Watching the whole game what impressed me the most was the variety in our game. Personally I think we have often looked predictable with an obsession with shape. Against Man U there was a fluidity as players interchanged. We used long balls, possession sequences, driving runs and worked more in twos and threes. I’m not a lover of just stringing players out across the pitch - with one up front hugging the left touchline and one the right.
Using three ‘footballers’ in midfield allows us more fluidity in our game. Now this was against a side who were trying to outplay us and not just park the bus, where you could argue defensive midfielders would be needed. Against teams who sit back there really is no need to play other than attacking players and let our quality centre-backs do the work.

Anyway a great result with a real boost to confidence for all especially the likes of Johnson and Solanke whose goals we will need. COYS!

We've slapped United 3 times at OT now (5 in the last 12 years)

Which for anyone growing up in the 90s-00s was unthinkable and a dream.

But today was the best one for me because of the manner of the performance.

I'll also remember the 6-1 but that was such an odd game (covid) and United have their excuses in as they were down to 10 at 1-1 and just crumbled.

The 3-0 with Lucas scoring was a bit of a suck punch as United missed some ridiculous chances that day.

Today, was thoroughly deserved and we'd likely have won 2 or 3 nil 11v11 and should have been at least 2 up before the red.

The football was devastating and the energy off the ball incredible.

No excuses or buts for them today.

1-4 in October 1972 with Martin Peters scoring all four was one of all time favourite games.

I was 16 then. Scary place but I remember so much of it as if it was yesterday. £3.50 on the football special from Euston. Must have had seven carriages of United fans and our one with about 60 fans on board.

Managed to watch the game last night.

Our press more than anything stood out. It’s so intense, united couldn’t settle at all and with our centre backs when united did break through we cleared it up.

a very very good team performance, we outnumbered them in key areas and the passing was excellent.

Ange is an absolute don. He really is special. We are doing this playing our brand of football without compromise.

Well played. Up for it from the first whistle. Man u were absolute dog shit though. We won't get an easier game than that all season. Our midfielders constantly had acres of space. Thought I was watching spurs play a non league team 😂

How the fuck did MotD make Manure look half decent?

I didnt see the game live so was looking forward to the highlights of what sounded like a thoroughly dominant display however going off these highlights you'd think that Utd were unlucky. Is it normal to show a half chance from Rashford that was actually offside as opposed to the near miss from Mikey Moore?

For what its worth, id be fuming if that red card was given against us and also the penalty appeal that id not heard of until the MOTD highlights, well lets just say we've seen them given and especially at OT so think we got the rub of the green on both those decisions.

I personally disagree we got the rub of the green, the sending off for me was justified, his foot was off the ground and studs into the leg. I don't care he slipped he could have pulled his leg away but didn't, we were lucky it wasn't a little higher in to Madders knee. As for the penalty (if we are talking about the Romero handball) then that isn't a penalty, it deflects off his stomach on to his arm which is in a natural position. In no way did he move his arm towards the ball, I wouldn't have complained if either was the other way around put it that way.

We've now played 3 games this season against Everton, Brentford and United where people have said this.

At some point we need to start giving major credit to our performances, and not just saying we played against shit teams.

This was a game with 2 teams at a similar level, but we have a manager who's been in a season less than Ten Haag & we're missing our best player & we absolutely battered them.

When we drew with them in April 2022 before Ange came in this was our side:
  • Fraser Forster
  • Clément Lenglet
  • Cristian Romero
  • Eric Dier
  • Pedro Porro
  • Ivan Perišić
  • Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg
  • Oliver Skipp
  • SON Heung-min
  • Richarlison
  • Harry Kane

There are only 5 players still in the first team squad. 3 of which are starters. We've sold 6 of them.

You look at Manchester United's side from that game:
  • David De Gea
  • Victor Lindelöf
  • Luke Shaw
  • Diogo Dalot
  • Aaron Wan-Bissaka
  • Bruno Fernandes
  • Casemiro
  • Christian Eriksen
  • Antony
  • Marcus Rashford
  • Jadon Sancho
3 players are sold. All the rest are still in the squad, maybe only 3/4 are starters. But players like: Antony, Eriksen, Casemiro - Ten Haag actually signed and they now need to be replaced or sold.

In essentially 1 full season Ange & the club's recruitment have completely changed the squad in terms of personnel & playing style. It's a younger squad, with the right attributes, not on high wages.

It really shows the gulf between the 2 clubs in terms of:
  • How we recruit players
  • How our manager is able to implement a style
  • How we have seemingly managed to align the recruitment strategy with the profile of manager. Sarr, Udogie, Porro, Kulu, Romero, even Spence were bought in before Ange but they still have been an asset to him.
I think comparing us to United is a good opportunity to acknowledge how we are run and what we are trying to do makes sense. It won't definitely lead to success but I think it as a minimum shows there is a coherent strategy at this club at the moment & that is a really good thing.

He slipped realised he wasn't getting the ball and tried to do him. on the harsh end of a red card but the intent was there. IF you're talking about the Romero one, that would never be given as a penalty this year.

I'm on holiday and with the help of the football gods I've watched lots and lots of games this weekend on my iPad, sitting in the shade, while my wife frazzled on the sunbed. Out of all the football I saw I can honestly say that Tottenham Hotspur played the most spectacular and eye-catching out of all the teams I saw. It's really not the beer goggles talking. We could be on the verge of something here lads and ladies- if we continue to get the rub of the green obviously. COYS!!

Romero. But the ball hits his side and then maybe the arm, not the arm directly.
It hit his arm 100%. It was just down by his side and he couldn't do anything about it. Natural position and so in this season not a penalty.

I don't know if anyone noticed but Christian Eriksen came on to not one single player he played with at Spurs, not even on the bench. Son is the only one left so that is one hell of a change around in four years.

Ben Davies wasn't in the match day squad but he is still here.
