Think he'd be an excellent purchase - some real competition for Lennon, but also versatile enough to be a back-up option for Ade.

Do we really want to break our transfer recored and pay 18m+ for somebody who's going to provide competition for Lennon and be a backup for Adebayor? For that money we could try and get Soldado.

I'd say £9-12m would be a fair price. He'd be a Wiltord/Gervinho type signing.

I think if he were to be bought (baring in mind this is just the Mirror) he would be in addition to Adebayor or another top striker

Also while the senitiment of him being competition to Lennon is true of sorts it would probably lead to more of a shift in formation (for example using Adebayor as our main striker)

.............Bale ...... Adebayor.........Remy

.................,,Modric(VdV)
.............Sandro(Modric) Parker

Seems like he would be a decent signing as he could give us options and felxibilty , but it would have to be in addition to not instead of signing a top striker. Its probably more feasable than us signing Hazard.

If we signed Remy, Adebayor, Vertonghen and a new keeper as well as keeping the likes of Modric, Bale and VdV, you couldn't really argue that we had added significant quality in areas we most need it (whether we could or would actually do this is another matter all together)

Ideally yes, but they signed him for 12m, so theres no chance of us getting him for any less that that. They also rejected 18m from s on deadline day, although that would probably be because they wouldn't have been able to get a replacement in in time, but i'd say we'd probably be looking at a similar price now. Which is far too much Imo for 'competition' up front.

Agree. I think we actually need all 3 of Ade, Leandro and Remy (with Saha not being extended and Defoe moved on).

------------Ade
Bale------Rafa------Remy
-----Modric---Sandro

is how I'd play it.

Guess the argument we'd have to make then is that Remy would be replacing all of Pav, Pienaar, Bentley and Gio (i.e by being a 2nd RW and a 3rd #9).

Spot on Dan. In fact, I see him over the next couple of seasons becoming a main front man. Also fits in well in a more advanced 4-2-3-1 system behind Ade as well.

Is this guy worth it then? We seem to have been chasing him for a while with high figures always being mentioned. I've seen a few clips of him but I've never seen him in a full match if I'm honest.

He comes across as a French version of Agbonlahor. Unfortunately for us, we look ready to pay £20m or so

I was about to ask the same. I've not heard anything about this guy (only ever heard of him on here)

It really depends on how much money we've got to spend, and who else we sign

If the whole transfer budget is £20m, then yeah you'd have to question whether the money could be better spent

But if we finish in the Champions League and have £50 odd million to spend, plus anything from player sales (possibly Modric for £40m), then I'd be quite happy to bring in 4 or 5 players around the £18m mark

I guess we'll have to wait and see

I think irrespective of his form for Marseille, he is a player that would improve and step up for us. He is a good fit

where would he play? off the wing on a 3 pronged attack? Or the target man?

According to reports, he prefers to play as the lone striker. If that's how we used him, I would be concerned as to who is going to get the goals :s

i'd see him playing wide right of the 3 in a 4-2-3-1, but eventually I do see him playing as the main striker, and the boy has PACE...

bit like playing Ade as main striker - not enough goals relying on others to do their bit and more
