Postecoglou: We're moving on without Harry

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou:

"It’s fair to say I don’t have a blow by blow account of the whole thing. But it’s progressed o the point where it’s going to happen and that’s all the information I have at the moment. From that perspective, it gives us some clarity, unless something unforeseen happens, that we move on without Harry.

"I don’t have feelings in terms of needing anything, it’s bout understanding where we are at. The information I have that the deal is imminent. Until it happens, you leave a bit of lee way for yourself. But training today and preparing for Brentford, we’re moving on without Harry. "

"I don’t think there’s a like-for-like replacement for Harry, mate. We’ve been planning for this for a while. It doesn’t take too much investigative work to realise this was going to happen. We were planning for it to happen. This doesn’t change things dramatically from what we are trying to build. There is movement in the squad. Some players will seek opportunities elsewhere, there are still three weeks to go in the window. That’s not because Harry’s gone, that’s always been in the plan.

[Is there a list to replace him?] "It doesn’t work that way, mate. It’s not my wife handing me a shopping list to get bread and milk for the kids. We knew it was coming. From our perspective, we are preparing for Brentford. There won’t be anyone incoming between now and Sunday. "

"I had conversations with Harry the first day I arrived, he was up front and honest and I was the same. You kind of get an indication that he had made up his mind that if the clubs agreed, then he would go."

In a way this is good news. It will hopefully have been less of a disruption to both our recruitment and generally our work on the training ground (though a disruption all the same) if we've been planning for this inevitability since day one.

Well I feel better that at least he's been kept in the loop by both the club, and by Kane, and that this isn't some massive surprise.

One thing levy got right is appointing this man. We already have a much stronger squad balance all round then last season, and now have an extra 120m to spend it seems.

I’m excited for his tenure.

I shouldn't be this impressed with someone just giving straightforward answers but here we are.

Quite comforting to know they have been working as a squad under the impression he was always going to leave, means Maddison signed knowing this too.

I believe this is, as the kids say, copium.

Good interview. Refreshing getting everything to the point. Don’t see how planning for life without Kane correlates to him being captain and starting over richarlison for the whole of pre season though
