Is game management more difficult with a young squad? He doesn't really have much in terms of experience to rely on. Maybe Davies could come on and steady the ship in defence , Bissouma maybe but you never know what you get with him. Other than that it's mostly unproven players who are not going to take charge any more so than those we had starting.

But that's a debate for another thread.....

Not yet certainly.
Oh you mean in the sense that you aren't sure if he'll change but that it wouldn't be worth him being sacked at this point? I guess that might be people's thinking in the sense that they don't think that time will change what he does but we can get by or do well enough to a level that sacking him would be pointless before the end of the season.

I'll be interested to see the next starting 11. Was he so annoyed he'll leave some out or will he say you lot have got to learn...same team.

Omg. We’ve sacked managers at will and it has t got us very far to date. Maybe patience will yield results instead. I think it’s clear to everyone both from the eye test and the data test that the team has improved significantly under Ange. It feels like we are close to returning to Poch era quality.

We've seen him sort the set piece issue out this season.
We've seen the fullbacks sit back and invert less recently making it less congested.
We've seen Johnson playing inside a lot more.
We've seen a bit more of a dedicated 6 Infront of the back four.
I’ve seen hardly any of that. In particular I refute the idea that Johnson is playing inside a lot more. The whole reason he got stick last season was the number of times he got into the box and missed his shot. he has played exactly the same approach to his season, as far as I can see, but has his shooting boots firmly on.

I disagree, he's getting played in in different positions because we've been more focused centrally.

Not even that I don’t think would sustain him, and why shouid it? Backed reasonably, and regressed

I might be wrong on this but I think we are 2 points up over the last 5 games compared to last year. Gave Newcastle a much better game, same for Asrenal, par for Brentford...beat Utd at old Trafford (rare) and Brighton second half capitulation. 2 points better than last season for those games...still in the carling cup and doing well in europa...doesn't feel great after throwing that lead...but it's a little far to say we are regressing. we were rubbish before he arrived....had a good points total while doing a squad overhaul last year...and on track for a better points total this year.

Agree with alot of what you say here but we're actually level on points from last year.

2 points up with the United win but we lose those points in the Leicster game if you swap them for one of the relegated teams - we won away at all 3 last year.

Even 1 point from our next 2 games would have us up though as we lost the corresponding fixtures (W.ham and Villa H) last year.

Looks like big part of our fragility is (some of our) players deep in their heart know they’re irreplaceable and the club is much more tolerant to their behavior/ errors compared to top4. This is heavily mixed with overall lack of ambition.

Ok we lost, what are the implications for the players?

Was Karius a bad keeper? No, just not good enough. Yet uncle Klopp acted quickly and ruthlessly threw him under the bus. Is Romero a bad defender. Etc etc

Probably because Bale was the 3rd best player in the world, and the best in the league

Conversation has moved on from this point, and nothing to do with Ange but my word what a season Bale had that year. Breathtaking.

Anyway: still fully big Ange in.

I’m also not convinced that Ange has a huge blind spot when it comes to in game management either. We’ve seen him make early decisive changes several times to turn games around.

Then how would you address all the other reasons for substitutions that I listed not to mention injuries. I think you missed the entire point of my original post.
yea, my bad. appologies for my sarcy response, of course i knew you wasnt suggesting no bench. I just dont get the whole 'no point in making subs, as it probably wont work' line. Maybe when we conceded the 1st goal, but definately when we conceded the second and it was all Brighton, we should have done something tactically to change the flow of the game imo.

Gonna be a long international break. Christ. Questioning the definition of a good cup run. Lmao.

Anyway, if we avoided a shitty 45 mins this conversation would be wildly different. The margins are not that fine yet, because we're not getting into big match territory. It's just about progressing in chunks of the season. If we're to avoid finishing mid table (below 6th), we have to start stringing wins together. There's some evidence that we can get there, not helped by flaky players getting overconfident on the back of a couple of good results.

Finishing midtable probably won't be tolerated. Possibly even by Ange himself. And then we're back to square one because the clubs culture seems impossible to change.
