Nobody knows what the deal is with the biggest complainers. There can be any number of reasons why they get upset with football or any other thing they follow. Emotion isn't something you can control. There's something about football that's very unique. Of all the things I follow I don't feel the same emotion as football and I'm not one of the complainers. It just upsets me when we lose so that's the challenge Ange or any other manager will have. You play a part in impacting the mood of the fans, all you can do is the best to make the fans happy and I do love that about Ange. I think with Jose and Conte it's purely about how do we win this game of football but there didn't really feel like a true connection between manager and fans. With Ange it's more about the identity and winning in style which the fans can relate too. Although it is pretty funny we cry out for years to play attacking football and then turn around and say "woah lets defend a bit Ange". It's like "to dare is to do" but lets not dare that much mate.

You know when he said the ‘biggest complainers’……….Thats the few that go overboard that I think perhaps he’s talking about.

Those few are very vocal, a bit OTT and persistent so personally I would veer towards separating that behaviour and his comments from the casual venting rather than take it as a post meaning everyone or taking it literally :D

Well no matter who specifically he's referring to, Id say that post is definitely OTT and a bit weird to be honest but there you go.

He's a "life coach", some kind of psychologist or some shit.
He understands the human mind on a much deeper level to us mere mortals, yes read books on it and likes to tell us all how insightful he is about it.

I agree, it does come across as a bit weird at times but I'm not a big fan of all that stuff, so that's probably on me (yes, me).

Football is all about emotion, the game would be nothing without it.

Expecting people to be more or less emotionaless about it is absurd!

Life is about emotion, we're not robots but yes, watching any sport without being able to let your emotions free is pretty pointless.
Obviously, there should be sensible limits but surely most of us have learned those as we grew up?

Even if he's only talking about a few people, it comes across as pretty condescending to me.

But he isn't expecting 'people' to be more or less emotionaless about it.

He mentioned the 'biggest complainers' those that make this place as much fun as a morgue with their negativity, to the point other posters like myself avoid this place after a defeat.

Disagree with his perspective but let's not make out he is saying stuff he isn't.

Meh, I hate the serial moaners as much as anyone but that post comes across as preachy as fuck, just with a self-help book instead of a bible.

Just call them miserable twats and be done with it, there's no point psycho-analysing it and being all hipster about it. 😉😁

Who really cares? Its a forum, emotions will run high after a game, especially after a loss with those circumstances.

And there's a way to make your point, not that in condesending manner (not you...OP)

And its not a big deal if you choose to avoid this place after a defeat, most others dont need to and can ignore this minority of 'biggest complainers"

The biggest complainers are those that are deluded to believe that happiness comes from external sources.
They wonder around life blaming everyone/everything else for the reason they‘re not bubbling with joy.
So come matchday, their self-value and sense of fulfilment is SO wrapped up in the weekly result, that they feel mugged if it isn’t a resounding win.

Headline news. Happiness is an inside job. It doesn’t come from external sources.
It’s self-created.

Ange and the team are NOT responsible for your sense of joy in life.
Thats your responsibility.
They put on a show….and you (yes you) get to CHOOSE how you want to respond to that show.

You always have a choice.
If you want to feel REALLY PISSED OFF, fine. But that’s your choice.
You get to create your own reality. Always.

I know you're talking about reactions to a match here, and that's all good. I agree, we need to relax about it all sometimes (but where's the fun in that eh?)

Ask yourself this. In terms of the human mind, what is internal? What is external? Can that really have any meaning? What if someone has an inner motivation (intrinsic motivation) to make money (external reward). Is that an inner or outer source of their happiness? If having money makes them happy, what then? The boundaries of internal and external break down with such examples.

In fact, once you accept the example it becomes clear we are relational beings, our selves defined by our relationships with others, the world, our past, and so on, and yes - even our relationship with spurs. We don't make sense unless you look at the person in context. So, no. Happiness is not an inside job. Neither is the path to happiness only in the mind, or how we think and perceive. Say that to someone on the receiving end of some random act of life's cruel fate and you'll get an honest reply about how insanely silly that sounds.

I think that's what people are picking up on here, sometimes life is cruel and happiness can be robbed of us. Sometimes there is no choice to that. Yes, therapy can help, ptsd is recoverable from but sometimes pain gives meaning to life and cannot be thought away.

I, for one, am still working through the 4-3 defeat to Newcastle. I mean. 3-0 up. They're down to ten men. It's half time. The next round of the cup is in the bag. And we go out. Everyone of us here has a million of these stories. That's what supporting spurs is all about. Our misery makes us happy. COYS.

Edit: Man City, not Newcastle. Sorry Hughy.

I thought of Astrix and the twelve tasks immediately when reading this. The scene with the hypnotist.

This took me way too long to realise you'd simply got the wrong team. I thought "what the fuck are you talking about", googled Newcastle 4-3 Tottenham, googled Tottenham 3-4 Newcastle, thought "what the fuck are you talking about" again, googled Tottenham Newcastle cup result history and then realised you meant Man City.

If this is me on a Monday morning my week is doomed.

I remember that day pretty clearly; watching with a couple of Uni mates (including a City fan) and being completely stunned. But we then had a blinder of a night anyway, no doubt fuelled by £1 pints!! I don't know where that puts me in the "Psychiatry 101" chat, but I think that was probably my first time as a footy fan deciding to sack off the result and get on with my day. Had a very similar experience with the 5-4 game against the gooners.

The thing I really like about Ange, is that when I do decide to watch the game I at least know there is going to be entertainment. There is something really refreshing about watching football as an entertainment source rather than a desperate quest to win. Conte pushed me over the edge with that one - and probably many others as well. I totally get that lots of people don't want/have the luxury to separate themselves in that way.
