I see a few folks calling for him to be sacked or give him the season and most likely sack him after that. I think my question is who would be the next man up, if that happened? Thomas Frank? Meh. Marco Silva? Meh x2. We missed the boat on Slot, Amorim, etc. Iraola could be intriguing.

I think that’s my fear; that the grass is not greener (we’ve learned this numerous times over the past few seasons) and I’m kind of struggling to see an obvious upgrade on Ange. It’s a genuine question in regards to who comes next, because I really have no clue.

Few interesting bits in this. Pleat talking about the Chelsea game at the hour mark, doesn't seem to think a lot of the high line we play and Anges tactics

Imo it will all come down to a simple thing - will Ange change his style slightly and focus on improving us defensively (which is our biggest issue). If the answer is no then he will be sacked in the near future. If he is willing to adjust somewhat then maybe he can turn it around. Being stubborn and just saying to himself "my way will work eventually" will be what costs him his job.

he’s said countless times in a number of different ways that he won’t change. He even said it last week, the guy is not for turning.

honestly, Dear Daniel should be the next manager as its probably the only way he will get sacked! Having invested in players that could play a certain way and have certain attributes it would have to someone who values the same but shows a different tactical approach or flexibility (btw I'm not one who thinks ange is not flexible - we've played a variety of systems this year already but most seem to think he only has 1 way).

bt now we've tried younger coaches (Poch, AVB), older (Redknapp), from outside PL (Santini, Gross), etc, etc. What's clear is that chairman & board have no vision for this club. They have set no sporting goals & recruited against that (players, coaching staff, medical staff, e.g, physios, sports psychologists, etc.). I wouldn't be surprised to see DL sack Ange, Lange & Munn & replace them with Pleat (cos he's free & probably cheaper) and Southgate.

It's a moot discussion (I'm not dismissing your question) because of the above. We will only see continuity & improvement when even the cleaning staff at the club are clear about the organisations goals! When that is true, then the terraces and the supporters will follow suit. Till then, we will be spursy, brilliant 1 week, useless the next, hire shiny new manager only to destroy him, buy young players but never give them the chance to grow in a winning team, etc.

My response is a genuine answer to your question and I doubt there's many other fans who don't feel the same way about us since the CL final.

Don't you dare utter the S word lest you summon him.

Also, the constant 'no-one else could ever do better so why change' is nonsense. We've had managers during Enic's tenure that have done better. Sometimes with less.
And we've wanted every single one of them sacked. So not nonsense.

It's being increasingly said on here (thank fuck), why get rid, we'll only want rid of the next guy. This is the apathy this ownership has brought us to.

I actually don't think "defense" is our biggest issue.

If I were to prioritize things to fix:

1. Consistency in attack. We tend to have lots of possession, but we are really poor in the attacking end. If we can't hit on a counter, then our players seem lost for ideas. We don't move the ball around with intent, nor do we try to take players on, nor do we have players who will consistently put balls across or on target from outside the box. Yes, we are scoring goals - but not consistently enough to dominate teams from the front.

2. Transition defense - we get cut open on a regular basis, and its nothing to do with our central defenders, though they often take the blame. We end up caught out of position - and CMs and FBs are not there to cover runners leaving our central defenders exposed.

3. Corner/free kick defense - nobody has any confidence out there - we have been moderately successful, but I fear that is more luck than skill.

4. Passing. Seems rather simple, but we are not a very good passing team - which is important if we want to be in possession. We have difficulty playing out from the back, we have difficulty in transition, we have difficulty in the attacking third. Most of our players struggle to even properly weight a pass - often making soft passes when we need a crisp pass, or firing it in, when we need a bit of touch.

When it comes to actually defending - when we get bodies behind the ball, we are not bad - like most teams we can limit shots, block shots, and intercept passes. Maybe we could use a bit of work closing down on crosses - but, again, I think we have much higher priorities to work on.
Spot on post mate and I agree.

For an attacking, possession heavy team i often find our patterns of play incredibly limited especially in the final third. I do think that there is an underlying issue of player ability that stifles us at times but even if a player is technically limited with the ball at their feet it doesn't mean we can't make our passing faster and our movement better. You adapt to the tools you have. How often do we see everything slow down to walking pace when we get the ball up to the end of the pitch and the opposition is set? Its excruciating at times and pure crab football. The only difference is that its in the final third instead of the middle third like we have seen in the past. Its so clear that sometimes nobody has a clue what to do save pass it to the wings and fire in a cross then rinse and repeat if unsuccessful. We need to be more consistently dynamic. Now and then it happens but not regularly enough and only if the oppositions leave gaps, we regularly struggle to create our own gaps.

I would also add attacking corners to your list. Yes i am aware we scored from a corner yesterday but I feel 9 times out of 10 we completely waist them and we do get an awful lot of them. We should be converting far more of them.

Speak specifics. Tell me, why do you think this squad of his is not his and why this squad is only good enough for 5 wins, 5 losses after 11 games ?

Easy to say he wasnt backed...Fact is, Ange has never spoken anything to suggest he wasnt backed. Mourinho to Poch moan. Conte moans. Ange has never spoken or even hinted he wasnt happy with signings or players were signed against his will.

Lets not make up facts, without a ounce of evidence.
If you need that explaining to you, it's probably not worth explaining to you because it's been said plenty of times, by plenty of people.

I think people are being a lot more forgiving of Ange (rightly or wrongly) because he's still a slightly unknown quantity at this level.

If we'd appointed Roberto Martinez when we appointed Ange, and all the performances and results were the same, I don't think there is a fan out there who would want to keep the manager in place.

I'm not convinced Ange will last past Christmas. We're in touching distance of 'acceptable' placings in the league but anyone who points out we're 5 points off 4th also has to accept we're 5 points off 15th.

We still haven't played 4 of the top 5 this season and we got 1 point from our 3 games against teams in the top 8 this season. I can't see us picking up a great return from our next run of games, although it wouldn't surprise me if we put in a great performance against either Chelsea or Liverpool and that might buy him some more time.

Like most others, I do think Ange has been slightly hamstrung by the summer transfer business. I liked the signings but we needed two senior players on top. The defensive issues are all Ange's doing though.

Some bloke on the board was interviewed not too long ago and they said that Spurs’ planning was very much long term in every aspect.

I think they lose sight of the present and do not react quickly enough* or deviate from the long term plan to take advantage of situations. A real lack of agility. Always directionally correct, but always risk averse when an opportunity can be capitalised on. Complete glass ceiling for the manager and players and fans. All the evidence is there. Look how many former winning players and managers come here, fail and go elsewhere to continue their winning ways.

*other than sacking a manager if the balance sheet looks like it’s going to be in jeopardy…

**should add the bolded bit isn’t a quote, btw.
