing that we keep playing like this after last season.

so much for a full summer under Ange.

no better organised.
no better at the back.
toothless going forward.
piss weak mentally.
Wanted Neto and Eze and got Odobert. Usual spurs and nothing will change. Think we have to stick with him and hope we can gradually bring in the players he wants.

But in that case, and as has been the case with every single coach we've had for the last decade, make tweaks based on what you have to work with? All we ever seem to do is make subs and hope something happens.

What happened to coaching what we had because he’s better than those two at it? Now it’s “he doesn’t have the right players for his system” which was another argument that got shot down under Jose/Conte but it’s a perfectly reasonable excuse now?

But I guess there’s fans that are happy with 60-70% possession even if we’re doing jack with it.

I used to get quite carried away when we lost but am either mellowing out or am just numb to it. My point is that we are gong to lose matches playing how we do, so i need to get my head around it.

My biggest worry is if Ange has already been found out and the PL is a step too far. Yes these tactics work for U21 and it works in Australia or Japan and even Scotland. But the PL is next level by a long way, and if he cannot adapt tactics mid game we will win a lot of games but also lose a lot of games.

And the suicidal high line and inverted full backs. Ange needs to adapt his tactics asap.
If defenders are switched on and actually doing their jobs it's fine. They had maybe 3 shots on target tops that's not a shakey defense that's individual mistakes.

Posted this in the match thread. Truly awful

"Quite worrying - These are the only teams we've beaten since Villa on 10th March.

Won: Everton, Sheff Utd, Burnley, Forest, Luton."
And iirc the goals we scored against Luton were a massive deflection and an own goal.

That's the big issue here. I think if you give any good manager proper backing, they will most likely do a good job.

The problem is that we keep going into season without addressing major problems in the squad. I'm so depressed at the thought of watching our toothless front line for another season, teams walk through out midfield, and no cover for the left side of defence.

Bloody hell, anyone would think we’d lost 4-0 again.

We should have won that game and probably would have but for some really lazy defending by our vice captain. And some very good saves from Pope.

The truth is though we’ve left ourselves short in the transfer window again. He hasn’t been given the tools needed to challenge for the top four imo, so anything above 8th is a bonus for me this season.

Mate it’s a constant pattern.

Today wasn’t a one off.

The Ange Postecoglou ego project rolls on.

He's going to lose the players, the fans and ultimately his job because we will continue to concede the same goal over and over.

Adapt or die.
If you’re 3 or 4 goals to the good, conceding the odd goal under Big Ange’s ‘entertaining’ system doesn’t really matter

Unfortunately he’s not been given clinical enough tools for his system and that will probably, ultimately cost him

No doubt it’ll be rinse & repeat from our great leader sooner or later

I'm in total agreement with this, absolutely. But he shouldn't be immune to criticism either.

Sitting and watching the same game play out for us, when a team sits back as usual, we can't break them down. No plan B , no pace in the passing, nobody wants to take a chance or a shot, not enough urgency. Its frustrating to watch. But he doesn't make adjustments to change it.

Agree with all that too.

I do not think we are well coached.

Ange has a philosophy, and I generally like the way he wants to play - but the players do not look well-drilled in any specific tactics or specific patterns of play. And, I think it costs us in the attacking end, the defensive end, and in transition.

When you watch "good" teams play - the players all know their role, where to be, where to run, etc. You can see that those tactics/patterns have been drilled into them. We just took like a group where the only instruction is play fast, and push up high. I don't think we press very well as a unit, I don't think we attack very well - other than on a counter, and I don't think we are very organized in defense.

Ange has a big job in front of him - and maybe he does not have all the players he wants, but he has to do better with the players we have.
