Why is it daft, the reporters are trying to get a rise out of him, he's rightly shutting them down. I'm all for him not taking reporter bullshit.

To also counter your point about the fire in the belly, I reckon we had plenty on show away at Arsenal, and at home to Chelsea, when we came out absolutely all over them and were a hair away from going 2-0 up. We got two men sent off because they were so hungry.

If that's not passion or a fire in the belly I'm not sure what is.

We started off jittery against Arsenal away but grew into the game and took it to them in the second half, so we showed heart there. Against Chelsea at home, I agree that it was seen there too.

With us there's either no gusto in the players or, when it's there, they lose their heads.

There's something that players of these other clubs have that ours lack. In essence, players of our club should play the way we would had we the skill to make it at this level. We would give absolutely everything. Players of these other clubs have that. Like I've said, it's like they channel the fans. The fans play through them.

I don't expect our players to emulate the knob behaviour of many of the Arsenal and Chelsea players we've seen over the years, but that knob behaviour of theirs shows that they get soaked into the fan mentality. My mind goes to Battle of the Bridge. Chelsea players were giving it large on social media leading up to the game. They were talking like fans would. It riled us up and it worked because it riled up our players too. We could have beaten them that day had we kept cool heads, but they got under our skins and our players wanted to hack down everything on the pitch that didn't wear a white shirt. We had something like 9 yellow card that day. Hazard, one of the trash talkers, came on and scored the equalizer. That really stung and showed the mentality gap the players of these teams have.

Was it Antonio and Wilson who trashed talked one of our players? Knob behaviour, but Antonio becomes a monster when West Ham plays against us. He understands what the game means to the fans. West Ham can have rubbish games for 36 games in the season but as long as they hurt us in the other two games, their fans are somewhat appeased.

Arsenal players are well known for bantering Spurs on the level that their fans do.

Derbies are pressure games because they mean a lot to the fans of the clubs involved. We tend to fade in them, just like we do in any crunch games or games where there's something riding on them. The day we really show up and beat our rivals by being confident, having a swagger, being intelligent bastards (like their players often are), then I'll know that we'll have it in us to replicate that in knock out games and games where we can take the lead or keep the lead in the EPL table.

I agree with this, and I think it feeds in to what he's been saying all season about pursuing the style of play and persisting with the high line with 9 men etc. He wants to create a winning team and that's the bottom line to everything he does.

There have been a few people saying Ange has blown things out of proportion, whereas I think he has simply tried to be plain-spoken about things. He wants to build a winning team, and part of that is to have everybody at the club pulling in the same direction. If that means we focus on Spurs and forget about which teams are where in the league, then so be it.

Personally I like the fact that he has been wound up by the slightest suggestion that people around the club want us to lose a game. I wouldn't want him to have any other kind of focus.

i agree with ange's overview but he's blown this up into something it didn't need to be. the line about needing to effectively rip everything up and start again is a complete overreaction and palming blame off onto the supporters is not on. it's not the fans' fault we put in a pathetic display at fulham, it wasn't the fans fault we got embarrassed by newcastle, it wasn't the fans fault we found ourselves 3-0 down at home to arsenal and the limp performance at chelsea wasn't on us either.

for the record i love ange and would give him the entirety of his contract regardless of what happens but whilst i like his fire, i don't think that was the smartest play by him the other night.
