Liverpool’s progress over five years has taken time. When Jurgen Klopp arrived at Anfield to replace Brendan Rodgers, Liverpool were not playing well.

This article is just the usual stock media rubbish pumping out the same old stuff. Praising Liverpool and having a go at Spurs. All success at Spurs was down to Pochettino and Daniel Levy has just been a malign and negative influence. Pochettino did a great job but at the end made serious errors, such as saying he would leave if we won the Champions League. Levy has presided over the rise of Spurs and has overseen the new stadium and training ground. Mistakes we made in not recruiting but also remember significant investments were made last summer in players Pochettino wanted. They have not yet delivered. Had Pochettino wanted Bruno Fernandes we would have got him but he wanted other targets.

The recruiting was a pretty serious lapse, which is now obviously having repercussions. DL obviously bears some responsibility but then so does Poch who seems to have been very restrictive in terms of targets. There is no single answer to how we got here and what needs to be done to address it but it will take time. I do admire what Liverpool have done though.

I dont think restrictive targets is a bad thing though. Not only do you not just waste money eg Janssen but you also know what you need for your style. Buying players that do not fit in with what you want just wastes time and doesnt really help in success particularly if Poch will be judged against that

I think Liverpool had restrictive targets for example - Van Dijk they waited for and got, they stumped the cash. Same with their keeper.

It is not rocket science Liverpool are now light years ahead of us.

They put their money where their mouth is and had a basic plan. They quickly identified a style / formation then got the specific players to fit the mould.

Tottenham on the over hand built a fab stadium, effort rightly concentrated there. However there was an opportunity to back Poch by moving players on and getting targets the manager required.

Liverpool where just behind us in terms of league finishes over the last 5-10 seasons, they caught us up fairly quickly, then sprinted past us. How this happened? they sold and loaned fringe players their number one player to generated money on top of their own wealth while we seem to stand still.

Player contract issues was the big elephant in the room you sensed the money being spend on the infrastructure and certain players getting new deals was a time bomb other players clearly downed tooled.

We've allowed Eriksen to hold the club to ransom with lack lustre performances body language that sets a down beat. One of our bright talents Tanganga has yet signed a contract, all of this going on behind the scenes our formed deteriorate alarmingly which lead to us sacking our manager who was calling for a rebuild so very clear to see.

It's a wake up call to how quickly football moves on- Liverpool deserve all the credit in the world they kept to the plan and are reaping the benefits.

Up to Levy now imo

In fairness it's an accurate account of our mediocre rise, under investment, unsustainable level of play, and decline.

Truth hurts.

We are on different paths. It’s simple as that. Liverpool have been able to spend. We are restricted. It’s all cyclical though.

True about Van Dijk but in our situation, maybe there is more of a necessity for a plan b.

The main difference that is perhaps nearly the only one is the reaction to either manager to being a runner up in the CL. They reacted better than we did to missing out, whereas our mentality just fell to pieces.

I think Klopp's experience is the difference, and maybe something Poch will learn from

We've been 'rebuilding' for the 45 years I've supported Spurs for!
Totally agree - Stadium and training facilities are great but it's been 20 years of jam tomorrow under ENIC. Unfortunately, tomorrow never comes.

Absolutely sick of the media and Liverpool love in. They are a counter attacking team that cant break teams down. None of their midfield woild get near the city team.

Light years ahead of us...

Leave off. Only a short time ago we were ahead of them. Only a slightly longer time ago, Leicester were ahead of them. Things can change very quickly in football. This is a freak period. Liverpool are fantastically drilled but I feel it’s a style that will get worked out eventually in this league.

I do not see them going on to dominate English football for the next decade for example. The league is currently going through a downturn in overall quality too, which is helping their run. They are a quality side no doubt but I suspect the Wengers best goon side, at least two of Fergie sides and Jose’s first Chelsea side were all better.

They're comfortably the best team in Europe if not the world.
It's a shocking alternative timeline we now live but that's the reality.
No point trying to downplay them by saying they can't break down teams or implying a weak midfield.
