Thought we bossed Everton both halves. Never looked in any real danger but just started slow 2nd half. The subs switched things back up again though and having those options on the bench now looks to be the difference. Particularly in regards to the high press, having effective pressers like Richarlsion off the bench is going to inject life into us 2nd half. Still think Johnson will be a more impactful sub option as well as Werner so with Solanke and Odobert we can do that more often.

I’m pro Ange he seems a decent man with none of the bullshit our previous two mangers came with. But and there is a big but, we need to see him get a tune out of the side for 70 plus minutes not the 30 or so we have had since the first ten games last season. The side is talented but switches off to often either at set pieces or when we are on top in a game. I accept we can’t dominate for the whole game in the premiership but we rarely put two consistent halves together in the same game.
We literally just did that to Everton. There was maybe a 5 minute period before halftime where Everton had a string of corners and free kicks, but that was literally it for the whole game, we won 4-0 and Vic had one save to make all game.

It's pretty much impossible for a team to have full control for the entire game in the Premier League. Matches will always ebb and flow.

Like nicdic says above, this is a bizarre post to come out with literally after a game which we dominate for about 80 minutes.

I love the coaching by Ange in this video:

No wonder he is always coughing his voice box has taken a battering over the years from his coaching!

I think we are the best coached since Poch days and once we get the right level of player in arguably better, either way Ange is a top top coach and really suits our club.

love it.

With it looking like our incomings are done for the Summer I think Ange is being asked a lot to finish top 4.

We were very poor for 5 months last season and we've only really added one guaranteed starter to our team.

The younger players we've brought in are exceptional buys and that shouldn't be ignored. I'm hoping that the likes of Gray, Bergvall and Odobert will be first team mainstays as soon as possible, but that's a huge amount to ask of three very young players.

Overall though it has been a transfer window for the future, not for the now, meaning Ange will have his work cut out.

Would be interesting to know if he feels he's been given the resources to meet the targets he's been given. Personally I don't think he has.

Agree. Basically should have double the games this season with a smaller squad with a lot of the experience out the building. He'll end up having to rest key players in the Cups because he doesn't have enough players to compete in all the competitions and the club's priority is obviously to finish in the top 4. Then when we get knocked out of the cups because our squad fundamentally not strong or deep enough, he'll be blamed for not taking them seriously, the murmuring in the fan base will start about his job, he doesn't 'get it' etc etc we've seen this one before #welcomehomemauricio

A top class holding midfielder would have made me feel much more confident.

I can’t see any leaders in the middle who can get hold of a game and set levels.

I disagree it's only a squad for the future. We could field a team with senior, quality, players in most positions. And then a bench full of really promising younger players.

Spence and Grey were both Championship players of the season. Bergvall similarly regarded.

We're probably all over keen for that wordlie signing that will elevate us. But what will elevate us is the ability to change parts without effecting how the team plays.

City themselves regularly avoid signing the best player in a position in favour of just one that has the tools.

I think we're light a gk, but Gunter and Keeley are promising. Spence is the lb cover, Everton game proved that. Grey will be rb cover, and he can also play cb although we all want him to see him at cm.

The only position we're light in is lcb and gk. The rest of the gripes Peele have are about quality, and I think, as fans, we're really poor judges of what signings can offer because so much of what makes signings work is the coaching and system they come into.

I don't think it's only a squad for the future, but equally I don't think it's a squad that I look at and feel confident of top 4.

My real issue is how we've dealt with some of the key problems from last season.

In terms of a striker we've dealt with that. Solanke was a great purchase in a position we needed to strengthen.

But then there's some other key areas.

In terms of attacking creativity we've only added Odobert. Now I think he was a fantastic signing, but he's young and also only one player. If he gets injured or if he hits a bad patch of form, we don't have an alternative.

In midfield we're still very reliant on Bentancur, Bissouma and Sarr, who each have their different issues and none of whom would get into a midfield from the teams above us. Bergvall and Grey give us depth in that area but personally I think we are desperate for a more established player in there. We were going after Gallagher for a reason and we don't seem to have found an alternative.

Left back is a gaping hole if Udogie get's injured or isn't fit. Yes we've got players who 'can play there' but that isn't enough and again isn't something the teams above us would leave to chance.

And whilst a backup keeper is certainly the least of those concerns, it is definitely an issue if Vicario gets injured.

So I love the signings we've made, I really do. And as I said I hope they prove me wrong and slot straight into the first team to help fix the issues above.

But personally I don't think we are favourites for top 4 based on the squads in place and I am assuming that is the target Ange has been set.

That's why I think he's got his work cut out for him.

Can't post in transfer forum but think it's worth people reading what Ange has said re transfers (though no doubt some won't believe a word of it):

I think we are slightly thin at LB but also
In the same breath we can juggle, spence, vdv, Davies (not ideal ) porro (with gray going RB) so we have options: he squad as a whole is stronger than last year.
People saying odobert, gray and berg ail are not 1st team players they are for the future - yes they are for future but they are also for the now.

2 games played and all 3 have played. . (Odobert)

as so many say now this is not a first 11 game it is a first team squad game and they are all key members. Add to that Moore, Lanks and maybe Devine we have more options. Everytime I see berg play I don’t think the standard of our play drops - in the first game when he came on we started dominating again after a lull. When gray comes on I don’t see him as a weak link at all and odobert started last game and did well.
These players will only get stronger and have more influence on the game and will be league starters.
Good window and I think people who argue no strengthening are doing so on their anti levy agenda

My take Ange wanted Neto, Levy hesitated on wages, Chelsea stole a march, Levy seen Chiesa as an opportune cheap big signing, Levy hesitated on wages, Liverpool stole a march, we simply won’t pay for top tier players…

On going theme here, we sign young as they are prepared to accept lower wages and it’s why we never won or will win anything under ENIC, the stadium has changed nothing, and before people start screaming ‘ah but we spent more’, everybody does, the prices are insane now, context! We saw skipp going for almost the same as prime Berbatov, in short if we spent what we used to we’d be relegated so stop comparing apples with oranges.

And this bright future that people have been talking about where we dine at the top table, I thought that was the stadium created that and we had to be patient for the great game changer? We’re long here now but still buying 2nd tier players, it just costs much more to do that…

And for those with their head in the sand, Hercules is talking about ENIC looking for outside investment to help them with… further ‘property development!’ Haha, but that will be the great game changer in another 20 years when ENIC own all of Tottenham, then they’ll show some real ambition, right?!

On topic Ange can’t be happy with this window, there is nothing to suggest we’ll be challenging this season, no way and if the youth do come good, by then we’ll need to replace Son and Romero etc always chasing our tail, never in the moment! Why, football success isn’t why ENIC are here, wake up and smell the coffee people!

My take, ie Opinion! ‘before you throw the toys out of the pram!’
