When Kane got injured, I had mentioned to a few friends that I thought that he may have played his last game for us. If we are not playing in Europe at all next season (which is looking very likely), could anyone really blame him if he headed elsewhere this summer? I feel it may take something of that magnitude to really turn up the heat on ENIC!!

Property building takes so much time planning permission etc etc. why not just follow the Dortmund example of making money sign a player like Ousmane Dembele in 16/17 season for £13.5 million and then in 17/18 season sell him to Barcelona for £112.5 million , that's what I call a nice quick profit.
To do that you have to know your onions in the transfermarket and be prepared to take risks. Neither applies to Levy... :(

For clubs in those countries it is a question of a maximum of an extra 5 million pounds or so. I know the transfer rates in Poland. When Genoa bought Piatek they paid 5 million euros. Come on.

Extra 5 million pounds is huge factor for those clubs, anyway whatever the selling club is, financial power of purchasing club comes into equation.

But that's exactly my point. To a club like us it's peanuts, so saying that prices would somehow skyrocket for English clubs is simply not true. It's just that a million pounds is a different amount to different clubs. Find the ones with good players that would see 5-10 million as life changing.

Different prices when English teams enter the market.

not really - Barkley was missed at 8 mill and Grealish about the same. Don't for one minute buy the spin out of the club that the deal for JG was held up at their end. Everyone from Grealish to Villa fans were ready for it - Levy tried to kick them while they were down and we missed out.

It is interesting that a org I work for (run by a truly self made billionaire) has "win-win" at the core of their business values. Levy sees it as win-lose and that doesn't help as can be seen from our dealings.

And why are we likely to miss out on CL, Levy? Negligent lack of investment in the squad when WERE in the CL, for fuck's sake. This summer we'll hear that we had targets lined up but goalposts have shifted and the market is difficult, and we'll be scrabbling around desperately for loans.

...my personal favourite is "the selling club kept changing the price"

Yes I suppose there will be isolated cases where a deal for a fair price can be struck but often English player's carry a premium especially amongst other English teams.
Yes you are right regarding levy and his business methods which sometimes is good and other times just doesn't work.
I fear prices will go up in the summer when clubs get a whiff of our desperation late on in the window.

Part of me wants to punch him square in the face for not buying when we had the chance.

the other part of me thinks. Of course he is going to say this. He wants the club to come across this way so selling clubs don’t try to screw us into the ground with ridiculous transfer fees.

But mostly I just want to punch him in the face for ballsing this up so badly.

Preditable and a borefest this thread. We are going through a bad time at the moment but which club even who have continually spent in transfer windows havent? Even when we do spend there are some people who's negative agenda will go on and on.
Massive YAWN!!!!!

He said this at a Trust meeting recent, but he should reflect on the fact that we're probably going to miss out on CL because he didn't invest in the squad at the right time for two TW's.

You don't get better by standing still.

i dont understand why the trust didnt grill him more on this fact.

I wish he would fack off far away from the club. I really appreciate the stadium and all but to not fully get behind pochettino after what he accomplished with a midtable club is criminal

If it was not the "out of Europe excuse " it would be" we need to finance the new build houses " or " the coronavirus had a massive financial impact " or more likely " I will not spend above net profit so suck it and see "

Sensible transfer spending is not so much how much you spend but how wisely I guess.
