Brighton have nothing like the expectations we have. They're more than happy challenging for Europe. We've qualified for Europe all but 1 season in about 17 years. We've also developed far bigger talent than they have. The issue we have is the fans want more now. Will Brighton ever get tired of challenging for Europe? Given their number of fans and stadium capacity I would say they wouldn't. The best they could do is qualify for CL one season or win a cup but both are unlikely. After that it will only be downwards so they need to enjoy this era they have right now while it lasts. They're a well run club but so are we, it's just at a higher end of the financial spectrum. That means we demand more.

That’s how they want to play. A friend of mine (palace fan) told me they were lightning on the break.

I agree with your post underneath this one but I don't agree with the second half of this one at all.
It's the Spurs way and has been since Bill Nic and if you don't like that sort of thing, you're supporting the wrong club.

It's about going out there and winning in style, not about boring the opposition (and fans) to death.
That's supposed to be the DNA of this club.
Of course he didn't mean that he's happy to entertain and lose but football should be enjoyable for the fans, it's our escape from life and Ange seems very big on that sort of thing.

Personally, I enjoyed yesterday's game and a draw isn't a bad result in the grand scheme of things.
Just add that the double winning team were so exiting to watch when on real form.

And in all the other transfer windows? We're the 8th or 10th richest club in the world. They're about 29th, above us in the league and perhaps not that different to us in terms of ability level and consistency of performance. But perhaps we should all lower our expectations...again!
Just because we are the 8th-10th richest in the world means FA if the owners don't invest in the football side more so than their overall profits.
Busy building here there and everywhere they can to increase their own profit not for the footballing side of the club.
yes they built a new stadium that they can earn from irrespective of the football. As long as we're in the top part of the league then the monies coming in.

OH sorry thought this was the reason why we are where we are and will be for the rest of my lifetime. BUT I'm lucky because I've seen us win league, cups etc that many a younger supporter might never do.

The football authorities and our owners have put us in this situation.

You can't have a serious lack of depth in key areas, play intensely, play twice a week and have players jetting off for internationals every month and expect consistent performances.

We had a huge win against City but even that would have taken something out of the players, we've followed that up with a very difficult tie against a decent Roma side and 2 and half days later play a very resolute and hard working Fulham team.

You can't expect us to be beating teams well and playing well game after game, it's just not realistic

Copying this over from the Fulham match thread before it all kicks off here after the game. Result dependent but I'm sure that first half will have people licking their lips

It’s seems to be two steps forward and one back with ange and his subs. Thought it was a clear mistake to wait until they equalised to make a change today, let the scoreline dictate rather than the performance

We might fluke a cup this year, but we're not going to challenge at the top of the table with him. If he's gone in the summer I won't be disappointed.

I know we've got a few injuries, but I really think Ange needs to tweak our playstyle in some games.

It's just not sustainable to keep this up across a whole season.

They all look dead on their feet.

I hate to make a comparison to them lot down the road... but they're playing 3 games a week too, and are still battering teams with minimal squad rotation.

With all these injuries he has to play more of the kids. We don't have enough fit, senior pros available to take two competitions seriously this year. If they make mistakes and we lose, well that's on the club for taking the youth route.

I saw bodies out there who were fckd at the start of the second half. Yet, he still makes no changes- even after we somehow get our noses in front.

Then he fails to bring Will on when Cairney sees red. Wtf?

No one to cross it to? Even put Dragon up there?

FFS.

Really poor from Ange today

He literally said in the last presser that he doesn't care about control, but the teams that have the most control in this league seem to be able to manage their games a lot better.

They don't play an intense high pressing game like we do, they don't look to dominate games the way we do either. They've also just gotten players back from injury and theyve spent close to a billion on their whole squad. Over nearly 6 years.

People are too quick to just label them as "boring and defensive" IMO. They were gung ho in the first season that they looked transformed a couple of years ago and Arteta realised he needed to tone it down a bit and control in a less demanding manner for it to be sustainable over a whole season.

The issue we have is what the fans want now? That's not the fkin issue at all.

The issue is the lack of ready made quality in the squad, like it is every season. And the usual dollop of back luck with injuries that shows this up.
