For starters he'll be on a lot more money than Danny Rose and I don't see Rose getting dropped any time soon. You can't have a player sat on the bench on significantly higher wages than the one he can't get past. It would lead to a major round of pay increases (e.g. Kyle Walker would deserve the same money as Rose). It would cause a whole load of disruption for a player we don't actually need.

Why would he have to be on the same wages as he is at United? He's barely played and his stock has fallen, of course a lot would be up to him wanting to have a new start with a reduced wage.

I think you've answered your own question.

He's said to be on 70k, That's not higher than our other established players will get these days.

Maybe but he would expect to command that as soon as he came into the squad. Imo if he was to come here he should expect a drop in pay but with the possibility of a new contract and higher wage once he establishes himself into the team. Would he be willing to do that? No idea.

That's not really how football and wages work though is it? Player seldom lose money. Sometimes previous club cover part of their wages, but taking a cut is rare. It happens (when desperate to move and head set for certain club). But I'm not sure Luke Shaw is in that situation. He's still a highly regarded England international, we'll not be the only club interested, he has the market value to stay on his current wages (maybe even raise it if another club want him bad enough).

Appreciate he's had a big injury but I'd say he's behind Rose and Bertrand in the England pecking order. He's not made the grade at UTD and aside a good season at Southampton what's he done? I'd rate him similar to Zaha when he was leaving UTD. Didn't make the grade and forced to eat a big slice of humble. I doubt anyone would take him for 70k a week, UTD will probably have to subsidise his wages if they want him out. Best move for him would be a loan somewhere for 6 months to pick up some form. If I were Palace or Sunderland I would be rattling Jose to let him out for 3 months.

I don't think he fits the template at all for the type of player we would go after. I'd much sooner we had a go at someone like Sessegnon who has loads of potential, no injury issues I'm aware of, not already on high wages and capable of becoming a full international at some point. Wasn't part of Shaw's problem that he repeatedly failed to follow instructions?

Not sure where you got that figure from but can remember the big debate when Utd signed him from under the noses of Chelsea where Mourinho came out moaning that you can't pay a 19 year old £150k a week. Basically he was telling the world that that's what Utd were paying him.

Edit £130k a week. Story here:

Not like Mourinho to talk bollocks.

Agreed but if you remember at the time Shaw was the supposed best left back since roberto Carlos and had the pick of all the top clubs. Liverpool were throwing 100's of thousands at his soton team mates whilst Utd were out of the champions league. I think it's fair to assume that he's on at least £100k a week but in all likelihood closer to £130k which probably sums up everything that has gone wrong with modern day football.

Yup, fair comments. I saw a figure of 70k but may have been nonsense. It's going to be high anyway.
