Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou spoke to BBC MOTD after his side lost a two goal lead at half time, to find his team on the end of a 3-2 loss to Brighton:

"Fair to say that the second half was unacceptable and we paid a price for that.

"We probably should have put it to bed in the first half. What we did in that second half is unacceptable and we got what we deserved.

"Maybe we just thought we’d roll out there and play well again and that’s not how it works and we paid for it.

"We’ve conceded before but it is how you react and our reaction wasn’t what it should be. It’s a bad day for us and when it’s a bad day the responsibility falls at my feet."

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou, speaking to Sky Sports: "Disappointing. Frustrated and absolutely gutted with that. Worst defeat since I've been here. Unacceptable second half. Nowhere near where we should be. We got carried away with how were were going.

"We kind of accepted our fate and it is hard to understand as we've not done that while I've been here. We paid the price.

"The problem is we are travelling along too smoothly, football and life will trip you up if you get too far ahead of yourself."

On message to the players: "There is no message. It is a terrible loss for us - as bad as it gets. Only one way to fix it and that's my responsibility.

"We lost all our duels and if you're not competitive it is not going to work - we were not competitive.

"They all go international duty the majority of them. They will process it individually and I will process it when everyone gets back."

STOP BLAMING ANGE
Todays defeat had nothing to do with Ange imo it was a player issue not an Ange issue. The Brighton players just interviewed on TV just said that it wasn’t about tactics they just decided to really fight for it and they won it.
We thought the game was over and we were punished. That’s down to the complacency on the pitch not in the dugout. Brighton changed NOTHING tactically to win the game their attitude was better than ours 2nd half simple as that.
So you think Ange's system of play has no issues?

Against a much lower level of opposition. Moore didn’t really impact the game when he came on. That wouldn’t have been any different ten minutes or twenty minutes earlier. People need to realise that he’s not always going to be able to make a difference yet. It’s not fair to expect him to.

I don’t think we did. I don’t think the changes made really changes much aside from adding fresher legs. Our problem second half was more down to us not being as energetic as we were in the first half, Brighton were just quicker to the ball than us.

That really wasn’t the issue this afternoon.
I think you'll find the changes made would have a different affect at 1-2. Ange has been round long enough and should be picking a bench to affect the game when needed. You think Brighton hade a better bench? a more experienced coach?

Good response that, although I’m sure some will disagree.

I don't think he's a very good manager.

There...I've said it.
What do you mean exactly 'manager'?

If you are saying 'coach' then you are quite clearly wrong because you can see how good we can be and a poor coach can't do that.

Or do you mean man manager?

Because again, he's very good at having players follow him and buy into him.

But if you mean 'tactician' game management then maybe, we still have to give him time but he clearly needs to work on it with us.

I just want to get this right because when people make knee jerk posts or speak broadly others roll with it and suddenly Ange isn't a PL level coach, for example

The system, style of play, whatever you want to call it, relies on being on the top of our game every minute of every game. Which just isn’t realistic.
Which is why my dread for the last 8 or so months has been that his entire philosophy has a ceiling and the Premier League is above that ceiling. If we can't sustain his ideal game for 90 minutes week in week out then we have to have an alternative approach that we can fall back to, depending on the state of the game. Even if it's just making subs earlier he has to do something. Standing there with his hands in his pockets, shaking his head, as the game slips away is not the answer.

We were shite for whole 2nd half and he waited until 75th min to try make a sub which took another 3 minutes to actually happen.
This one is on him as much as our players.

He will have learned about the players from that 2nd half but does he have enough self awareness to learn from it himself
I'm thinking not.

Incredible confidence in the outcome of a hypothetical situation.

He is no different than other managers we have had, he is just more of an all out go for it manager, others have been just as stubborn but more defensive. We are not winning the league under Levy anyway, unless there is some kind of miracle.

We presently are going to be involved in some every entertaining and end to end games, some of which we are going to lose.

I agree. Anyway, we have tried it all with nearly every type of manager possible. The young and up and coming, the experienced, the ones who have won it all and the ones who have won nothing, English, French, Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese, Argentinian and Australian. Managers from within the Premier League and from outside it.

It feels like hopeful thinking to expect much more from another coach than we are getting from Ange now.

For decades we have had loads of games where we are the gift that keeps giving. It is nothing new to see us go off the rails. I agree it’s irritating but it’s nothing new.
This is a bit different in the sense that we are pretty much one pass away from disaster with this high line.

We are making good players look like world beaters.

You can’t panic and make changes as soon as the second half has kicked off. Come on.

Too much over reaction, last week the manager is wonderful this week he’s crap!
We all say we would have done different but who knows if the game ends up differently?
For instance I would have subbed Bentancur at half time. I thought Romero was sloppy. Etc etc
I have no doubt he was furious and if we get in this position again he will do it differently but let’s not all start the ‘sack the manager’ again. Patience is required

Does he ever hold himself accountable ?
Pre game the interviewer asked him a question, I forgot exactly what it was, but he dismissed it & said he WANTS an open game 🤦🏼‍♀️

Found it, he got his wish …
Listen to the first question & answer 🤦🏼‍♀️
