We definitely do but even the most optimistic of us here have to accept that anybody expecting us to start picking up points tonight is probably being a bit harsh considering our history against Arsenal at their place. I'm certainly hoping we get a result tonight but if we don't i'll personally not be using that result as one to bash Ange with.

Trouble is, we’ve dropped so many points in winnable games that they’ve brought it on themselves that they have to win some hard ones.

Just watching Sky preview the NLD.

I mean this is why some of us think there is a negative bias towards Spurs.

They literally open with Arsenal's injury problems and don't mention ours once in the whole preview.

I mean it's incredible, given we've three times the amount of injuries.
Yeah that is typical and if they win it will be proclaimed as a huge victory due to them being so impacted by injuries whereas it will barely be mentioned for us whether we win or lose.

Bizarre, so many seem to given him a pass for today due to injuries and our record at the stadium.
If he gets credit for the win then surely some fault if we lose too.
Hoping he is able to motivate the team better than the last game and grab us some points!

It would be so good to send lego head and those cheating fucks a messge today.
COYS

Arsenal have key players out/not fully fit tonight, so I am not sure why Ange would be getting a pass either.

Can't help look at last nights result at Chelsea, Bournemouth had a load of injuries and still managed a victory, after being behind as well.

It was a draw. Still a good result though.

I don’t care what Tottenham manager it is. Hoddle, Ossie or Big Ange. You never get a free oasss against the scum. I expect a performance and us to match them in every area. It’s the biggest league game of the year. I hate them, hate them, hate them.

In the wider context I’ve seen some very well written impassioned posts defending the manager and showing incredulity that anyone might not. I maintain that had this manager been from Burnley he would be getting nowhere near this backing and the charisma and backstory plays a massive role in why some are so loyal towards him.

I’d say to these people who insist it’s just time and patience he needs that it maybe true but if you don’t have faith in him having that ability, time and patience is about as useful as a common cold. To people that don’t agree with you all time and patience achieves is delaying the inevitable.

I personally sit somewhere in between. I like him as a man, I like his passion and principles and think when he has all the tools he can get a side performing brilliantly. However I don’t think he is tactically great . When talking about pragmatism I don’t think it means be defensive, I think it means getting the best out of what you have. Take Sunday for instance (this is ridiculous he should make tactical tweaks for against part timers but an example). He plays reggillion and still inverts him. Last time I checked , having high inverted full backs isn’t a prerequisite of playing attacking football? The system is exposing our midfielders, making Son look finished and the intensity just doesn’t look sustainable either in this league or more likely with the squad he has and seems to want in terms of numbers. In regards to Sonny in find it odd that he is playing him there . I am reading the “Ange's style of football” book now and it says Ange always thought Sonny was miscast as a winger and would be better more centrally , closer to goal.

im glad the club are addressing the injury issues but for me to think this is going to work I need to see a shift in the transfer policy. A bigger squad with more quality and different profiles of players is needed. If he is so wedded to this 433 with high inverted full backs we need much better technical quality and far better cover right across the squad . It concerns me Ange talks about blocking pathways because that’s all well and good but I don’t care how nice he is , this league position is totally unacceptable.

edit - I have seen the forum has edited the name of the book. In case it reads weirdly, it’s the one by Vince Rugari. I’d highly recommend it.

I also expect a performance, and to match them for effort. You can't ignore the injuries and squad make up though so if the result isn't a good one, he will still get a thumbs up from me as long as the effort is matched and the game plan is sound.

Two big takeaways from that - he is adamant we need 'help' for Solanke. I guess that was Kolo Muani.

And we have the best defensive record away from home in the entire league. News to me!
There are quite a lot of positives that have gone unnoticed due to results I imagine.

The flip of that though is that we have shown the same issues irrespective of injuries. I’m sure more would be made of the injuries if all of a sudden we had a massive drop in form since they occurred. Reality is that the same issues have been there for well over 12 months. It’s an extension to the point Trix keeps making. No-one thinks we should change manager based on a single result, no-one wants him to do anything other than succeed, it’s the persistence of issues over time that causes concern and is partly why our injuries aren’t mentioned as the causation of our form. That aren’t the reason, they are just an extenuating factor.

Hope he delivers a tactical masterclass tonight we need the result badly

I think that this is missing a little context. The whole blueprint to beating us is to sit back and watch us huff and puff and then hit us on the break. In games such as Forest and Palace, once they got the goal ahead they didnt need to go chasing more goals. There have also been games where the opposition XG compared to the actual goals were actually massively skewed - see Bournemouth.

Such a massive game, not buying these poor gooners have injuries rhetoric from certain sections of the footballing press: absolute piss takes.

Reminds me of the ‘young guns’ excuses made by them lot and the press, especially in that 2008 League Cup Semi Final second leg at the Lane. I was so lucky to be there in the Paxton that night, the place erupted and I remember kids after the game climbing up lampposts on the High Road!

Being rational looking back at the past few months has been (using a cricket term) a sticky wicket for Ange.

Like a few I’ve just been thinking here we go again especially with the way Levy operates and have grown sceptical on how he can sanely operate the squad through this mess of injuries we’re in.

If Ange can somehow get a result at the Emirates honestly hats off, that alone will surely galvanise the fans as well as inject confidence into the squad. With our injury crisis, not Woolwich’s, that would be legendary and my scepticism can be put back in its box.

This could be a very significant game, with them lot growing more sceptical of Arteta, us beating them would most definitely increase the pressure over there and have a long term impact. Hopefully it could sow a seed or two. 🙏

I know it’s been yet another mind f*** of a season but we are long overdue a win in this fixture especially at their ground. Always the same with Spurs, when you don’t expect it somehow we do it. COYS!!!

VDV, Romero and Vicario all played in the awful results against Palace and Brighton - while only VdV missed Ipswich. I judge Ange on his entire time with us. The recent injuries appear to have bought Ange time and some have forgot how poor we were even before we lost some of our back 5.
Interesting that some disagreed with this, although it’s a fact that these guys did play those games and we lost them all…

Was just making the point though, in the context of this game, they're straight in talking about their injuries and don't mention ours.

Yes we've been inconsistent regardless of injuries, but if anything it's quite impressive that we've haven't actually completely crumbled given the extent of them.

I mean can you imagine Arsenal without Raya, Saliba and Gabriel for months....we'd never hear the end of, and they'd be nowhere near the top.

The hope for us, despite the inconsistency, is that Ange is still moulding our style and working with the group in terms of long term improvement.

When players return, maybe we've more of a solid platform to kick on from this time.

Its certainly a massive month or two coming up in Ange's tenure and I'm backing him to come through it and kick on.

To be fair, our defence hasn't been the issue this season, it's been our weak midfield and toothless attack.
