It'll be interesting to see how/if Arsenal change when they get Rice/Odegaard back (as is their excuse). I don't think you can go from those possession stats of recent weeks to controlling games with ease. It's why talk of us needing to change seems off because abandoning their style was what Ten Hag did at United and he's spent two years chasing his tail.

There's understandable skepticism but you have to play through these issues - no good manager has been uncertain in their approach, and no good manager's ideas are inconsistent. That might not always work: latter day Mourinho's biggest failing has been his blinkeredness. But if you think the underlying ideas are good, and I think the underlying ideas are good, you have to ride the wave. It gets a lot of criticism when it goes wrong but all three of our goals against Brentford came from that high line, as did the first yesterday - there's a method to this.

Small win for Ange, matt law reporting we won't be doing a post season tour like we did this season

It was said that one reason why the Australia game was viable was our lack of European games last season. Makes sense that we won't this season with much heavier game load, not to mention that the final is May 21st.

And games like last night will only increase the players belief in the system.

It doesn't matter that some fans get scared and want to change to a more defensive set up, if the manager and the players have faith in how they play, it'll work.

I am 150 pages into Ange's style of football by the wonderful Vince Rugari and cannot recommend it enough to fellow spurs fans. It is time to get excited. We have a special manager at our club.
I got that for my birthday and need to get started with it.

One of the interesting things from last night was to see our players taking much more personal responsibility.

Our forwards in particular have been lacking a bit of belief and so happy to pass the ball on rather than take a shot. Sarr's instinctive hit and Johnson choosing to shoot, rather than pass back to Solanke are good steps forward in this regard.

Heard about this from The View from the Lane podcast, definitely need to pick up a copy

I was reflecting on the game last night and also the Coventry game. I think these are the experiences we needed last year to grow and I think we'll be better for them.

Good teams over come challenges like this and move forwards. Last year we didn't have enough challenge early on and I think the team thought they'd made it until the Chelsea game.

I think Ange will secretly be really happy with the challenge they faced and how they dealt with it. Qarabag aren't the best but you still had to work hard to get through it.

Thought he got the starting 11 and subsequent subs bang on yesterday. The style of play still makes me very nervous in defence but that's not going to change any time soon so I'll have to live with it.

Ya. I’m back here again to seek all the people who were complaining about Ange - probably for the next few matches im gonna be lurking here as if I am A&C targeting people to hit with a stick.

I don’t care about how tough the opponent is. Points are points. This is the type of momentum you build and can’t stop once caught.

One word for this result: Mate.
Not meant as a personal attack or poke, but is this not half the problem with the fan base?

We seem to be masters of our own downfall with regards to our constant Yo-Yo'ing of criticism/praise - win and we're too high. Lose and we're too low.

When it comes to managers/players, posters always seem so quick in wanting to express a "told you so" opinion, which can often make this place seem like a constant hokey-kokey. Especially after a minuscule amount of time. Some of the Solanke/Johnson criticism was way over-board. Equally as bad will be the over-hyping when Solanke inevitably starts scoring, until he has a dry-spell, quel: rinse and repeat.

Mourinho's best PL season was spoilt by his habit to revert to an ultra defensive tactic.

They started the 17/18 season strongly with lots of attacks and goals/more possession.

But then they played Klopp's Liverpool and sat back. Got a 0-0 draw.

Following week, lost 2-1 to Huddersfield as they struggled to get back to attacking football. It disrupted their momentum.

Following week. They beat us 1-0 at OT by reverting to defensive football and got a goal due to a defensive mix up for us. Classic Jose win.

Following week after that, lost 1-0 to Conte's Chelsea who looked to counter them as United couldn't play with fluidty again.

The theme continued later in the season (losing 1-0 to teams like West Brom, Newcastle and Brighton after big wins against big teams) and cost them really pushing City.

You can't just halt the breaks on your attacking style and believe it'll return with a click of the button.

5:59 asked about Ten Haag being under pressure going into this match and if it affects Ange's game plan

Ange: "I don't [think about it] mate. There's always some manager under pressure, I think. It must be a sort of, um, what do you call one of those spinning boards with all their faces on it and whomever it lands on, he's the one who cops it for a week or two. But I think Erik's in a real tough job. He's done really well, you know. He keeps mentioning he's won two trophies, and he has mate, you know so I don't think that's insignificant.

Everyone keeps telling me that's all I have to do, but obviously it's not all you have to do. Because when you do that, there's more; there's always more."

Our performances against Newcastle and Arsenal seem better now, considering how City have played against the same opposition.

I watched the press conference earlier and I can see why he gets so grumpy. It’s just questions for questions sake a lot of the time with a desperate hope for any kind of quote.

They should be shortened drastically.

We where unlucky against Newcastle and should have won.

Arsenal did 10 men defending in their penalty area and score from a break and corner routine. Sadly we don’t have the front line to break down elite low block sides.

Our system looks ok this season. We will do reasonably well. Its our front line not being of the right quality and balance that will limit us.
