He's only really been given these youngsters to work with by the board so great to see him blooding them in an important(ish) game.

and also this is because we have a clear set way of playing and a longish term project so the platform is there to blood the youngsters whereas with Jose and Conte everything was short term and a mess which isn’t a good environment for young players to develop.

It’s also so good for our young team’s development that we are in the EL and not CL this season, in a way it’s a blessing in disguise as Ange can rotate a lot of the team and still stand a good chance of getting a positive result which means lots of minutes spread out across the young squad to keep most players happy and match fit and sharp and to help them improve and develop.

If we were in the CL we’d have to play an almost full strength side twice each week which would knacker the squad out and reduce the development speed of the younger players.

We're winning games, and that's great. But I don't think personnel is the issue. Regardless of who plays, we're still too profligate in front of goal for such an attacking approach, and we're still wide open at the back. We're obviously playing with purpose, and the midfield is looking good, but I think we're riding our luck quite a bit as well. Its ok, but its not great yet.

I agree with giving all those young lads minutes but we started with too many, Lankshear or Moore, not both and either Gray or Bergvall. The ones not starting to come on later. The issue is I can't really remember away cup game (either domestic or european) when we won comfortable without conceding any chances. If we look at history, the Coventry game wasn't really that extrordinary but rather what we should expect. The only game that comes to my head where we showed how strong we are was against Fulham away in FA Cup when Poch was still here. We won 3:0. Away cup games against weaker teams are always, always like that. They raise their game, we change a lot of players. Energy levels are different than league games. I never expected to see display similar to ManUtd game. I wanted to see some good football and, most important, 3 points. And that's what happend. We played good game, created lot of chances, they also did create a few but considering circumstances that was actually good game from Tottenham.

It's a high risk thing to do. A defeat, or really poor performance can set a young group of players back a few months and put doubts in the managers mind about their ability and whether he can trust them.

The flip side is that if you do it, and it pays off with a win and good performances, those players are then further embedded into the first team and gain in confidence.

So he gambled, and won. The youngsters now have a win away from home in Europe on a dodgy pitch in the rain against a physical and decent Hungarian champions under their belt. We won't see that group all start together in the PL just yet, but the day when it happens has got a bit nearer.

I never understand the "if they had scored it would have been far harder for us" argument in looking back at a game in which the other team didn't in fact score from whatever chance it was.

We missed chances last night and hit the post and the bar, but never seem to get credit for our good play that didn't result in a goal, only getting lumped on for the opportunities we gave up to the oppo (that also were not scored).

Figured there would be a few of the naysayers out there shaking their head at Ange for blooding ‘too many kids’, and would have been moaning with pleasure justifying their opinion afterwards.
But we win, and ya still annoyed.
