Anyone thinking Brennan Johnson isn't a major part of the solution going forward is miles off. He's not a development player, he's a major signing and one I expect Ange intends to have central to his plans.

The idea that we'll just sign better players wholesale - replacing a very recent 47 million one no less - and all will then work out fine is unbelievably naïve.

I agree he’s seen as a mainstay, but he’s quite poor. It’s painful we spent that much on him. Hundreds of better options for 47m or less. A few nice crosses to Richi isn’t worth that fee

IMO you have to be fucking unhinged to want Ange to be sacked. Either that or beset with severe memory issues.

Look. I get the ‘we can’t keep changing manager’ view.

But to call people unhinged for asking questions is arrogant and childish.

We are horrible, have been since November, and get worse each week.

How is it unhinged to question the guy?

I’d turn it around and say you’re unhinged for saying such a thing.

Like what are you seeing? We are in relegation form since January

I'm so tired of hearing that manager X doesn't have his players therefore we can't judge him yet. Conte, Mourinho, Nuno Esperito, Ange......blooming hell.

Unai Emery joined Villa in November 2022 they were 17th or in the relegation zone..... he got them to 7th...." without his players" in his 2nd season he has them in 4th.

Any manager worth his salt works with what he has and makes tweaks along the way to the playing personnel.

We have been a shambles okay maybe a tad strong saying shambles but a team devoid of a plan B in EVERy game amd that's on the manager.

He plays a highline and has a keeper who doesn't command his box. Good reflexes and no more. Sent Reguilon away for another loan spell when he could have been used here.

He Is resistant to using our academy .... so many of our problems come back to Ange and his coaching team. A band of merry brothers.

I'm.not saying he should be sacked..... but let's not defend him blindly. he gets 5th and I'm okay with it... it's slight progress on last year I predicted 8th to 9th at the beginning of the season and even when we were 1st on October I still thought it to be a false position
Great post, spot on

False. If the table started 1st Jan we’d be 9th and we’d have 1/2 games in hand on most teams above us.

We just played Liverpool (who've been in a title race all season), Chelsea (who are on crazy form right now) and Arsenal (still in the title race for this season) in the space of a week.

I get we've lost more than just those games but some context here is needed too.

Agree.

Before the Newcastle match, we won 3, drew 1 and lost 1 of the previous 5. And in the 10 matches before Newcastle, we won 6, drew 2 and lost 2. The wheels have come off since the Newcastle match, but it also looks worse because we have had a series of tough matches clumped together.

We usually lose away to Liverpool and Chelsea. In the last 10 away matches against those teams (ie. the last 5 v Chelsea and 5 v Liverpool) we have achieved just 3 points. So, in most seasons we're lucky if we get as much as a single point from those two matches. That's a Spurs thing, not an Ange thing. If those matches were spread out over the season, losing them both would be nothing remarkable for us.

We usually do better at home against Arsenal but this is the best Arsenal team for a long time. It's arguably their best team in twenty years. There's every chance they will finish the season with 90 points or more. The only time they have ever finished on as much as 90 points in the Premier League was the "invincibles" season in 2003/04. So losing to them is no great disgrace. They have also beaten Man C, Liverpool, Newcastle and Chelsea this season.

Let’s see what the Summer brings, Ange needs to be backed sufficiently.
If he’s not, then he needs to adapt his style of play.

The form table has us 7th since the start of January. Not good enough, but the ‘relegation form’ is very hyperbolic.

I have no doubt ange is here for the long term. I think he’s a winner, and he’s not going to let one season break him. I do think however seeing him be ruthless and clear out a bunch of players that isnt working in his system.

I honestly don’t think Kulu works for example, Bissouma is not a Declan Rice or Rodri type player, which is what we need in the middle to cover our defenders. These are by far the two biggest weaknesses I see in this team, so let’s see what happens in the summer.

The only thing I would like to see him doing differently now that the season is almost over is to faze out the players with no future here and start playing some of the youth who have performed so well this season and clearly have a future at the club. Donley, Lankshear, Moore etc deserve minutes over the players about to be put up for sale, as a fan I'd rather see them.

You know what I mean.

Not really. We're 10 points better off than Luton and Everton since January, and we have played fewer matches than Luton. So it's not even close to relegation form. We're only 4 points worse off than Aston Villa. To say we're in relegation form is just hyperbolic.

Fulham, Palace, Wolves, Brentford, Brighton, West Ham, Everton, Forest (+ the bottom 3) would all be below us if the table started Jan 1st.

This is why it’s called Premier league. It’s tough and big boys play in it.

“Wait til next summer” should replace “to dare is to do”.

if I could be arsed I’d translate it into Latin. But I can’t.

I respect his dedication to his principles massively. He clearly wants to make it work more than anything and will try absolutely everything - hence why i'm still backing him
